Hawaii has an extremely diverse environment, maybe the most in the world. But how? How did Hawaii get all the species(plants and animals) that we have now. The reason is the three w’s. Seeds and species got to Hawaii through wings, water, and wind. There were a few base species that spread out and diversified into the varied environment we have now. Birds flyed to Hawaii from all over the world. They breeded and created new species, our native birds. A bird would eat a plant in it’s homeland, fly to hawaii, and poop. The poop contained seeds of the plant. The seeds grew into the plants we know today as our native plants. Wind was another important factor in species getting to Hawaii. The seeds would fly across the ocean with the wind and come to land in Hawai’i. Once the wind dropped the seeds on the ground, plants would grow. Most of our native hawaiian animals and plants came here via water tides.
Located in the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii and the Hawaiian Islands are the cone-shaped tops of gigantic ocean volcanoes.
Essentially, the key fact that makes the islands of Hawaii so unique and worthy of studying is that nearly the entire mountain range is built entirely by volcanic activity and each island is the top of an enormous volcanic mountain. These exceptional qualities fuel the study of how the islands themselves were created, in order to answer the curiosities behind the composition of some of the most extravagant volcanoes in the world.
Hawaii is located in the central Pacific Ocean; it is one of the many islands in Polynesia. It is composed of eight main islands: Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaii, the island of Hawaii being the largest island of the eight (see attached map). According to the census bureau, as of 2014, Hawaii ‘s population is approximately 1,419,561 with Native Hawaiians forming only 10% of the population; in order to be considered a Native Hawaiian you must have one native great-grandparent (2014 United States Census Bureau). Hawaii’s official languages are English and Hawaiian. Hawaii was first occupied by people coming from the Marquesas Islands approximately 1500 years ago followed by people from Tahiti. In 1778 Captain Cook arrived in Hawaii finding approximately 300,00 Hawaiians there. In the 1850’s Hawaiians worked in sugar cane plantations. In 1983 Queen Liliuokalani was deposed and in 1900 Hawaii became a United States Territory. Fifty-nine years later, in 1959, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. Tourism plays a huge role in Hawaii’s culture; it is a big part of its economy and social life. This paper will be discussing Hawaii’s tourism and it’s effects.

The Overthrow was when the United State troops illegally went on Hawaiian soil and brought 14,000 rounds of ammunition, which resulted in the Hawaii losing control of their country. The U.S minister, Stevens was responsible for illegally surrounding the palace and for threatening to kill the Queen and destroy the palace if not signing a contract to abdicate her from the throne. The overthrow was unjustified because the Annexationists accused Queen Lili‘uokalani of plotting against the government because she wanted to write a new constitution. The reason the Annexationists found out was because the Queen told the cabinet her plan to change the constitution, which resulted in a leak of information.
On the 21st of August 1959, a small colony of inhabited Polynesian volcanic rock located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean became the 50th state named “Hawai’i”. Before Hawai’i became the 50th State, foreigners from the United States attempted to annex Hawai’i from its people and the Hawaiian Monarch for political and military gains. It all started as far back as 1893 when Hawai’i was ruled by Hawaiian Kings and Queens. All three attempts at annexation the United States Diplomats and foreigners failed until 1959 when Hawai’i declared Statehood. The United States Government and its political leaders celebrated along with a small portion of native islanders but sadden and dismayed the majority of native people felt it’s island being stolen

The United States was extremely interested in acquiring more land and further develop their great nation. Unfortunately, most of the world was already taken. The islands of Hawaii, led by a lineal monarch, had come to be known as an independent state. This meant that no one had claimed the Islands of Hawaii yet, and the United States patiently planned and waited for the opportunity to claim Hawaii as part of the United States.
As early as 400 CE the Polynesian people from the Marquesas Islands set sail in their double hulled canoes to find new land because of their poor agriculture. The Polynesians (who were very skilled farmers and fisherman) from the marquesas island were wanting to discover new land so this discovery of the big island in Hawaii was definitely intentional (Hawaii-guide, 2004).Hawaii is famous for a dance called the hula and the musical instrument called the ukulele. The ukulele was used in the dance hula this is still relevant today because lots of people still use this dance and the musical instrument ukulele.
