Perfection is a godlike attribute in which many strive for, but often many fail. Looking into the way of Buddha, he has reached this state of perfection and enlightenment on his own, not through a higher power. In many ways he fulfills the attributes to be a God, though, there are also numerous differences that do not suggest he is like a God. Buddha is claimed by many to be a teacher of the Gods. Throughout the teachings of Buddha he thought believing in a higher power is originated from fear. He wanted people to understand their fears, lessen the desire, and ultimately accept what cannot be changed. There was no teacher in the knowledge that Buddha obtained, no higher power, no other source than himself. It is seemingly to be there is no one who claims to be more godless, yet, be so godlike at the same time. Over the years of people asking Buddha is there was a God, his answers showed how thinking the belief that there is or isn’t a God is equally useless. At one point when he was talking to a man who believed in Lord Rama, he told the man there was no God. Yet, later on in his life, it is said when an atheist had approached him and asked if there was a God he told them there is a God. A leader in a way of life, the Blessed One and all knowing are some of the godlike qualities that Buddha possess. He is known in many forms of literature and very influential in worldly religions just like many who are claimed to be God’s. Buddha not envious, he is compassionate for
Buddha once said, “In separateness lies the world’s great misery; in compassion lies the world’s true strength.” By this he meant that when we are separated by the things we classify people by in society, we are not truly happy. Only if we unite can we be all be satisfied with our successes. Buddha is the founder of the religion Buddhism, one that focuses on suffering in life. He tries to better the world and its people, much like Jones, Chavez, and Tubman. They were all great defenders of human rights, but the most impactful of all was Harriet Tubman.
considered a perfect being unlike humans or any other world subject. The fact that he is perfect
Buddhism is a major global religion with a complex history and system of beliefs. The founder of Buddhism is said to be Siddhartha Gautama, the son of an Indian warrior-king. Gautama led an extravagant life through early adulthood, reveling in the privileges of his social class. Gautama became bored with the indulgences of royal life so he wandered into the world searching for understanding. After encountering an old man, ill man, a corpse, and an ascetic, he was convinced that suffering lay at the end of all existence. He then became a monk, depriving himself of worldly possessions in the hope of comprehending the truth of the world around him. The culmination of his search came while meditating beneath a tree, where he finally understood how to be free from suffering, and ultimately, to achieve salvation. Gautama became known as the Buddha, meaning the “Enlightened One.” He spent the remainder of his life
We don’t know details about the life of Siddhartha “Buddha” as nothing was written down by him or his disciples until hundreds of years after his death. However, the legends that were passed down paint a very humble and intriguing picture of the man known as Buddha. The story states that Buddha was born into a very lavish lifestyle; he was given anything and everything he could ever want and kept very sheltered in order to protect him from the realities of the world around him. Eventually becoming curious of the surrounding world he escaped the royal walls and seen what the world
According to Christian religion God is the heavenly father who is our creator. By following the teaching of Jesus Christ who was considered to be God’s here on earth. But in the eyes of Buddha
Buddhism is a world religion based on the teachings of Buddha, who was born Siddhartha Gautama in Nepal around 563 B.C.E. and lived in Nepal and India. Siddhartha was a privileged man who withdrew from the world, learned and meditated, and achieved the Enlightenment that made him Buddha. Buddhism has undergone schisms and evolutions but has some core beliefs such as Nirvana, Anatta and Dependent Arising. In addition, the Buddha's teaching centered on the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to end the cycle of suffering and achieve Enlightenment and Nirvana.
It took him six years, but one morning Siddhartha awoke from a night of fighting an inner battle and had an “Awakening”. He began sharing his message of awakening which includes a middle path between extremes and self-denial and self-indulgence and finding truth and reality through self-introspection. His followers called him “the Buddha” which means “the Enlightened One” (Bickel and Jantz). His teachings included Four Noble Truths: Life is all about suffering, the cause of suffering is our desire and greed, there is a way to overcome our desire and greed, and lastly the path to happiness and relief of suffering is an eight step process. There are three qualities to maintain this enlightened status: wisdom, mental discipline and ethical conduct. Unlike most Western religions, there are not a lot of rules and regulations in the Buddhist religion, however there are three fundamental principles upon which the religion is based. Buddha which is the finding the path of enlightenment and teaching it to others, dharma described as the true ways of things and sangha which is a community of monks, nuns and laypeople who practice and promote the dharma. The central religious practice for Buddhists is the intense dedication to meditation. Meditation is the process of understanding the nature of reality, obtaining dharma and awakening
Although Buddhism evolved from Hinduism it differs from Hinduism in god beliefs. According to Buddhists there is no God, but they reverence the Buddha and his teachings as though he were one.
Many people like the fact that Buddhism has a simple way to life but one of the most appealing things about Buddhism is the lack of a divine being. Buddhism does have a founder but its doesn’t have a god or divine being. Buddhism doesn’t offer forgiveness for peoples sins, they don’t believe in sin. There is no heavenly hope. And there is no final judgment meaning there
Followers of Buddha were taught how to be kind, gentle, and how to have a positive mind that cares for their lives. Buddha’s teachings were clear and gave suggestions on how people were supposed to live. Spiritual teachers only focus on teaching people the idea of spirit. Buddha’s work was focused on teaching people about the holy world and how to live a life without suffering. He cared for his followers and believed in educating them in a positive way. People respected the Buddha and viewed him as a Savior
On the one hand, he said, “Oh yeah! I’m a Buddha, an Enlightened One, I have come to know everything quite clearly!” But then, also he said, “It won’t do you any good to believe that. So doubt everything I say.” I think that is quite marvelous, not at all religious, not demanding obedience or faith. Furthermore, remember the great verse with which the Buddha has been celebrated for twenty-five centuries. It is not something such as, “Oh! He met God and God told him this or that,” like a Western prophet, or even the idea that he was God (though, later, some Vaishnavas acknowledged his eminence by making him a God, then ignored everything he said by making him a God who plays tricks on the asuras!). No, the verse epitome of the teaching was first stated by Ashvajit, one of the first five disciples, to Shariputra, who asked what the Buddha
Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. Buddhism doesn’t have that. Instead they have the Buddha, which is an enlightened being. The first Buddha was man named Siddhartha Gautama, the prince of the Sakya clan. Key word; man. Gautama was not some super-immortal being that ruled in the sky requiring rituals and faith. He also had no requirements to even follow his teachings, his whole philosophy was about bettering yourself, he did not want to be modeled or idealised. There is no doubt he was prophesied to become either a holy man, or a great ruler, but by no means does that indicate he was a God of
Buddhism’s founder was a man named Siddhartha Gautama, meaning “one who realized his goal.” Buddhists believe that when Siddhartha’s mother, Maha, was conceived she had a dream involving a white elephant carrying a lotus flower. She interpreted the dream to mean that her son would grow up to become a great spiritual leader. Just a week after Siddhartha was born, his mother died. Upon her death, he lived with his wealthy aunt and his father on a large estate. As Siddhartha grew up, his father kept him away from all suffering and anguish of the world. Unlike many of his peers, he was well educated and free from the world’s sorrows.
Buddhism is religion that is based off of peace and spirituality taught by the teachings of Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gotama. Many who follow its teachings believe Buddhism to be more of a way of life or lifestyle choice rather a religion. Buddha is not a god, but one man that taught his followers a path of enlightenment from his experiences and values. Buddha’s main teachings were the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. The Four Noble Truths were teachings about suffering, pain, disease, happiness, loneliness, and aging. It explained why we as humans can overcome certain obstacles in our lives by looking at the more spiritual side of things such as “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own
One of the ideas I was wrong about Buddhism is that I thought that they worshipped a deity which was Buddha and that Buddhists pray to him just like Catholics pray to God. In the lectures, I learned that Buddhism didn’t have a god which was weird for me to learn because all the religions that we’ve learned before had a type of God. I found it interesting that Buddha was seen as a teacher and was never turned into a God like in Christianity, he was seen as a revered teacher and great influence to look up to for Buddhists. The lectures also taught me that Buddha himself didn’t believe in a higher power but believed that a person could reach nirvana for themselves and not because a higher power was telling them too because that’s why he did it. He did it for himself when he meditated under the tree so that he could learn about himself and how the world works and its secrets. Learning that Buddhism had no God to obey, I felt like
