What is the American Dream? Every American dreams of freedom. Freedom is a given priveledge in America, and as citizens, we get given the full treatment. Geela says, "In order to be truly happy and fulfilled, one must feel feel." So that would mean that the american dream is based off the idea of freedom and with freedom comes many advantages. While Geela illustrates the dangers of only focusing on the materialistic aspect of the American Dream, MKTO demonstrates making the dream through determination and persistance. And to achieve determination and persistence comes freedom. In Geela's article, "What is the American Dream" she unravels that the american dream consists of materialism and MKTO views it a different way. MKTO views the american dream as hardwork, persistence and ambition. Materialism is the force that drove the american dream away. To support the fact that materialism ruined the american dream, Geela quotes, "...deffinitly more to life then achieving material success." Now a days people are obseesed with material success and it connects to the american dream because people come to america in order to achieve material success and that became the modern, typical american dream. Instead of revolving your "dream" around material success, look at the things that truly make the american dream. Ambition, hardwork and persistence are a few things that contribute to the true and honest deffinition of the american dream. Doing what makes you happy and being able to achieve your own personal dream will help you down the road. Everyone has their own idea of what the american dream is and everyones is different. In MKTO's song, "American Dream" he specifically quotes, "Say goodbye to old picket fences". What this quote is portraying is that "old picket fences" are the typical and stereotypical idea of the american dream. However, MKTO is saying "goodbye" and leaving that old picture of picket fences behind and moving towards what he personally will make his american dream
