Introduction.
Speech, language and communication play a vital role in our lives. Without being able to talk to, and understand other people we can’t do things alike: Almost everything we do involves speech, language and or communication
Children develop communication skills from birth. They rely on speech, language and communication to be able to learn at school and play with their friends. They need these skills to reach their full potential. Children begin to understand words before they can say them. They then learn how to say these words and how to put them together to make sentences. Some develop quickly,

These words and concepts are vital for making sense of new information or ideas that they are finding out about. Children and young people’s interactions at school with adults and their peers are crucial in supporting their learning.
Research has shown that in areas of social disadvantage, at least 50% of children have delayed language. (Locke, A., Ginsborg, J., and Peers, I. 2002) however, it’s important to note that children and young people from all areas and backgrounds can have delayed language.
Clinical Pragmatics reflects an emerging awareness that some communication difficulties could not be attributed to ‘purely’ linguistic problems. For a long time before that, practicing speech and language therapists had worked with children and adults whose primary difficulties seemed to lie with the understanding and/or production of connected discourse. (‘Relevance Theory and Communication Disorders’ Eeva Leinonen and Nuala Ryder, 2008.)
Communication is the basis of our lives and we would in this day and age, be handicapped without it. Everyday we are communicating with each other in some way or another, be it by using words, actions or even expressions in conveying a message. Communication refers to the exchange of thoughts and ideas with the intention of conveying information. The purpose of communication is to convey one's beliefs, ideas, thoughts, or needs with clarity so as to reach a consensus or a mutually acceptable
It is important to build positive relationships with children, young people and adults not just within a learning environment but within any social setting, as this forms strong interactive social skills throughout their lives. Children will build from the skills we demonstrate to them because as adults we are their role models. You should always take into account how you approach someone and respond to them as this will determine how they respond to you. Everyone must be given opportunities to establish trust and to feel at ease.
Some children may not be able to understand the words being spoken to them and/or the grammatical rules of sentence construction. Therefore, when their teacher tells the class what they need to do, or explains a new idea or concept,9 they may struggle to understand what is being said. Having inappropriate vocabulary is
Explain how positive changes to the communication environment can support communication development for children and young people with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.
Speech, language and communication difficulties can have a profound and lasting effect on children’s lives and development. These can affect their ability to communicate and interact with others. The impact of these difficulties will vary depending on the severity of the problems, the support they receive, the demands of the child’s environment
According to researcher, it is important to create a healthy and respectful learning environment because young children experience their world an environment of relationships and these relationships affect virtually all aspects of their development, intellectual social, emotional, physical, behavioral and moral.
Communication is passing information from one place to another, which is something people do every day in different ways. People communicate in order to be able to express themselves and to connect to those around them. They communicate at home with family and friends and fellow staff members at work. There is many different ways of communicating such as non-verbally, verbally and whether it is done formally or informally.
Children are always developing their language by listening to others and going to school. Language is used everyday to express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas so, it is very important skill to have. The first five years are very crucial to language development. Nerve cells are developed as well as connections between nerve cells that helped to go express and receive language which makes stimulation important. Without simulation the child’s language develops slower and has poor communication skills. In the first stage, which starts at birth and ends at around 18 months, the brain attempts to mimic sounds the baby hears. By the time the child is six months old, the child can respond to their name, respond human voices without visual cues,
With the exception of severe disabilities or social problems, all humans acquire language as a core of basic property of their humanity called ‘vernacular’ which is used in everyday life Gee & Hayes (2011, p. 8). I believe that this is why early intervention is so important; not to label a child; but to better support them for further education. Most humans can learn
With regard to Types and causes of communication disorders, Lindsay, Dockrell, Law and Peacey (2010) indicate that each child may experience different symptoms. Children with communication disorders may may have a few vocabulary for their age or may not speak at all. Some of them have difficulty understanding simple directions or are unable to name objects. Most children with communication disorders are able to speak by the time they enter school, however, they continue to have problems with communication. School-aged children often have problems understanding and formulating words. when they become older they may have more difficulty with understanding or expressing abstract ideas. The symptoms of communication disorders may be similar to
Language delay is often one of the first symptoms that parents notice in children with ASD. Research indicates that children who experience language problems before age 3 have a high probability of developing ASD and for those whose language deficiencies continue past age 5, they will often experience deficits in attention and social
we all have different style of communication and it is important in health social care I obtain information about how individuals communicate. effective
Effective communication through verbal and nonverbal messages is an important skill to have in life. This skill requires both the speaker and the listener to actively participate in the 2-way sending process. Effective communication is important because it is the only way I can share my ideas with others, and how I can learn or get information from friends, family, teachers, and even strangers. To be able to communicate with others and to get the intended messages across successfully will lead to stronger relationships and better productivity. I communicate with people every single day and there is always a chance that misunderstandings can occur. By eliminating noise in the environment, and presenting my message clearly with my words and image, will minimize barriers and establish communication that is not only efficient, but effective as well.
Language is a beautiful and mysterious thing that is essential to living a satisfying life. The number of languages spoken throughout the world is astounding, let alone each individual dialect within those languages. There are differing opinions as to how language is acquired; whether it is inborn, learned, or a mixture of both. No matter what stance an individual may take, it cannot be denied that language is the pure essence of human life. The ability to communicate is essential for not only everyday life, but for an individual’s future success. My desire to pursue this profession was sparked when I was 17, and has not once faltered. The ability to communicate is often taken for granted by many, and when someone loses that ability or has trouble with communicating, that person’s quality of life decreases greatly. As humans, we have the innate desire to communicate with each other. I want to enrich the lives of others by enabling them to communicate with those around them, therefore connecting them with the rest of the world. Communication is the basis of human life, and I want to help all individuals have the ability to express themselves.
Communication is the key to many facets of our lives. Communication allows businesses to function properly and allows people to accomplish tasks. People who lack the ability to communicate are confined to a world void of interaction, which limits their capacity to achieve as it is well known, “together we can accomplish more. Communication encompasses more than just talking. It includes written words, verbal conversations, and even body language. Everything one does, says or feels is a part of their true self. Therefore, it is crucial to know how to communicate correctly to portray one’s proper self and not be misunderstood.
Before we can discuss communication disorders, we must understand what communication is. Communication is what we use every day to exchange thoughts, messages or information to connect people and places. (Schindler, Ruoppolo & Barillari, 2010) If a disorder affects communication, that means there would be difficulty in connecting to the people and things around us. It could begin from a simple sound substitution to the inability to understand or use one’s native language. Now, I would like to discuss why communication disorders is important, who we can rely on and what it’s like to work with those who have communication disorders.
