Freehling's book The South vs. The South: How Anti-Confederate Southerners Shaped the Course of the Civil War tells a unique story about the Civil War and one that is not typically discussed in history books. The book is about divisions within the southern culture, which might have led to the outcome of the war in favor of the Union. Perhaps all black southerners had a vested interest in the North's victory, but many white southerners felt the same way for many reasons. In The South vs. The South, Freehling discusses the way the Union used divisions in the south as a war strategy, such as by recruiting potentially neutral Americans living in border states. Recruiting soldiers from border states and western states with less entrenched plantation cultures versus their Dixie counterparts was one of Lincoln's key strategies and also helped General Grant secure some key military victories.

The novel, The South vs The South was written by William Freehling. Freehling's book argues that one of the key reasons for the defeat of the American South was that it was internally divided amongst itself. It could not raise the support needed to fight off the stronger North. In this paper I will answer question 3 in the topics given and discuss how reading this book changed my views on how the civil war was fought and won.

It was not until the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde father of the baby refuted the accusation, that the women were released. My mother (who is from El Salvador) and my nanny (who is from Belize) were the two women and I was the baby. My mom and nanny would not have been publicly incriminated and shamed, were they fair-skinned. McIntosh’s article substantiates the ubiquity of white privilege. White people do not have to worry about being monitored while running errands or being pulled over because of their skin color. I agree with McIntosh’s point

To explain, the criteria for forging one´s work is still the same as students who forge another´s signatures for documents such as report cards. Similarly, in Cornell, forging another´s signature for similar causes or to signify the a class completed is also prohibited. Also, the Tech students are also given the opportunity ¨to appeal¨ to the principal if feelings of injustice is expressed by the student. As in the entire book, in the chapter “Analyzing Arguments” the authors write to college students, particularly college freshmen. In this chapter the writers emphasize the importance of critically analyzing arguments provided by different sources and the reasons given by each. The authors wrote this chapter with the objective of explaining and aiding students by providing them with the skills required to accurately scrutinize other’s reasoning. Throughout “Analyzing Arguments” the authors demonstrate their authority and knowledge on the subject being discussed by explaining and simplifying the procedure of analyzing arguments.
Additionally, another source John W. Raine also supports the idea that juvenile offenders do not require to be put under sentencing to reduce recidivism.

Including the financial benefits, in that through specialization and by sharing incomes getting married boosts standard of living by thirty percent and this benefit is not incurred by cohabitating, as those who cohabitate do not share as much and are less committed to the wellbeing of their partner. In addition to the financial benefits, they also discuss the emotional benefits of knowing you have someone who loves you and who would take care of you. Children similarly benefit from having married parents as there are more financial resources available to help take care of them and they get to spend more time with at least one parent.
