How does the speakers' rhetoric evoke a reaction from the audience, in the speeches? Political speeches use rhetorical devices to persuade the reader to engage in their speech. "I have a dream” by Martin Luther King Jr, ESPY award speech by Jimmy Valvano, JFK's inaugural address, the Gettysburg address by Abraham Lincoln, 2009 inaugural address by Barack Obama are examples of political speeches that contain rhetoric. Throughout the speeches asyndeton, procatalepsis, allusion, antithesis, ethos, pathos, logo, repetition and parallelism are used.

The informative speech tends to be one of my personal favorites when it comes to publically performing the speech in front of a group of peers. This speech tends to be one of my particular favorites due to the fact that if you are going to be presenting it, you should be the one who knows the most about the topic and should be delivering it in a fashion in which your peers find interesting. Even if the topic itself isn’t a very popular topic you as a presenter should be able to make connections to the audience during this time which makes them very intrigued with your topic and maybe even considering further research in that area

During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. As Kelly Anderson’s Foreign Policy Analyst, the following memo will address three areas of the United States’ foreign policy. The U.S. has gone through may transition when it comes to its foreign policy. The United States has been an isolationist, neutralist, and internationalist country from the year it was founded to now. The executive branch and the president apply their power to influence and change the nation’s foreign policy. There are specific departments within the Executive Office of the President (EOP) created to assist the president in his or her process. Political context and historical events have occurred to prove why intervening with another country’s issues does not benefit the national interest and why isolationism is a better system for this country. Hopefully, the memo will accomplish informing what the foreign policy is, was, and should be.

The wind tousled my hair around as I closed my eyes and took deep, shaky breaths. The faint sound of the crowd cheering upstage didn't help with my nerves, so, instead, I turned my ears to the delicate waves rolling up the beach. America needs to try a new strategy of war for once. We have become so worried about other countries that we have forgotten to take care of the problems we have inside of our own country. We have proven to not be effective at Fourth Generation wars. We continue to train other armies who do not do as good of a job as they should, and then we have to come in and try to fix the problem.

According to Peter Doolittle's Ted Talk working memory is limited. There is only so much our working memory can take away from the information we learn. This is why it is important for me to construct my speech in such a way that it helps keep my audience engaged and leaves them remembering the topic long after my speech is over. I could do this in a couple different ways. I plan on engaging my audience by sharing a story connected to the topic early on to make it personal to the audience and keep their attention on the topic throughout the speech. Besides telling a story I will arrange my main points into clear patterns that help my audience follow my speech easily. This means I will make sure my main points are easily understood by the audience.
