When I began this course I I was unsure of what to expect. The name of the class "Management for Organization" seemed like such a broad title. Just reading the title I new this class would entitle lots information. I was praying that I didn 't get a hard professor. Through out the course I have learned a lot about responsibilities and characteristics of a CEO or managers on down the line of a business. There were a few things that I like most and I will explain them to in this paper. The topics I gained the most insight from were: big five personality traits, Levels of planning, Personal leadership style and managerial tasks. I will explain and tell you abut and what they mean and how they apply to me.

Management differs today than it did in the past. In the past, managers were considered “bosses” and their job mostly consisted of giving employees orders, monitoring performance and reprimanding unproductive behavior and misconduct. The 14 principles of management founded by Mr Henri Fayol can be used to manage organizations and are useful tools for forecasting, planning, process management, organization management, decision-making, coordination and control.

Henri Fayol was acknowledged as one of the founders of contemporary management practices. His theories were the cornerstone of management as a discipline and a field (Mildred et al, 2010). Fayol advocated 14 management principles which were to be used as a guide to make a successful manager (Wren, 1995). Henri Fayol is a founder of modern management and he influenced business management in a significant degree. Fayol is one of the three classical theorists, along with Max Weber who came up with the Authority and Bureaucracy theory and F W Taylor who came up with Scientific Management. Henri Fayol (1841- 1935) started off as a coal-mining engineer at a large mining company in France when he was at age nineteen. Eventually Fayol became a Managing director in that mining company and hired around a thousands of employees. Fayol spent a total of thirty years at the company. After that, he devoted his life to management and this is when he introduced his theories to the world. Fayol were among the first to introduce management education to the world. He believes management needs improvement and it could be taught so he designed the principles as a guideline. He wrote a book about his perspectives of management in his book “Administration Industrielle et GeÂneÂrale” which was published in French in 1916. (Fells, 2000, p.345) This book outlines his perspective and principles on effective management in organization and is based on his own experiences as a managerial leader in a large company. His five functions of management and fourteen principles of management were discussed in the book, which are still relevant and are widely used in numerous companies in today’s business world.

Management practice cannot exist without the support of a theory. The complex character of management as the scholarly discipline, the variety of opinions concerning the essence and content of management theory, require systematizing knowledge about this phenomenon. Management theory is a relatively new science since its systematic development and academic research has started mostly in the 20th century. Although it is difficult to name the most important theories and principles of management developed throughout all the history of management theory, since such views can be quite subjective, basing on the research it is possible to point out the ones that made the most considerable contribution to its development. This essay will tackle some of the key management milestones and point out their peculiarities, importance, and possible limitations.

Successful management requires an understanding of the fundamental concepts of effective management techniques and principles. This engraves a picture into the mind of an employee or subordinate to what type of a manager you are. In this paper, I will cover the role a manager plays in an organization describing four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. I will then describe three traits: conceptual, human, and technical, which an individual must possess to become a successful manager within an organization and how they fit in with the four functions.

Over the past hundred years management has continuously been evolving. There have been a wide range of approaches in how to deal with management or better yet how to improve management functions in our ever changing environment. From as early as 1100 B.C managers have been struggling with the same issues and problems that manager's face today. I am writing this term paper to get a better understanding of management and the many factors of management. People and businesses have come a long way since the beginning of time. There are several different elements to think about when it comes to management. For example, management is made up by organizing, controlling, leading, and planning a business or organization. Management is often thought of as a factor of production along with money, machines, and materials. In management the people who plan, lead, organize, and control are considered managers. Managers have the responsibility and power to make decisions and oversee the corporation. “The size of management can range from one person in a small organization to hundreds or thousands of managers in multinational companies” (“Business dictionary,” 2016). In today’s ever changing economy, society’s idea of management is becoming increasingly more difficult to sustain with the continuous demands of the position. A successful manager must have a certain level of expertise and problem solving techniques to carry out the daily tasks required. Over the years, there have been various ideas on what management is, such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling.

The definition of ‘management’ is controversial and subject to much debate. There have been many contradictory views on what the term ‘management’ means and accordingly how one should correctly manage an organisation. These theories have been put forward by several highly regarded management scholars over time. By taking into account past knowledge and contemporary views on management, we are able to ‘’explore how thinking has changed through time’’. (Brooks, 2006). Moreover, businesses have, and can continue to be able to adapt these theories and put them into practice. Successfully applying correct management practices is especially vital in a global business environment which is becoming very competitive. ‘’Most management theories, even those that do not resonate comfortably with the prevailing mood, have attractive and valid elements to them.’’ (Robinson, 2005). For example, some of these theories can be seen flourishing in fast food chains like McDonalds.

Through the years, Fayol began to develop what he considered to be the 14 most important principles of management. Essentially, these explained how managers should organize and interact with staff.
