Immigrants in America Essay

Many people have come to America for a better life and to get away from all the troubles of their homeland. These immigrants, like those throughout U.S. history, are generally hard workers and make important contributions to the economy through their productive labor and purchasing power. America is considered a melting pot of many diffrent ethinic group. Immigrants should be able to enter America with little if any resistance from any border patrol. Immigrants in america take the low paying, hard labor jobs that , unfortunately, some americans don't want.

The United States of America has millions of illegal and legal immigrants more than people that born in the country. Our country has received many immigrants since 1600s with the pilgrims and continued in the time of industrialization. Many of those immigrants were searching religious freedom and better opportunities. But they faced racial discrimination, low pay rate, and didn’t have opportunities to find better jobs. Now in our times, people still immigrate illegal and legal in our country. They are people just like us and they need to be treated right and fair. The United States should help illegal immigrants to have the same and equal rights that citizens and shouldn’t be punished for where country they come from.

The culture of every ethnic group is beautiful in its own way and worth cherishing. Today, America is known as the great melting pot not for the number of immigrants it has but rather because of the wonderful cultures and traditions the immigrants brought with them. Immigrants do not need to forgo their mother tongue, significant celebrations or customs to become American. However to be socially accepted, they will need to learn English, take part in celebrating national holidays and fulfill their patriotic duties Americans like every other U.S citizens.

Illegal immigration at the U.S. - Mexico border is a growing problem, and the death toll is rising as more people are attempting to illegally enter the United States. As a result of an increasing number of people trying to enter into the United States illegally, the border is now being guarded by an increasing number of border patrol officers. The United States implemented different laws and operations to prevent more illegal immigration from Mexico into the United States. The ‘Operation Gatekeeper’ was introduced in 1994, which increased the number of Border Patrol officers. The most recent and controversial law was passed in Arizona, which essentially ‘allows’ officers to use racial profiling to check legal status of anyone in that

America as we know it today has been shaped by immigrants. It can be argued that America shapes immigrants as well. It is a nation that people, nationalist or foreign-born, desire to assimilate partially or fully into. According to a New York University professor, “Immigration, however, played a key role not only in making America’s development possible but also in shaping the basic nature of the society” (Diner, p. 2). It is a nation built on this idea of the “American dream” which varies depending on the person. However, it is something that holds steadily in an immigrant’s mind that is possible to achieve. America’s past, present and certainly future will be formed by immigrants, and once they get here America will coincidentally form their being as well.

Debate over immigration and immigration policy is not new to the nation's history. For a long time, Congress debated legislation to control the immigration problem. As immigration rises and hatred grows more laws will be carried out trying to release some of the pressure. Immigrants offer cheaper labor to businesses. Immigrants do not get minimum wage, but instead they get paid lower, this gives the business an edge over other competitors.

Illegal immigration has caused a lot of controversy within the United States. The media has influenced our society to make us believe that illegal immigrants are horrible people. One thing that I have learned throughout life is, “Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains (Rousseau 4).” This sums up how society dictates our lives and limits us to what the media wants to us to believe. Whether it is legal or illegal, everybody should be treated equally. Illegal immigrants might always end up with the short end of the stick, but they heavily support the US economy. They contribute by paying taxes every year. In addition, they adopt difficult low wage jobs that are not of interest to the average American.

Ever wondered why many call America a melting pot? Have you ever thought of why there is so much culture in America? Why are there so many different races, styles of clothes, food, and more in America? I will tell you why. It is because of Immigration. Immigration provides a variety of religions, clothing, celebrations, and food to America. Immigrants come from all over the world even today. They come for a multiple of reasons, too. They have benefited America in multiple ways also. America would not be the same country it is today without immigrants.

America as we know is founded from immigrants. They created this country and made it become the diverse country it is today. [2] . “ On their arrival, they found themselves in the midst of a tremendous wave of new immigrants from all over Europe and Asia.

Starting with the first pilgrims immigrating to the United States in the early 1600s, immigrants have been coming to American in search of religious freedom and the opportunity to make more money. The United States is a country that was founded by and has grown exponentially as a direct result of immigration. A survey from the United States Census Bureau in 2009 showed the current number of immigrants living in America was 38,517,234. (http://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/frequently-requested-statistics-immigrants-and-immigration-united-states-1) Each immigrant from around the world brings with them culture, lifestyle and religious differences that may seem strange or odd when compared to our current cultures. Most Americans place their pride in being apart of a country where a man can start at the bottom and work his way to the top. We also stress the fact that we are “all created equal” with “certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” (Jefferson 45) During the early 1900s white Americans picked and chose who they saw fit to live in America and become an American. “Those that separate the desirable from the undesirable citizen or neighbor are individual rather than race.”

Since the beginning immigration has played an important role in the American history. America was built on immigrants, beginning with the first people that came in a ship called the Mayflower. They came to North America to see the unknown or the new world as they called it. Now they have adapted to their new place, also, more people have come since then.

The history of Immigration has been around since the 19th century, in between the 1880’s and 1920. From only between that time line our population has increased substantially. The U.S is the most common country to migrate to, making the U.S multicultural. There are immigrants who may have an issue within their country or economy, leading them to another country for their own sake. Other immigrants may also be migrating to other countries to escape poverty and better their wealth or life. Immigrants are able to spread their culture and could also help the country industrialize with their ideas or have a better understanding of the culture. Therefore ur country wouldn’t have any of these ideas without the spread of ideas and even today

The United States is a very diverse country, which makes it the most unique out of every other place in the world. What helps this wonderful country of opportunity become what it is to this day is because of the immigrants who traveled here. Coming from a family of immigrants I know first hand what my grandparents and parents had to go through to earn the life they gave me today. Immigrants are an important part in our society. They do the work that most people don’t want to do. As in, work in factories, construction sites, and on farms. Immigrants help run a high demand country, so why get rid of them? They have a purpose here.

The increasing accommodations directed toward immigrant culture worries many Americans. Americans fear the special treatment granted to immigrants will affect the unifying force of the country. Today, the trend is toward multiculturalism, diversity and adapting the newcomer, rather than on the newcomer adapting himself or herself to a diverse society (61).
