When explaining the implication based on demographic you really have to understand the meaning when dealing with health care. Demographic is the study of a population the based on race, sex and age. Demographic also is the study of level of education and income level among others. The government uses demographics and other corporations and non-government organizations. When the government uses these demographics to determine the population and characteristics, this includes economic and development trends this is very important as the size of the population will change over the time due to economic circumstances. With the population of elders that have the life expectancy of 65 would most likely need healthcare and other long-term services.
The rapid growth in the number of seniors in America and around the world is creating a global demographic revolution without precedent. During this century, advances in hygiene and water supply and control of infectious diseases have reduced the risk of premature death much. As a result, the proportion of population over 60 years in the world is growing faster than in any previous era. In 1950 there were approximately 200 million people aged over 60 worldwide. By 2000 there will be over 550 million, and by 2025, the number of people over 60 is expected to reach 1,200 million.
In 1901 just 4.0% of the Australian population were older people and after two decades this has increased to 6.4%. In 2011 the aged population continued to increase and reached 14%. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (Abs.gov.au, 2012) indicates that since the baby boomers are now becoming old, there has been a decrease in fertility rates and an increase in life expectancy. The population of people over 65 years has continued to increase and it is predicted that it will continue to increase for the next 50 years. As people become older they are more susceptible to becoming sick and in need of government benefits. Since there is a major
Thus, a better healthcare policy for the older population may help to address their many health related problem and the financial burden. Implementing a populace health approach to health, which focuses on the interconnected conditions and aspects that influence the health of the older populations over their life course, recognize the systematic disparities in their forms of occurrence, and applies the knowledge to develop and implement policies to improve their health and to reduce health inequalities (Plouffe, 2003). With that, the Government can promote healthy aging that heightens the opportunities to improve and retain the seniors’ health, social wellbeing, independence and quality of

Demographers predict that by 2061, 25% of Canada’s population will be over the age of 65 (BOOK 46). This will lead to changes in the social infrastructure of Canada. The health care system will have to adjust to support all the needs of the older people. The main type of ageism that is seen is inter-generational ageism, which is ageism between younger and older populations. The younger population of Canada is ageist towards older adults because they think they’re old and going to die anyways, so they do not want to waste medical resources on them. In the article, Dr. Beauchamp said that many of his patients were turned down from hospitals due to their age. However, he does not accept them right away; he examines the individual and examines their MRI and ultrasound images to see if there is anything he can do to help. Also, older adults usually contract chronic conditions which take more time and resources to cure, whereas health care professionals are focused on treating acute illnesses. The reason for this happening, could be that older adults are not included in drug researches, which leads to physicians not knowing how to treat diseases in the geriatrics field and not being able to provide certain treatments that may improve their patient’s life. Many times, health care professionals classify their patients’ symptoms as part of the aging process and do not assess the individual to understand what is causing
The aging population is growing in Canada with an all-time high of over 4 million in 2010. The elderly population alone requires care for treating chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, which require expensive treatments. The number of hospitalizations for such diseases has gone up substantially and is expected to increase. Thus, an increasing aging population will require more and more money from the publicly funded health care budget in the decades to come.
The two demographics variables I would like to talk about in my discussion which I fell affects my health the most are the social class and gender.
Knowledge of the social demographic trends of age and socio-economic status is integral in the planning process of any healthcare model, as it is vital to identify the various classes of individuals being covered. For example, on average, senior citizens tend to have a higher utilization rate for health services and incur more expenses than do adolescents and those in their twenties and thirties. In order to develop a healthcare
Health care leaders have bigger responsibility in recent times to engage and involve external and internal stakeholders to create a sustainable system. Accountability should not be on one department or one leader’s shoulders, but has to be shared among all the stakeholders including the providers, the patients, and the policymakers (Cleary, Molyneux, & Gilson, 2013). Creating and enabling an innovative culture by providing proper training to the workers is important to make sure that the health care workers understand the systems better. Each worker should have some basic understanding of the bigger picture rather than just worrying about their own job. Having generational diversity at work by having younger generation should be considered
Overall, I was not surprised that my scores varied depending upon the specific category. I grew up in a household that mainly revolved around school and physically activities including sports so I was expecting to score higher on these two categories. This survey accurately represents what aspects of health that I focus on the most. I was surprised to see that my social health was the highest category because I am usually a quiet person but I have tried to talk more with people since coming to college. My family was never very spiritual or religious so I was expecting my spiritual health score to be lower than all the other categories. This survey is an accurate representation of my overall wellness because the scores matched my expectations.

The aging population 65 and older is expected to exceed 70 million by the year 2030 adding to the long-term care workforce crisis in a sector that is already experiencing shortage issues. This will equate to approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population that will be eligible for Medicare by 2030. At this time our the current health care system is not prepared to provide the preeminent care for the aging that have multiple chronic health issues and disabilities. The shortage of providers specializing in geriatrics could put the health of our aging population at risk.
The social of demography of health are divided up into four important variations, social class, gender, age, and race. I also believe religion plays an important role as well. Within the social class in the U.S, the lowest working class’s health and longevity are affected tremendously. The poor do not obtain equal access to healthcare compared to the upper class. They also live in disorderly neighborhoods which increased the risk of major health problems. The type of health insurance or level of healthcare do not depict what type of health status a person will have. These are a few important key fact congress should consider while they redesign our health care system.
Population health is the wave of the future. Darves says “it’s the latest health care catch phrase and it has enormous implications” (2015, p. 6). However, when communities, cities and town are healthy the cost of that group’s healthcare is reduced. This is the ultimate goal of Hinden’s information and a growing number of varied populations. However, the effort involved must be concerted for the delivery model to succeed. The benefit of a concerted approach to population healthcare is that all care providers (clinical and nonclinical) take the whole health of the patient into account because all care providers now have a vested interest in the quality of care for which they are being collectively paid to provide. This is a new concept for most American providers accustom to seeking the maximum fee-for-service allowable and not always treating the whole patients because of volume based patient care practices.
