Baptist Health, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky is the largest not-for-profit healthcare organization in the state. The vision of this HCO is to be nationally recognized as a healthcare leader in the state of Kentucky. Baptist Health was originally founded in 1924 as a single 120 bed hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Expansions in 1953 with the addition of Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky and in 1954 with the addition of Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky created the foundation for the HCO known today as Baptist Health (Welcome to Baptist Health hospitals and clinics in Kentucky, 2013). This mission statement and values statement demonstrate what is at the heart of the Baptist Health culture. Baptist Health has proved that it lives by its mission and values statement by providing outreach clinics in the most remote parts of the state. This allows the poorest Kentuckians access to cutting-edge healthcare. The quality healthcare that stated in the mission statement is proven by Baptist Health striving to meet or exceed measures as assessed by the HCAHPS, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. In the latest scores published after the third quarter of 2012 Baptist Health scored at or above the national average in all measures. In each geographical region, that the HCO serves all responses to the survey indicated that more patients would recommend a stay at a Baptist Health facility over any other facility in the region (Quality, 2013). Baptist Health operates with quality as its first priority. The HCO promotes current or future quality initiatives by joining or participating in quality programs administered by top national agencies.
