What does true happiness feel like? Does affluence make one happy? Does assimilating yourself into a different culture make you happy? What is your happiness? Consequently, we are always surrounded by these emotions of happiness, anger, and sadness. This is something we all desire and it plays a major role in our lives. “Euphoria is a state of intense happiness and self-confidence.” (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/euphoria) I’m sure everyone has experienced being happy at one point in their lives. Happiness is an emotion one feels when they are feeling satisfied with what they are doing. I believe that happiness should be diffused around the world. In addition, it’s a natural feeling that could be caught just by a simple smile. Although, one can basically experience flow just by being fully engaged in an activity they enjoy doing. I would say, the key to inner happiness is loving yourself inside and out, and of course feeling confident in all that you do. Some examples are, having self-care of one’s body, loving one another, and spreading love all around.
Unfortunately, it may seem at times that we are conditioned to accept all the negativity that is being forced upon us in the media. I believe that the news is a big contributor to these negative emotions we feel daily of our lives. Furthermore, we hear about tragedies that happen around the world, but never do we hear about the positive. The media programs its viewers with all the bad things that they talk about, which
In his essay, Gibbon writes “[the media’s] central bias is toward bad news” (249). Gibbon’s stance, alongside Sternheimer, creates a compelling argument against the media, and how it negatively affects society. The media tosses boring positivity to the side, and lifts up negativity to a pedestal for all to see. With all the attention on the bad, the public struggles to see the good. Instead of providing a realistic view of society, the media paints a dark picture, one with little positivity.
What then is happiness? Perhaps happiness is a basic and familiar concept, yet it may occur to be perplexing when one has to convey it through the medium of words. Lyubomirsky defines the term as “the experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one’s life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile” (Lyubomirsky 32). It is often subjective, personal, and can stem from a myriad of activities: some may experience similar feelings by engaging in sports, spending time with family and friends, others while reading or simply being in solitude. Due to the personal nature and subjectivity of happiness, a handful of myths pertaining to this concept has emerged. Three happiness myths were presented within the chapter: 1. Happiness must be found. 2. Happiness lies in changing our circumstances. 3. You either have it or you don’t. The first myth greatly piqued my interest, since I, too, have once externalized happiness and assumed that it would be found outside.
When watching the news on television, do we see more positive or negative stories? Television is an extremely powerful device used to captive viewers. Although television is an important source of proving information to a large number of people at once, it is being used to drive a wedge between different cultures.
Happiness is something that everyone seeks. It is one of the sole purposes of our lives to find it. Still, there are some people who don’t even know what it is yet. Happiness is when you feel at peace. It is when times are at best and you feel good.
Happiness is being surrounded by loved ones, having hobbies, and being challenged. Each one of
Happiness comes from within you. You become happy when things that were going wrong completely fall into place. You become happy when you lay your eyes on your first born child. You become happy when that empty space is filled. People often try to fill that empty space with wealth, but when you do that you fill only a small part of that empty space.
The destructive light of media we like to believe in unhealthy news more the worthy news. With news outlets, normally its only one or two decent things and the rest are sad events that occurred or will happen. The negative point on media is that the internet has people believing there isn’t a problem. They would rather listen to bad
School shootings, flight MH370, ISIS. All of these events are covered by the media and they all have one thing in common. They are all negative subjects and events. The media are reporting on negative content and this harmful content can have an impact on human behaviour in many ways like, we become desensitized to violence, and the negative stories also provide an unrealistic view of the world.
I define happiness as being the one and only creator of your own experience, choosing to take pleasure in what you have, right now, regardless of the circumstances, while being the best you that you can be. Happiness is feeling safe and supported no matter what your doing, and not being ashamed of who you are. Finally, happiness is, fundamentally, a choice. Your choice.
Everyone has their own way to find happiness. As it is a feeling, each of us has our own range and different definitions about this term. We know that there are many joyful things
What is happiness? This can be answered differently for each person. In my mind I find happiness in many ways. Some people find happiness by playing sports, others find happiness through animals or even through themselves. I can find happiness through many things but some stand out such as good news, decisions, and being grateful.
The media doesn’t help change the focus to positivity, but it does portray the general focus of the country. Out of the top 10 stories on Yahoo News in the US category on December 12th, every title gave off a negative impression. Although some of the content of the articles isn’t completely negative, the titles don’t radiate happiness or promote positivity let alone neutrality. The topics were centered around abortion, human conflict, crime, hate crime, and child death. These titles that are supposed to capture the attention of American citizens work through pain and hate.
In search of happiness for millennia, humanity has sought refuge in superficial objects, money, relationships, and nature. However, no one has much been able to define how to truly achieve happiness. It has been defined as achievable by being at peace with your inner self, or just being without worry for the rest of your days. Many Greek philosophers have added to the discussion as well as many Eastern based religions, as well as modern literaries, all claiming to know how to reach happiness.
Everybody has their own way to define the word happiness. Happiness has a different point of view for people. On my side, happiness is a mental and emotional state of well -being. There is happiness in being creative in dealing with problems achievement of wanting results because better is not enough the best is yet to come. Looking for happiness within myself sometimes be the most significant thing to accomplish. It is necessary to know that it has functional relationships with other people. People thought and knowing themselves helps them move forward with their life as well as provide a sense of peace and fulfillment. Happiness has to be shared with other people and helping others. Happiness is similar in Tanzania culture and American culture
Some of the information retrieved from the media may cause individuals to have a negative outlook. For example so individuals who constantly view violent news segments may believe the world is a violent place
