One of the most important discoveries made in science was the invention of electricity. Can you imagine going through a day without the use of electricity? The discovery of electricity had changed how this planet functions .Electricity was first discovered around 600 B.C by the ancient Greece by rubbing amber and fur to create static electricity. A lot of people contributed to the discover of electricity including William Gilbert, Benjamin Franklin, and many more. Benjamin Franklin conducted an experiment to show that lighting was electricity. He experimented with a kite, key, and a storm in which he proved that lightening are tiny electric sparks. Electricity is used in our daily lives, led to new discoveries in science, made easier for
The Enlightenment is when popular Christian preachers in the 1700’s preached to their congregation that freedom does not bestow from the English crown but is bestowed from God. They explained to their people that they had free will to choose what they wanted to do in order to be the best they could be for themselves. This included freedom of commerce, freedom of religion, and freedom of press. The Enlightenment gave people courage because of their faith in God to pursue freedom. Benjamin Franklin guided people in politics and people in the religious fashion and got them together. He helped facilitate the continental congress and other countries that would help support us during the revolutionary war. Franklin helped introduce Enlightenment to America through his readings, his writings, and his actions.
In my opinion, the automobile and the utilization of electricity have been two of the most important inventions in United States history. The invention of the car expanded our horizons in the fact that citizens were able to travel, but also because people could live in places other than the city. Also, the utilization of electricity has become a part of life that we would not know how to live without. Electricity has allowed for businesses and homes to run in a convenient and efficient manner. Without electricity, we as a nation would have very little technology.
Thomas Edison created the light bulb using electricity in 1878. The light bulb made it possible to create light at night without the hazard and struggle with a candle and matches-just a flick and the light was on. It could also be used to send signals or messages with Morse code, or a light to show when a machine was one, etc. Even now people use the light bulb for many things. Almost every household in the US has lights now. This invention could be one of the most
Ben Franklin was a very curious and inventive thinker. He kept thinking about different ways to experiment with electricity so he came up with an experiment with only a few materials (wire, mobile kite, handkerchief, and two sticks).(”Benjamin Franklin and Electricity”) Franklin
Last, Thomas Edison’s discovery of electricity and a method of transmitting it, was significant in many ways. Due to this discovery, businesses could operate around the clock. We were no longer limited to the
In 1765 Benjamin Franklin began to lead the way to the American Revolution. In previous years he was a defender of British Parliament, but he saw the treatment of the colonists caused him and many others to change their beliefs. The revolution was long in the making, and by 1775 the relationship between England and America can be described as poisoned and tense. The colonists viewed themselves no longer as part of the British Empire, but an independent nation. They were no longer the Englishmen who sailed the Mayflower to The New World in 1620, they had evolved into Americans.
In the same way, in Franklin’s 1725 work of writing, A Dissertation on Liberty and Necessity, Pleasure and Pain, he admitted that he would have liked to be a philosopher, but he knew that he never fully would be. Through this, he showed his outlook on philosophy and ways to embody and contribute to society without making it a career. For example, Franklin’s scientific innovations set a platform that inspired others in the future. Franklin’s writing impacted the era of the Enlightenment in a way no other writer had done because he stated his philosophies with humor but also with meaning (Kennedy). As Wilson stated, Franklin was a, “...symbol and source of inspiration for the philosophers, and one of the most widely admired foreigners in
Benjamin Franklin is quoted saying “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”(Franklin) This quote is in regards to the British government that were giving the American Colonists no say in their freedom. There was a compromise of liberty in turn for safety that the colonists were giving up. Franklin saw this as foolish and consequently uttered this quote in the rebellion of the Crown. He was a strong believer in fighting for rights and freedom; eventually, he helped in writing the Declaration of Independence tearing America from the King.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706 , when the United States consisted of 13 colonies ruled by England. The problems between England and the colonies began to emerge after the war from France and India. The imposition of the Stamp Act and some other intolerable acts, caused the colonies to revolt against England. In April 19, 1775, the American revolution began and settlers fought for freedom. During the struggle for independence, Benjamin Franklin was sent to Europe as a representative of the colonies. In 1776, Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence and in 1778, the Treaty of Alliance with France. Also he negotiated with French to assist colonies and became Prime Minister of the United States in France. He contributed to the provision of arms, ammunition and other things for the army. He participated in the peace negotiations with England and then signed what became known as the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain (1782).
Today we know the electrical fluid to be electrons. Franklin was the first to write that electric charge and be collected not created. The law of Conservation of Electric Charge means that you can neither create nor destroy electric charge. In 1752, his most famous works were brought out such as proof that lightning is electricity. In 1753, Franklin received the Copley Medal from Britain’s Royal Society, which was the equivalent of a modern Nobel Prize. Franklin also invented the lightning rod, which we still use today, it has saved countless lives. He and John Hadley investigated the refrigeration principle. Because of this, we now know the reason of the refrigeration
In 1787, the retired Benjamin Franklin attended the meeting to amend the Constitution of the United States, becoming the only simultaneous signing of the three most important documents of the founding fathers. The three documents are: "Declaration of Independence", "Treaty of Paris in 1783", and the 1787 Constitution of the United States. In this year, Franklin donated to build the Franklin Marshall University .
People such as Benjamin Franklin, Eli Whitney, and Samuel F.B. Morse have made life changing moments in history. Franklin introduce the idea of electricity, with his more commonly known experiment the key and kite. Though Franklin only established a connection with lightning and electricity, it lead to greater discoveries. Such as the controversy, Tesla versus Edison, and alternating currents(AC) versus direct currents(DC). With all invention there is the common theme of aiding civilization; to make diffucult tasks simpler, but we can't always predict the outcomes.
Franklin had been studying electricity and that is how he became a scientist. So he decided it go out in a thunderstorm one day, with a kite. Then he tied a key to the end of it and flew the kite. Then thunder boom boom lightning strike strikes it hits the kite and that caused electricity!!!!! Which is invented by Benjamin Franklin, who became a scientist. As a scientist he also created Franklin the lighting rod. He also invented the stove which we use today, but VERY different models. Benjamin had some more great invention like the bifocals, armonica and more. Bifocal means a pair of eyeglasses having lenses with two parts with different focal lengths. Armonica is the sound of wet fingers on the lens of glass that lead to his own musical invention called the armonica
Among writing and printing, Franklin was also known for his scientific discoveries. His most well known discovery was the way electricity flows with positive and negative forces, which resulted in his creation of the lightning rod. He also pioneered ways of measuring heat absorption in regards with color, the conductivity of substances with heat, and discovering storms appearing in the northeast are travelling from the southwest. Along with these discoveries he invented many gadgets that we still use today, bifocals, smokeless chimneys, the Franklin stove, and the flexible metal catheter. He continued to help with scientific discoveries and research, even after he his most famous accomplishments. The
Electrical engineers have an impact on the world in this way by trying to find better energy sources to fuel us and keep the power on but what helps electrical engineers is what tools they use.
