As a senior in high school, the reality of entering the “real world” and job market is becoming more apparent. It is time to put our strategic and critical thinking skills into practice to help us create a plan after high school. I knew that I wanted my career to be associated with Forensic Science. However, I did not want to be the person to actually go capture the criminal and be on the clock anytime of the day or night. I wanted to be involved behind the scenes of a criminal case. I am more interested in investigating the puzzle of how and why that criminal would commit the crime. The career that best fits my interest is becoming a forensic psychologist. In that course I was able to learn everything from the history of Forensic Science to experiencing a hands on activities in which we had to solve a crime using the equipment that Forensic Scientists use. I fell in love with this field once I was able to take this course. I knew that this was a career I saw myself doing. Throughout the years forensic psychology has changed tremendously. The first person to imply psychology in the courtroom was James McKeen Cattell. He conducted an experiment in which he asked eyewitnesses to rate how confident they were with their response, and the results in this experiment brought doubt into the accuracy of most testimonies. Then other people began to look into the accuracy of the testimonies in courts and decided to apply psychology to it. People believed that there need to be a study where the eyewitnesses and criminals are evaluated to determine whether or not they are lying. This then enhanced the techniques due to technology and not only focus on the study of the testimonies, but imply these strategies to actually solving the case and help prevent these crimes from happening (Cherry
