Women’s roles in the American household had been the same since the discovery of America to 1848. Women in the simplest of terms were meant to run the household, raise the children, cook, clean, etc. This began changing in 1848 when women wanted to break free from the social norms and develop a social role outside of the household. Women felt that their lives would be completely transformed if they earned the right to vote; once they earned the vote then they would earn equality across the board. This desire for social change began boiling many years before 1848 when women began reading and writing domestic novels expressing anger towards women’s dependency on men. They began attending women’s academies and formed ladies’ benevolent societies where they pursued their own personal interest and activities. Then in 1848 approximately 200 women gathered together to hold the first women’s rights convention in the United States. This convention discussed the social, civil, religious condition and rights of women. The economy over many centuries have changed and developed in a variety of ways. One of the most influential economic systems that had developed between the 1700’s and the 1900s is capitalism. Capitalism is an economic system that is controlled by individuals, rather than the government, and requires the working class to use all its resources in order for the capitalist class to retain a profit. One question that still remains is this; how do women’s rights compare to capitalism? There are many theoretical concepts that have helped shape capitalism throughout history. Women’s rights are the rights given to women to express equality when being compared to a man. In the year that capitalism was developed, patriarchy played a dominant role regarding home life and the workplace, which motivated women to take action. Women’s rights are significant in the development of capitalism because it protested the male dominant atmosphere to create opportunity for women to take part as working class and to obtain equal status with a man in regards to everyday living. This resulting in a dramatic change in our economic system. Gender inequalities during the 18th and 20th centuries had a mass contribution to how capitalism developed.

Zora Neale Hurston was one of many authors who left an impact on society, particularly black America. Hurston is a remarkable author who reflects her life in most of her writings. She was a writer during the Harlem Renaissance Era. Women have waged war for equal rights for over 150 years. Although women had won many battles in the United States during that time, the 1960's proved to be the period when the movements greatest advances would come to fruition. The birth control pill was introduced in 1960, and in 1964 Title VII of The Civil Rights Act passed which prohibited discrimination in employment based on a person's sex (U.S. History 884). These two events energized the women's rights movement, and many significant achievements would follow. The women's rights movement advanced more in 1960's due to the birth control pill and the Civil Rights Act than it had in the previous 100 years.

The women’s suffrage movement fought for and eventually secured suffrage, or the right to vote and run for political office, for women. During the 19th century, women were steadily becoming more educated and more politically aware; as a result, they also became a great deal more concerned about their freedoms, rights, and treatment as individual persons and as a collective entirety. As a social movement, the suffrage movement mobilized through the strategic organization of activists working within both the abolitionist movement and the broader women’s rights movement. It is important to note that achieving the right to vote was not initially the women’s movement’s primary concern; gender equality was of foremost significance and has continued to be an overriding issue within the ongoing global women’s movement. Although the suffrage movement faced many obstacles and struggled to establish public awareness and notoriety, it continued to gain momentum and traction after these critical events.

As Many years of fighting our country was formed to be a great and powerful nation. As the colonies wanted to break away from the British Empire, it was still being run like a business. You can’t have a production without workers so as this nation was form and wars were to be paid off it took the settlers a lot of hard work and taxes to pay off debt. We are doing it to this day, that we work hard so the government can spend our tax dollars to build this nation and pay off wars. Human rights which include the right to life and liberty as well as freedom that belong to all human beings inherently despite of their statuses without discrimination (United Nations, 1948). Among issues of human rights, women’s rights could be one of the most serious ones. In the 1990s, women’s rights were not generally accepted as human rights and suffered various violations (Bunch, 1990). Despite women’s rights have been improved so far in most regions that female have almost equal employment opportunities and enhanced status in society, the issues of female rights need to be considered because they still have inferior positions compared with men in workplace and society due to a lot of factors.

Throughout the history of mankind, the rank of women has been extremely pivotal in the development of the humans. At present, the progress of the nation is determined by the high positions of the women in the society in terms of the employment and the work. It is said that without the contribution of the women in the political, business, social, economic and national activities, the growth of the country will stagnate. Although in the past, the women were more accustomed to working in homes and taking care of children, etc. but now they are stepping into the outside world due to advances in education for women and increasing awareness.
