On the other hand, In July 2010 Dell Inc. agreed to pay a $100 million penalty to settle SEC charges of disclosure and accounting fraud in relation to undisclosed payments from Intel Corporation. Michael Dell and former CEO Kevin Rollins agreed to pay $4 million each, former CFO James Schneider to pay $3 million to settle the charges. Both companies have come in contact with environmental issues, particularly given the recent trend toward sustainability and “green” practices. In 2007, Dell undertook the initiative to become the greenest company. It is important to note that although ultimately going green is cost effective, it does require investment upfront. Meanwhile, Apple is still under fire for its lack of environmental consciousness. As of right now, Apple has converted some of its products to be more environmentally friendly. This is one of the biggest factor that dell has not been able to incorporate in their designs and manufacturing of their product. This challenge is seen in many companies that produce computers, and personally I do not see how you are able to take something from nature and bring it to a computer. Another flaw that I see with this company is investing in natural capital is not one of their priorities. I could not find any information related to using their income to invest in these sources which is a shame given there green policy. Dells sustainable efforts are clear they account for any impact they make to the earth and society in general. Corporation must not only say they are sustainable but must be able to prove it with statistical data just like dell has every year. While this is a challenge for every company, Dell has proven that it achievable and they are a leading example. Although Dell is not perfect more work has to be done so they could crown themselves greenest company there overall goal is headed the right direction.
