Cerner Soarian Clinical is a health care information system that offers a revolutionary workflow-driven design and addresses the dynamic nature of patient care. It positions health care organizations to manage processes, as well as clinical data, from beginning to end across departments, disciplines, and care settings to help improve operational efficiencies and the business of health care. During the two weeks of the go-live with the new system, there were a few anticipated as well as un-anticipated dilemmas that did surfaced. As observed the go-live consultants were ready for most and for the un-anticipated problems that presented itself, those questions were immediately taken to the command center to be rectified. The most important take away from this experience and a major topic and all our courses is that communication is the key. Everyone involved with this project must be able to communicate effectively for it to be successful. Cerner (the vender) provided us with the basic model of the Soarian software. Winthrop, like any other organization could modify it to fit the organizations goals. We utilize a vital sign machine manufactured from Welch Allyn. the vital sign machine is supposed to be in sync with Soarian. This simply means that once the patient bar code is scanned from their I.D bracelet, next the vitals are taken and once the healthcare provider press save on the Welch Allyn machine it should automatically have been uploaded into Soarian. The healthcare
One of the most important characteristics of an EHR while storing the clinical information is its ability to be interoperable: to share that information among other authorized users. If different information systems cannot communicate or interact with each other, then sharing is not possible. In order to achieve the objective to exchange clinical
The main objectives of the pilot program were to test the new features and to gain feedback from people using the new system. Six weeks before the new system went live, Butler set up 40 phones with department coordinators and high-level staff to test the new system. Over three weeks they tested the system and gathered information to help improve the system if need by. The overall goal of the pilot program was to ‘gain buy-in from the user community’. Obviously when establishing a new program, there is bound to be some problems and bugs. For instance, Butler encountered a software bug that caused immense stress to the staff and the system developers. Some of the issues caused by the software bug were random server reboots, lost phone numbers, voicemail malfunctions, and a problem with all of the multiline phones.

All together, Cerner is collaborating with our clients to put a system in healthcare, strengthen clinical practice and find entrepreneurial ways to solve healthcare’s great challenges.
Cerner offers Skybox storage for the storage of patient information. It has an unlimited storage capacity and the data is uploaded once and then available in the Cloud at anytime and location. Data is located at the hospital site and at Cerner data center locations. This allows for file replication in the event of data loss or corruption. Military grade encryption is utilized with continuous intrusion monitoring (Cerner, 2015). Security standards are also built into the system to meet HIPAA standard. HIPAA training must be completed by each new employee and a signature must be obtain that the employee will follow HIPAA guidelines. Access to patient information is only given if it is pertains to their hired position. The hospital must develop HIPAA policies that are updated annually. User specific logins and passwords are utilized to sign into the system and they need to be changed at set
This system has proven success in working with hospitals of this size. The hospital already utilizes many pieces of patient equipment which have platforms which interface easily with the Cerner®. This will allow the nursing, pharmacy, physician and respiratory care staff to pull patient care data from the devices into the on line documentation forms. Cerner® is certified for meaningful use.
“Athenahealth is a Watertown, Massachusetts-based developer of Web-based electronic health record (EHR), electronic medical billing and medical practice management software for small and medium-sized physician’s offices.”(athenahealth, 2009-2016). With all those programs and software’s included the physician and associates can accomplish sending and receiving information from one person to another. It can be used through a large wide selection of physicians as well with patient’s records.
Thank you for mentioning health care IT system. As you stated, health IT system helps health care providers review patient's vital information, it also assists patients to be more informed with their health. As a patient and health care provider, I like to see my laboratory work-up and tests. The increased awareness will help me work toward a preventive solution. For example, if my cholesterol levels are borderline high, or my glucose is elevated, it will prompt me to find ways to prevent progression to diabetes. Staying on top of your health and keeping an open communication with your primary care physician will promote better outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Stage 2 requirements are designed to promote the patient engagement by providing secure on line access to their personal health information and promoting health information exchange between providers to improve care coordination. In order for hospitals to progress to stage 2, they must have met stage 1 criteria for a full 2 years. In order for hospitals to meet requirements for stage 2 they must meet a total of 19 objectives (16 core, 3 menu). Many of these objectives require consistency and maintenance of stage 1 criteria. Cerner® features that aid in meeting stage 2 requirements for meaningful use are:
Cerner integrates patient information throughout all of the departments within a hospital setting. This program also has the ability to expand into other health care facilities within a community, such as long term care, hospice, and home health (Cerner, 2015). Cerner offers community hospitals solutions in their “Software as a Service” model. Cerner will host the software program, provide upgrades, and monitor performance to ensure stability. This will allow community hospitals to have a predictable cost for the software (Cerner, 2015). Another advantage of this system is the “Smart Room”. Wireless devices such as infusion pumps, and vital sign monitoring devices can access the system. This allows for instant documentation of this information into a patient chart and will alert if abnormalities are noted. Bar code scanners and carts are available as well. These items improve patient safety (Cerner, 2015). Cerner is capable of CPOE, electronic prescription transmitting, and has the ability to capture data and immunization statuses to meet reporting regulations.
The common goal amongst all healthcare disciplines is for optimal patient outcome. In order for such a goal to be achieved, all healthcare disciplines must integrate interventions/treatment plans and work collectively to provide continuous care. The usual health care members consists of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory/physical therapists, dieticians and social workers to name a few. Integrating care helps reduce redundancies, lower costs, allow for universal language, and an ability to share information. At the current moment, new technology such as universal EMR systems like EPIC and Cerner for examples, provides for better access to charts so that patients can receive
Proposed orders DO NOT become active until they are cosigned by the physician or resident. When placing proposed order the medical students must communicate clearly to the covering physician
Also, Cerner and Meditech have a few differences in their function and features in their applications. For the Cerner Powerchart Ambulatory, it does not provide application programming interface (API), but Meditech does. API is a program that allows two software programs to communicate with each other. In Meditech, a web API solution reduces development timelines enabling applications to be released to the market more quickly (Apcar, 2015). Therefore, it allows a fast, reliable and secure access to improve patient outcomes (Apcar, 2015). Another difference in feature is online booking. For, Cerner Powerchart does not include online booking like Meditech does. Online booking is used to start the scheduling
Demographic shifts in the global population, greater levels of technological disruption due to the Internet, social media and the en masse adoption of smartphones and tablet PCs are together re-defining the healthcare informatics market. System and informatics theories have emerged as the foundational elements of healthcare informatics supported by the Data, Information. Knowledge (DIK) Model which acts as a taxonomy for these developments (Haugh, 2005). Systems and informatics theories along with the DIK Model form the ontological foundations of healthcare informatics field of research occurring today and will continue to provide a basis for further research (Braganza, 2004). The intent of this analysis is to evaluate the contributions of systems and informatics, the role of the DIK Model, expert systems in nurse care and medicine, and the use of decision aids and decision support systems. All of these elements are critically important to strategic information systems plans healthcare providers put into place to serve patients while giving healthcare professionals the applications, systems and software they need to excel in their roles (Djellal, Gallouj, 2007).
What is workflow? Workflow is term that’s broadly thrown around across the board with no one clear definition. If I was asked to nail it down I would define workflow as any process or product that aims to streamline the daily workings of the office. Medical offices in particular benefit from efficient workflow as there are many non-revenue producing procedures that must be completed before a physician can even begin to focus on patient care or in other words to make the practice profitable. As you continue to read I am going to talk about EMR (electronic medical records), one of if not the most important innovation for healthcare in general and how this new technology has revolutionized patient management and drastically improved the daily
