Cloud computing has grown in popularity to the point that it is now becoming the preferred method of the business community for accessing services on the Internet. This paper examines the reasons for this growth and explores the benefits and drawbacks of this technology.

It would be fair to say that cloud computing has changed the way the business used to do. With the evolution of cloud computing, IT companies can get software to hardware and infrastructure to staff requirement on demand. Cloud service providers also fully mange the services which can be provided at any time. Cloud computing utilizes a combination of the internet (cloud) and computer technology (computing). It is broadly defined as methods to deliver information or services to customers who pay for what they use. It uses the architecture in which one provider is giving services to multiple organizations. This paper, I will be discussing about risk and challenges of cloud computing. My main focus on the paper will be over cloud, its standardization, challenges/concerns and current business transformation.

The introduction of cloud computing infrastructure has brought in many changes to the infrastructure of any IT organization. Cloud computing has become the latest and most advanced infrastructure service to date. More and more companies are migrating to cloud computing service as days go, as they provide more flexibility and scalability and user friendliness in many aspects of an IT infrastructure.

Cloud computing is basically a model based on “pay as you go” that reflects the best business approach for the organization to pay only for the services that are used. Organizations have adopted this approach rapidly due to the attributes of minimal investment, rapid deployment along with cost reduction. Thus, the organizations are free from monitoring and managing the technical issues as it is offered by the service providers. According to Modi, et al. [2], around 91% international organizations have adopted the model of cloud computing for its significant element of cost reduction.

Cloud computing is one of the newest major evolutions in the technology industry. It is a paradigm where computing resources become available at any time, from anywhere just having an Internet connection. The cloud eliminates the need to be physically close to the hardware containing the data user wants to obtain. It can own both hardware and software necessary to run business applications. Cloud service also reduces costs for a company, by excluding the need to buy additional servers and memory storages. Furthermore, because this method of computing uses the pay-as-you-go payment method, it charges organisation based on the usage. This means that business can purchase more space or reduce their subscription as it is required

Over the past several years, cloud computing has been getting attention as a new computing model for providing flexible and on-demand infrastructures, platforms, and software as services. Cloud computing is a technology through exchange of information and software management. Cloud computing allows users to use computer technology without the installation in their computers. It allows users to access their files or data from any computer having an internet connection. Cloud computing provides more efficient computing by centralizing data storage, processing and bandwidth. This technology emphases on virtualization of the host server or the controlling computer. The server acts as a communication network through which information could be shared. The information can be stored, retrieved and shared as and when required through a widespread global platform.

Cloud computing is the growing method of computing adopted by many organizations nowadays around the world. The word ‘cloud’ refers to the network, the servers providing the cloud services can be located anywhere in the world (Garg & Buyya, 2012). The services are provided through internet and made available to the end users. Several definitions are given for the cloud computing in the literature. According to (Mell & Grance, 2011), “Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This Cloud model promotes availability and is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.” Different advantages of having cloud computing includes, services are available on demand, the users have to pay only as per the use and the services are accessible from anywhere as it is available over network. There are different service models and deployment models available for cloud computing.
