Fossil Fuels : An Essential Foundation

Ever since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, fossil fuels have become an essential foundation in the innovative endeavors of mankind. Not only has it supported human advancement, but it is virtually ubiquitous in its use and its versatility provides for a strong mechanical prospect. Yet, these prehistoric sources of energy have lately been identified to be a major source of an onset against the well-being of the Earth. Because of the adverse effects of fossil fuels, the effort placed into the solutions for prevention, and the obstacles that will hinder the implementation of the solutions, global climate change through the use of fossil fuels is an imperative fact that invokes the immediate action of governments around the world. To start, climate change requires immediate attention due to the negative effects of fossil fuels. For example, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, scientists are over 90% certain that human activity in the last 250 years has globally warmed the Earth. These activities include deforestation, cement production, and natural respiration. The most predominant activity; however, is the burning of fossil fuels. For example, according to the U.S Environmental Protection Agency in 2013, 6% of the total CO2 emissions from the U.S came from non-fossil fuel combustion sources. On the other hand, 37% came from electricity, 31% from transportation, 15% from industries, and 10% of CO2 came from residential and commercial
