Or when you have the appointment, and you have waited in the lobby for about 20 minutes pass your appointment time to be seen by the doctor, you’re called inside the patient room, and from there you are still asked to wait on the doctor for over 15 minutes. There are many factors to why appointments are delayed or re-scheduled that are beyond the structuring of time, however, there are some ideas that can help ease the annoyance of having to wait. The best thing to address is making sure the patient feels comfortable. Keep people abreast of the wait time and what’s going on. People understand things happen. However, they don’t want to feel forgotten. Some doctor’s offices have grasped the ideas of distraction, provide TV with news and valuable information, brochures and literature read, even hiring nurses or …show more content…
As Penn strives to provide customer service, it can be challenging to make everyone feel important and cater to all the questions and answers patients may have. A few options that are less time consuming for the doctor, but beneficial to the patients would be to have written literature attached to their discharging file of their diagnoses with gives them something to look into and is more detailed with information like symptoms, pre- treatments, and goals to be able to offer a cure. These things are already quick to find via the internet. Another option (budget permitted) would be to have a hotline for patients to call in to maybe interns or nursing students who could provide some sort of understanding to the patient. This provides extensive learning for both the students and patients and that Penn is a research and academically driven medical institution, what better way to train and

According to the chapter 12 PowerPoint, “The structure of a program depends on it’s environment”. For the physical layout the sleeping arrangement is one thing I would change. According to the chapter 12 PowerPoint “The sleeping area should be away from the play area”. The cots were all in the play area, next to the bookshelves full of toys. I think if the cots were separate the toddlers would have a better time falling asleep and be distracted by the toys. The big room they play in, allows for physical development because there is this wide-open space where the kids can move around and play with any toys they want. One thing I would change about this, is that there are tents in the big room and the teachers never get them out because they said they’re a pain to get out and put back. This just showed me that the teacher decided to do what was more convenient for her.

Within the case, The Carbondale Clinic, it is apparent that a scheduling problem exists which has then resulted in patients being unsatisfied with the amount of time they must wait to be seen for his or her scheduled appointment with the physician. It is also evident that physicians prefer to have a full schedule without taking into consideration the possibility of emergencies that may arise throughout the day that will contribute to patients having to wait even longer. It is pertinent that the manager sits down with the staff to determine what is the most logical solution to help resolve the scheduling problem, taking into consideration what the physicians want along with ensuring patient satisfaction.
This would allow ample time for triaging the cases, completing documents and discussing possible solutions with the customer. By making an appointment and discussing with the customer beforehand how much time will be allotted them should keep everyone on track and decrease wait times.
Upon arrival a patient should have been made aware about a delay therefore he/she would not get inpatient. The appointment itself should not be rushed. A health proffessional should have explained everything in a clear and precise manner giving patient the opportunity to voice any concern or ask any additional questions. In regards to the appointment itself, the
