What Mr. Weinstein is accused of was never tolerable, greeting a woman arriving for a business meeting while wearing nothing but an open bathrobe. His accusers say he made it clear that if they refuse, he would damage their careers. Police are investigating. Mr. Weinstein has made an apology to his accusers for his actions. However, he denies engaging in rape.

It gets very difficult for very powerful characters in Hollywood to cover up their misdeeds. For more than twenty years, he has been trailed by rumors of sexual harassment and assault. His behavior has been known to many in Hollywood and beyond, but previous attempts to expose him have fallen short of the demands of journalistic evidence.

Harvey Weinstein has had many sexual harassment reports made against them in the past. According to the press release made by The New Yorker included many different forms of sexual assault including rape. Some of the stories were fairly veiled for discretions sake, while others detailed his requests to watch him bathe and for these young actress’ perform sexual favors for him. His actions were “a well known secret” of the Hollywood elite. Now his victims are standing up to say “Me Too”. Mr. Weinstein has been let go from the company he cofounded in light of the allegations.

Over the past two decades there have been numerous corporate and accounting ethical scandals. In 2002, Adelphia Communications was among the most publicized ethical misconduct disasters. The breakdown of corporate integrity collectively cost Adelphia shareholders billions of dollars in fraudulent financial acts, marred customer/client trust, and saw senior management imprisoned (Markon & Frank, 2002). Operating a business requires the owners to follow ethical guidelines that promote trust and loyalty between themselves and all contributors. Businesses on a global scale normally apply one or more ethical theories to help establish a standard morally right and acceptable on a universal scale. This paper will express my opinion of how the Adelphia Communications’ executives violated the trust of the company’s shareholders and the trust of that of the larger public based upon the deontological ethic theory. It will also look at how Kant’s Categorical Imperative (CI) would apply to two key events of scandal. Let’s begin with a brief history Adelphia Communication.
