As a student at Arizona State University, I have already been in the Phoenix for almost one year. I have found that public transportation in Arizona is not really convenient. There are plenty of college students here and we are at the same situation. Most people in Arizona drives cars instead of taking the public transportation. However, not every college student has enough money to buy a car. The public transportation is not convenient. I have seen a statistic status shows that Phoenix is in the last 10 cities that with a good public transportation in United States which means our public transportation here really is a problem.
There are really many challenges if we try to improve public transportation, the government will be cost a lot of

Phoenix is large city in the United States and it is also the biggest city in Arizona. There are lots of who people live, work and study here. Therefore, there are always traffic jams in the rush hours which are morning and afternoon. If the government could improve the public transportation, for example, by adding more buses, there would be fewer people driving cars. According to Tribune (2009) Arizona lobbyists criticize claims that spending more money to improve public transportation is important, not only for creating more jobs, but also for help for reduce traffic, air pollution, and our dependence on oil. This shows that the public transportation here should be improved. Improving public transportation will also be beneficial for citizens in Arizona. It is because there will be fewer traffic jams then people will be taking buses instead of …show more content…
If the public transportation improves, more and more people would take buses instead of driving. Then there would be less CO2 for our environment. Mohammad-Beigi, Nouri and Liaghati (2015) claim that the population in large cities is growing very fast, which means that transportation needs also increase really fast which leads to environmental problems. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, improving public transportation is a good solution. This study shows that driving cars really causes air pollution and it is harm for our environment. Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona, so the population growth in Phoenix will lead to the same problem that the three author mentioned. Improving public transportation will be helpful in decreasing the number of drivers and therefore reducing toxic emission. According to the PR Newswire Europe Improving public transportation in Brasilia (2009) claim public transportation is good because buses are more orderly, and they are safer and have less impact on the environment. It also shows that public transportation can help to reduce air pollution. Phoenix is an urban city like Brasilia, so it has a similar situation. Improving public transportation would be a good solution because it will lead to less driving. Then we will reduce exhaust gas
The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The Transportation Demand Management in Halton Hill’s is noticing the increase in automobiles stating that there needs to be a major shift in more efficient ways of transportation, yet there still has been nothing improvised (p.7, 2011). The Transportation Demand
Improving transit will reduce commute time and amount of cars on the road. Toronto is ranked 47th worst traffic in the world. This means that Toronto has a real traffic problem. We must improve the system. This means, having better bus routes and more buses, more subway lines. Toronto currently has only 4 subway lines. This is nothing compared to New York with 34 lines. If our transit
The United State has always been weak in public transportation and mass transit tools. California was once supposed to be different and revolutionized. Trolleys connecting the suburbs to the city and business districts was the main reason why cities expanded vertically. These mass transit tools organized the transits in an extremely environmentally friendly way. But the venue of cars and the thought of independence flattered americans pushing them to each buy a car, synonym of their independence. Now the trains and connecting public transportations have practically disappeared and are irrelevant.
Fifty cents of the gasoline tax dollar increase will go towards making the public transit system more feasible to people. This includes more bus stop locations, more arrival and departure times, more accessible train and airplane facilities, and increased safety precautions. Cheaper fares would also be a good means to increase the use of public transportation. In Huntsville, Alabama where the town is trying to have an efficient city system and is doing well at it, the tourist trolley fare is one dollar per trip and two
As a student coming from Vaughan to Union it takes the train every 30 mins to come to the Vaughan. Having less transportation causes inconvenience which draws to another issue when it comes to waiting for a bus for twenty minutes. For a change, we should have trains and buses come frequently in times of ‘rush hours’ at popular destinations. It saves people valuable time and they can get home earlier to their family. The government should upgrade their system for express transportation for those individuals who live far, from Union to Barrie or Union to Brampton. It takes about 2 hours with few stops in between. Having an upgrade system on express trains will benefit because 2 hours can be reduced to an hour or 30 minutes train ride. It will make people want to go to trains because it saves their time. They don’t need to use their car as a result it helps lessens the traffic for buses and have greater improvement opportunities to meet the desired areas foe
Traffic in downtown Austin, Texas is becoming a sever issue and is continuing to become slower and more congested every day. Austin ranks 4th on a list of U.S. cities with the least efficient roadways, and with its remarkable growth rate, the issue can only get worse. After reading numerous articles based on opinions and statements from local city planners and engineers, the best way to see an improvement in the traffic issue is to increase the amount of public transportation in the Austin area. The increase of public transportation would provide fast travel time and would help reduce the amount of money, commuters and locals use on gas by a substantial amount per year. Though many may argue the that we have enough public transportation already, reducing the number of personal vehicles on the road would decrease the amount of bumper to bumper traffic experienced on a daily basis, as well as increase the options for those commuting to the city every day. there are many possible solutions, such as widening the highways or even building them underground, these solutions however are not the most economically correct and productive way to relieve traffic downtown.
The author of this article wrote that it is important for the citizens of Detroit to vote for a public rail and bus transit system. Puentes states that there are a myriad amount of jobs but there is also no way to get to them. Although there are many buses, trains and routes in Detroit, there are no connecting routes from one region to another or to the city itself. This makes it harder for people to get to their jobs in less than an hour. Something else the author mentions is that most of the families in Detroit receive low income, so they cannot pay for all the buses needed in order to go to work.
There are two main culprits of the public transport industry responsible for this mess. These are namely the bus and rail companies who despite, receiving large government subsidies, simply can't rectify their problems.
Making the use of public transportation easy will make those families use it. It would also be better because maintenance of a car would be more expensive than the usage of public transportation. Public Transportation will not only decrease the number of vehicles, it will decrease the number of automobiles that are old and environmentally unsound. Apart from that,if only the immigrants use the public transportation, that would not be the solution for air pollution since the SUVs and the cars with big engines in the richer part of the city also cause air pollution in city of Los Angeles. As I mentioned before Los Angeles is renowned as the capital of the movie and the show world. Because of its reputation, the city has become a favorite spot among wealthy people and it adds a different aspect to our issue. In the certain parts of the city, luxurious and dashing life style is obtained by families. Most of these families have an individual car for each family member and these cars are mostly either SUVs or cars with high fuel consumptions. Therefore it would be a lot harder to solve this problem because of the fact that people with certain incomes are not likely to use public transportation. Efficiency of the public transportation should be as high as possible so people would actually have to use it. Los Angeles is so spread out that the transportation itself is actually a problem. If the City of Los Angeles
Firstly, on average, for every billion dollars invested in the field of public transportation capital and operations creates and supports 36,000 jobs (2). Furthermore, these new 36,000 jobs will in turn result in approximately 3.6 billion dollars in business sales and approximately half a billion in federal, state, and local tax revenues (2). By maintaining this yearly funding of public transportation there lies the possibility of a whole new job sector emerging which could, in turn, stem long-term unemployment rates. Secondly, there is strong evidence to support a positive causation between public transportation and beneficial effects towards families and businesses. For example, for every dollar invested in the field of public transportation, approximately four dollars are generated in “economic returns” (2). There also exist statistics that claim that for every 10 million dollars invested in public transportation, there is potential for returns as high as 30 million dollars in business sales solely (2). Individually speaking, the average annual savings for one that takes public transportation and chooses to live with one less car is just a little less than 10 thousand dollars (9,900)(2). In order to show the saving nature of the public transportation system, estimates claim that without public transportation, costs from traffic congestion alone would have risen 19 billion dollars (2). The last of the outlined economic
We need you and other members of the government to take More serious action to assist this issue. Forms of public transportation have been put in place to attempt to lower the amount of vehicle pollution, more emphasis needs to be put on them. Past attempts to assist the issue need to be reinvigorated, such as the “carpool lanes”. And, while I may not know enough to give realistic ideas on how to improve the condition, there are others more knowledgeable than me who would know how to improve the
The picture to your right may be new to you. It might be a familiar sight. What is it? Well, it’s obviously a train station, but which one? It’s not San Diego’s Union Station. It’s not the Tucson or Albuquerque Amtrak stations. Although it might be surprising to think about, this station is the Phoenix Union Station! To those who have lived in Phoenix before 1996, when Amtrak discontinued service, this may not be all too surprising. However, for us post 96’ transplants, the thought of an Amtrak train, and for that matter any passenger train, traveling through the Phoenix Metro is a weird and humorous thought. Yet, for twenty years now, Phoenix has been the largest city in the United States without passenger service. Amtrak had rerouted the Sunset Limited after the Union Pacific
A study done by the American Public Transit Association reports that for each year per person, riding light rail transit versus an automobile reduced hydrocarbon emissions by nine pounds and CO2 emissions by 62.5 pounds; per mile, this is 99 percent fewer emissions than one automobile. Long term environmental concerns are also addressed with LRT, as this form of transit lasts upwards of 30 years, whereas buses last only 15. The combined effect of taking cars and buses off the streets will be very beneficial to the environment, and will also benefit the residents of Elkhead by lowering travel
Maintenance: Without money how would the transits be clean and pay for gas? Alone it takes $65 million to construct roads and railways to improve, but without people paying they won’t have any money to enhance anything. What i mean by this is that if the head of the transit department comes to an agreement that people shouldn’t have to pay for a ride, it
Public transportation can help reduce stress caused by driving, save money, and also protect our environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the road. In order to get more people off the road and into the public transportation system we must increase the number of buses and taxis that are available. We must also increase the number of stops available for daily bus routes. With more stops on the map more people are likely to use the bus system. Each city or town will be able to decide where more bus stops are needed and make the adjustments necessary to provide better service for the taxpaying citizens. Of course, none of this is possible without adequate funds in each town/city and the gas tax is guaranteed to provide those funds. Providing more public transportation will help us reach our ultimate goal of protecting the environment and ourselves.
