Knowledge makes our world go round. Knowledge is what makes us move further and revolve into something more. In the book “Fahrenheit 451” it states “they say you retain your knowledge even when you’re sleeping, if someone whispers in your ear”(Bradbury,89). Knowledge can never be taken from you. Even when you’re asleep your mind runs. Your imagination is going. The quote is saying no matter what you will always have have what you know.
Knowledge gives us, feelings, family, love and health. I think all around knowledge makes things real. Without it we would be just the the citizens in “Fahrenheit 451”. In “Fahrenheit 451” there world doesn’t know what feelings, family, and love is. This makes them feel empty. In result there is 9-10 suicide attempts each night. Millie,Montag’s wife, tried to attempt suicide by taking pills but the next morning she acts as if nothing had happened. In Montag’s world the citizens do not have any knowledge of anything. They are content with what they have. “Books aren’t people. You read and you

Everyone just goes with the flow. Who would question society when that is how you were raised. “How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real,”(Bradbury 52). It seems Clarisse opens Montag’s eyes so he could see the whole world the way it should. Clarisse made things real to Montag. Montag never had love, family, or feelings because he didn’t know what they were. He didn’t know what he was missing out on so he would never miss it. Knowledge changes people and Montag is the perfect example. With the knowledge he gathers he realizes what is wrong with their society. Knowledge is what gives others authority over another. So when Montag gains knowledge he see an outside point of view. Power comes from knowledge and maybe that’s why Montag was so important. The government of Montag’s world was out to get him because he knew things, and it gave him
Why is knowledge important? Knowledge helps us in life and is a key to succeed in life. As the wise Napoleon Hill once said: “Knowledge has no value, except that which can be guided from its application toward some worthy end. In the book Fahrenheit 451, they show why books are so important. Without books, most of the people have no knowledge and they became a dystopian society. In a dystopian society nobody thinks and everyone are forced to not have their own ideas. For example in Fahrenheit 451 no one is supposed to have books because one group of people (fireman) think it is trying to convey dangerous messages while the majority are forced to conform/ follow. It relates to the society we are living in now because a small group of people (government) think it’s wrong so everyone is forced to conform. In my essay, I will explain the importance of knowledge, how knowledge helps us in our life, how knowledge helps us understand our self and finally how knowledge brings more knowledge.
Clarisse affected Montag by showing him how to be curious and adventurous and teaching Montag to try new things. Montag being a fireman doesn't know what he is doing for his society, by him burning books everyone's knowledge goes down. Clarisse is not for society, she is more free minded then Montag "'I rarely watch the 'parlor walls' or go to races or Fun Parks. So I've lots of time for crazy thoughts, I guess.'"(9). She is against watching the parlor and doing stuff society wants you to do. Montag will be affected by this and learn from this, he will later be against watching the parlor. Clarisse's attitude to life is good too, it seems like she is the light in a dark room. She also always has something interesting to say this makes Montag want to be around her "'Let me come in. I won't say anything. I just want to listen. What is it you're saying?'" (17)Montag wants hear what she has to say for there is always something interesting to be heard when she is talking.
Montag sees the potential in books and can’t keep these rising feelings to himself. Just as the song describes, Montag was wearing a mask and posing to be something he’s not until Clarisse openes his eyes to a new world. The song later says,
Before meeting Clarisse, Montag was a strong adherent of the societal function of book burning. He was rather oblivious to the ignorant and critically dull society he lived in. His meeting with Clarisse was the beginning of his Metamorphosis into a critically aware and enlightened individual, one who could see the errors of society in forming a bubble around them. This “bubble” forming that Clarisse leads Montag away from is a serious issue, and even affects our real modern day world.
Clarisse helps Montag look around him and see everything, from the smallest snowflake to the biggest tree. Montag never really thinks about what is happening in his life, or why it seems he never shows much emotion towards anything. Clarisse teaches Montag to look around and to pay attention to what is really important in life, just not what his society tells him. Even though I believe Clarisse was the reason for Montag’s major metamorphosis, I believe that there were two additional individuals that had a role to play in Montag’s expedition to find answers to fill the void in his life.
Clarisse clearly states the attitude of other citizens and their level of ignorance by saying “No one has time anymore for anyone else.” This shows how the others care only about themselves and no one else. Montag, on the other hand, is different to Clarisse. She describes him as an understanding individual when she says “You look at me…You looked at the moon.” This confirms that Montag is not ignorant anymore because he has been introduced to knowledge by Clarisse. He understands more and more of what she tells hm. He is able to understand the past and interpret its meaning. For
In the beginning, Montag is desensitized and is as cold and empty as those around him. By the end, though, Montag is reinvented as a rehumanized, nonconformist outsider. Upon observing the step by step transformation Montag undergoes, the reader can comprehend one of the story's major themes: without self-identity, one becomes like the others around him. Without Clarisse, Montag would have never asked why things are the way they are. Without Mildred, Montag would have never realized how unhappy and empty society is as a whole.
Montag is a really conscientious and intelligent man. Montag is conscientious because, one day when the alarm goes off, Montag and his other co-workers rush to a big house with a woman that refuses to abandon her books, and they burned her alive. Guy comprehend that books are important and that burning books may be wrong."You weren't there, you didn't see," he said. "There must be something in books, things we can't imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing." (Bradbury, p.51) He is intelligent enough to question the criteria of his job, his interest for his wife and if his society is leaving in a camouflage of happiness. After he meets Clarisse, his seventeen-year-old neighbor and he realize her independent thinking, he knew he had to do the right action. Clarisse is the person that makes Montag doubt if he is happy. As he explains in one of the paragraph “ He was not
At first, Montag has a strong dislike for books and doesn’t mind destroying knowledge, but over the course of the book, his dislike changes into a love for knowledge and books. Later, he finds the true meaning of books and how important they are to our world. The quote sets
David Bailey once said, “The best advice I ever got was that knowledge is power and to keep reading.” Whoever reads this influential quote will infer that a person is able to gain knowledge by reading, that’s where the “power” comes in. But in the book Fahrenheit 451, where the government is totalitarian, society is not allowed to read any books at all or else the firemen of the town will burn down their houses. The government wants society to obey the type of system that is ran. They don’t want anyone to have a bit of knowledge, in fear of people thinking and learning how to make decisions on their own. “A book is a loaded gun in the house next door...Who knows who might be the target of the well-read man?” A person’s knowledge can be used
He first meets Clarisse walking home one night from work. She is unlike the people Montag is used to talking to. She opens his eyes to something other than the life he lives. “He wore his happiness like a mask,” and he only realized this, after reflecting from his conversation with Clarisse. (9) Realizing this, his happiness was gone, and he began questioning other things he thought he believed in.
Clarisse’s use of the society had impacted Montag early in the book to change. Clarisse appears to be different than others in the community. Montag meeting Clarisse seems to change his perspective of things in his life. After talking with her for a while he
Furthermore, Bradbury describes a possible outcome of condemning futuristic societies. At the beginning of the novel, Montag would interact with thoughtless people. Alongside, wasting time on activities that would deteriorate anyone’s mindset. Meeting Clarisse, would eventually lift a blindfold from his eyes and would be the beginning of an escape to a larger reality. Leaving a false life behind and defying the government, would bring a questioning of the government’s actions. Questioning the government will eventually bring chaos but for a better future, if any. Being successful in bringing a change is not easy but with many other open-minded people in society everything is worth a try. Freedom is not easy or free, it all comes with sacrifices
Montag is just like everyone else in the book, in which he is not aware that the people in the society are basically brain washed. The society is being controlled by the government but they don 't know it. So Bradbury uses Montag 's character to show that the society is different and is not aware that they are being held under the governments super vision. In the story there is a character named Clarisse, she changes Montag by asking him "are you happy". It is then when Montag changes his point of view on the world and some things around him like his personal life.
Plato once said, “Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.” Some believe that the desire for knowledge and the emotions that arise from it can be dangerous. This assumption is incorrect because possessing vast amounts of knowledge causes many positive impacts everywhere. Knowledge is not dangerous because it causes advancements in the lives of others which leads to a more harmonious society.
