1. When a patient scheduled an appointment, they arrived, and now you are waiting to be seen by the doctor for over 15 minutes. Or when you have the appointment, and you have waited in the lobby for about 20 minutes pass your appointment time to be seen by the doctor, you’re called inside the patient room, and from there you are still asked to wait on the doctor for over 15 minutes. There are many factors to why appointments are delayed or re-scheduled that are beyond the structuring of time, however, there are some ideas that can help ease the annoyance of having to wait. The best thing to address is making sure the patient feels comfortable. Keep people abreast of the wait time and what’s going on. People understand things happen. However, they don’t want to feel forgotten. As Penn strives to provide customer service, it can be challenging to make everyone feel important and cater to all the questions and answers patients may have. A few options that are less time consuming for the doctor, but beneficial to the patients would be to have written literature attached to their discharging file of their diagnoses with gives them something to look into and is more detailed with information like symptoms, pre- treatments, and goals to be able to offer a cure. These things are already quick to find via the internet. Another option (budget permitted) would be to have a hotline for patients to call in to maybe interns or nursing students who could provide some sort of understanding to the patient.
