Graphing and Estimating
Formal Lab Report
Introduction: Today scientists put acquired data into a form of a graph. This said graph is designed to help make predictions and furthermore, study and understand the experiment and its contents at hand. The Graphing and Estimating lab involves just that. The lab is designed to collect data from several tests involving burn time of a candle.

If the difference between the recorded times are more than 10%, add a third trial. Repeat these steps with each size beaker. Calculate the average time for each beaker and record the data. The next step of the lab exercise is determining the exact volume of the beakers used in the burn time experiment. Fill a beaker to the top with water. Carefully pour the water from the beaker into a graduated cylinder. Reading the meniscus, record the exact volume into a data sheet. Repeat this step with each size beaker until all volumes are recorded into the data sheet. The final process of the Graphing and Estimating lab is plotting the recorded data onto a graph. Using the data recorded for burn time, in seconds, place the data on the vertical axis. Use the horizontal axis for the volume in milliliters. With the data points plotted determine whether a straight line or a simple curve will best represent the data. Now, obtain a jar and determine the volume. Fill the jar to the top with water. Carefully pour the water into a graduated cylinder. Precisely record the data. Using the plotted data on the graph and the simple curve or straight line to predict how long it would take for the flame to burn out on the candle if it was covered with the jar that was just measured.

We set up 3 fermentation set-ups, labeling them 1, 2, and 3. Then, filled a tub with hot water and inserted the end of the plastic tubing into one of the test tubes and submerged the collection tube and plastic tubing in the tub. After that, we mixed the fermentation solutions for the other tubes, (tube 1 got 4mL of water and 3mL of corn syrup, tube 2 got 3 mL of water, 1 mL of yeast and 3 mL corn syrup, tube 3 got 1 mL water, 3 mL yeast and 3 mL of corn syrup) . We then mixed each test tube and put the rubber stoppers in the fermentation tubes. Finally, we marked the water level on each collection tube with a wax pencil to use as the baseline. Then at 5 minute intervals we measured the distance from the baseline for 20 minutes.
The purpose of the lab was to determine the ratio of air to acetylene results in complete combustion of acetylene gas. The balanced chemical equation for this experiment was C2H2(g) + O2(g) --> CO2(g)+ H2O(l). Complete combustion is the reaction of an element or compound with oxygen to produce the most common oxides and energy. Complete combustion occurs when the fuel and oxygen combine in exact proportions to completely burn the fuel, which leaves a clean test tube. Incomplete combustion is the reaction of an element or compound with oxygen to produce some oxides with less oxygen than the most common oxides. Incomplete combustion occurs when there is not enough oxygen to react
I will measure these individual alcohols by mass which will be measured in grams, I'll be making two readings of each alcohol before the experiment and after, which would tell me the mass lost and how much heat is produced. Dependent Variable, the things that I'll be measuring would be the temperature (oC) increase at the start and the final resting point once combustion has been stopped of each different alcohol being lit to heat the water in the copper calorimeter, and the mass before and after the experiment of alcohols. Fixed Variables, the things that I have chosen to keep the same in each individual experiment to keep it a fair test, is to keep the same amount of water being heated, the same copper calorimeter, as it may vary in conductivity, the height of the calorimeter, and the same amount of time for each
The experiment can also be done to compare the burn rate of different colored candles.
Present all relevant data in a data table below. Include an observations section for any observations you made during the lab. Make sure you note the data needs to be converted before graphing.
This experiment was performed to observe differences in density based on the chemical makeup of an object. Pennies minted before 1982, pennies minted after 1982, and an unknown metal sample was tested to see if there were any differences in their densities. Ten pennies from each category and the metal sample were weighed using a scale to find mass and the displacement method was used to find their volumes. The masses and volumes were then used to calculate the densities of the pennies (D=m/v). The density of the pre-1982 pennies were 8.6 g/mL while the post-1982 pennies were 6.9 g/mL. The metal sample’s density was 1.7 g/mL. Following the experiment we were given the real densities of each item to calculate the percent error with the formula

Paragraph 1 - How the Law of Conservation of Matter is supported by the experimental demonstrations: In the law of conservation particles and materials are neither created nor destroyed . It was similar towards the experimental demonstrations because nothing changed or destroyed in the processes .Kinetic and potential energy was used in the experiments.

The graph that is the most appropriate for this type of data is a histogram because it is used to compare things between contrasting groups.
The purpose of the “chi-square test” was to see if our data was in an acceptable range of a specific ratio listed above. The chi-square test took into account the expected deviations in the F2 offspring’s alleles.
Without one of these elements a fire cannot take off or extend. So we need to have three things in our life to keep our spiritual flames burning bright: Oxygen (The infilling of the spirit).
