Sturman, Corgel and Verma noted, “the motivation, the drive, or compelling force that energizes people to do what they do comes from either inside the individual (intrinsic motivation) or from the environment (extrinsic motivation)” (Sturman, Corgel, & Verma, 2011). Per the Profile Survey on page 49 my two “Not at all Characteristic” behaviors of noticing appropriate rules and following them and encouraging others to develop and solve their own problems are more like in need of improvement behaviors. In my mind motivation is closely related to encouragement and I have noticed one of my areas that need improvement is recognizing when people need me to encourage them to take action versus when they need me to help them solve a problem. Mr. Swift has proposed that after a year of a child's birth, they be eaten if the family wishes. I, being a mother of a baby, currently, could not approve of this proposal more. Me and my husband together, concur, this will allow us to not go hungry, but also fulfill our wish to have another baby. We've always wanted more kids, but we only desire a baby. We don't want them after they have grown older. We already have an older son. Now, with this proposal, we won't go hungry and we can stay full for months on end and all I must do is push out a baby. No big deal.

Books like Driven by Daniel Pink talk about the scientific data that supports the notion that humans are not wired to be rewarded with more money, but instead a sense of purpose. Allowing yourself to view all the possibilities instead of restricting solutions can provide more positive rewards. An example of this is someone loves their job and it brings them great enjoyment, but then a reward is offered and the job seems more like work rather than an enjoyable activity. The evidence he showed was giving an extrinsic reward produces substandard results when individuals where asked to complete a job where critical thinking was needed to complete the task at hand. Individuals become less creative and unable to solve problems when they are given a reward in the end. Dan showed that people are motivated by cognitive task than those who are rewarded.
