In my undergraduate work, almost all of my classes that were directly related to my major required at the least one group project. In the beginning this was not something I was very fond of mostly because I had some bad experiences when it came to working with others on projects. Usually it was the problem of people not pulling their own weight, and doing their parts to help with the tasks. When it came time to have the assignment complete it was even harder to give a grade to those people. I did not want to be the guy who caused someone to throw someone under the bus. However, after I thought about it, I did want to be that guy because in the real world on a work project if there was someone who did not pull their weight in the job projects would not be successful. I would always stress myself out more than necessary because I was independent in getting jobs done, and did not feel the need to get others ideas. Once I started to realize getting help from others who work right next to me on projects and finding out their ideas, and letting them have some of the responsibilities in helping me create successful tasks, my life became a whole lot easier. The work load is not as hard, and work tasks that would seem in the beginning so hard to figure out, and at times feel like a huge burden, had become less difficult. I think there are times when projects can get done on my own, without a problem. To further understand Belbin Team Role Theory, I, together with four students formed a team and simulated as being authorized by the Songjiang Government Bureau to investigate into the current situation and the prospect of the higher education industry in Songjiang District. During my college life on campus in my major, I normally get a lot of group assignment to complete. In my second semester, I have been engaged with some hard working group members who willing to achieve their goals. In this case, all of us were on the same pace to complete the assignment and get it done on time to the best of our ability. In my communication class called editing and film, One of the projects was to film some athletes performing and write an article about the sport. There were five members in my group and we all work together and each individual gets a sign task to do and complete it without an issue. We get one week to perform the task and the follow Monday we would have to present it to the class, we have complete the work on time because we all work hard together as a team to get the job done

The 12-step group I observed is Sunrise Semester, an alcohol-anonymous group open to women. The group meeting was held in a spacious room in a Catholic church. The group leader sat in the front, surrounded by the group members. The group had a relatively large size, with nearly 20 people ranged from the middle age to the elderly. Some of the members just started being sober while some older members have been sober for more than 20 years. When I first find out that there’s a group project, I wanted to work with people that I know are responsible, capable of doing the assignments, respectful, and don’t procrastinate. In this essay I am going to reflect on my experience working as part of a team and the preparation on an oral presentation I had to do in class with people from different courses, as part of the Foundations for Practice in Health and Social Care module. I have completed the group project the best I could. I did not receive until this morning. I texted her twice yesterday, once in early afternoon and again at 6:30 my time and she stated she was not at home and submit it later. I received a text at 5:30 am Sunday morning stating she was working on it to hold off posting it. I posted what they handed in along with what I completed. I was the only one to cite a reference, and did not have time to redo their part or wait for them to respond. I do hope we have communication as a group for the next assignment. Thank you for all of you help.
If you want a job done right, do it yourself. I have been guilty of approaching my job and many aspects of my personal life with this philosophy. I also enjoy the camaraderie of the team environment and enjoy working in a team environment, but it needs to be the right team. A critical assessment of my attitude towards group work is reflected in both philosophies. Teamwork is necessary but has always seemed flawed and ineffective. Someone still had to carry the burden and do most of the work. Looking back to when I first began this course, I was hopeful to learn more about the mechanics of groups and possible ways to promote positive teamwork. I expected to learn the theories behind organizational work groups regarding management, perhaps by doing case studies. I was not expecting to complete a group project; I had not previously heard of working collaboratively online to produce a combined paper.
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb’s learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin’s (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) ‘is a forum of response to the learner to experience’(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that ‘such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing “swift trust”’ (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.

Prior to this course, I thought that in order to manage a project you need to be a project manager. However, this course changed my perspective on project management. As I continue to read the book, I realized that I actually manage many projects, and project management is not only limited to organizations. Throughout our lives, we manage many projects from planning a wedding to building a house, some of those projects may take few days and some may take years to complete. In addition, I also learned that there are no two projects that are alike, each project has it’s own unique elements that set it apart from other projects.
