It takes hard work and a lot of energy to become an expert in the education world. There are amazing teachers who would do anything for their students, but there are also teacher who are just there to go through the motions. The best teachers are to ones who are passionate about what they are teaching and would go out of their way to see their students succeed. Over spring break, I had the opportunity to interview an amazing woman who is like a second mom to me. Her name is Kristina Harvey. Kristina went to Walden University and Western University in Illinois to pursued a degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating at Western Kristian received her first job at Beach Elementary in Round Lak Illinois as a third-grade teacher. She then moved …show more content…
Her fifth year of teaching she taught second grade. After hearing Kristina’s background of her road to becoming a teacher, I began to ask her questions about her teaching experience. The first question that I asked Kristina was what influenced her decision to become a teacher? Kristina’s response to this question connected greatly to my own influences. She had known that she wanted to teach from about second grade. Kristina nannied and babysat for multiple kids when she was younger. The experience she had with watching kids had an impact on what she wanted to do in her life. Having the opportunity to relate to children …show more content…
The first question that I ask Kristina was what do you believe are the qualities of an excellent/expert teacher? She said there are a million of qualities that make up an expert teacher, but a few of the key ones are trusting, flexible, compassionate, responsible, and enthusiastic. A teacher must be flexible. Everyday a new curve ball will be thrown your way, but you just need to learn to adjust and be flexible with your teaching. Ashlyn Edwards is an elementary school grades teacher and is licensed to teach grade levels K-6. She currently resides in Texas and has taken some time off from teaching to be with her family. Before taking the time off, Ashlyn worked in two different schools, one of which was in Georgia and the other in Kansas. In Georgia, she taught Kindergarten and in Kansas she taught grade 1. I chose to interview Ashlyn because I had met her several years ago through another friend and I found out she was a teacher at that time. Even though I had not got to know more about Ashlyn before this interview, I was hopeful that she would be able to provide me some insight into what it is like being a teacher and the ups and downs of the job. I asked Ashlyn five questions related to her job and she provided answers that not only guided me but also helped me to understand ways that I can become prepared to teach.
I was reading the newspaper this afternoon and I noticed the last name, Harvey. Kaitlyn Harvey was a ninth grade girl with down syndrome that went to Sterling High. She was the first killed in the shooting. The article was not about Kaitlyn, but her mother, Yvette Harvey. She had killed herself at a local gun shop. Everyone knew that it was because of the devastating loss of her only child. I could not stop myself from thinking that even though the shooting is over and Peter is in Prison, his death count is still rising. I cut the article out of the newspaper and put it in this journal to remember the people suffering from my son’s wicked actions. I wonder if Peter knows about what happened to Yvette Harvey. I asked myself if Peter felt guilty
Christy Bickett’s greatest influences on becoming a teacher were the teachers she had in her life. Her first teachers, her parents, always emphasized the importance of education. Both parents went back to college while she was attending school demonstrating the changing effect education could play in their life. As a struggling reader in elementary school, teachers showed her the worlds she could discover in books with their constant reassurances. In high school, her teachers and coaches served as a second family pushing her to achieve more than she thought possible.
There are numerous skills and attributes necessary for an outstanding teacher, but plenty of them stem from content knowledge, flexibility, and passion. An outstanding teacher needs to have adequate knowledge of content in order to teach the students effectively. Therefore, the outstanding teacher will continue to seek professional development relating to his or her subject area so as to have as much current and up to date information about their content area as possible.
What makes a teacher outstanding goes far beyond their content area knowledge. They will wear many hats throughout the academic year, acting not only as a teacher, but also a mentor, cheerleader, and coach. An outstanding teacher is approachable and tolerant, they are their not only to teach, but to build valuable relationships with the students, parents, and the community. Additionally, they are life-long learners who instill the love for learning into their students while continuing to grow themselves. A superior teacher will continue to grow learning not only from peers but their students as well. While every student may not love Shakespeare, an outstanding teacher will ensure students make text-to-self connections needed to keep them engaged.
For this assignment, my interviewee is Joanna Mawhorr, a previous graduate of Newark High School in 2010. After obtaining her high school diploma, Mawhorr attended Ashland University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2014. While at AU, her ambition led her to pursue a dual major in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist. In addition to this, she also obtained her K-12 reading endorsement. Shortly after graduating from Ashland University, Mawhorr was offered a teaching position at McGuffey Elementary in Newark, Ohio. This is her third-year teaching first grade, and she couldn’t imagine herself in another classroom.
Lezlee wasn’t the typical little girl that wanted to be a vet, doctor, or princess when she grew up. She never had a dream job, or any plan for the future. However, she loved school, and all of her teachers. They helped her to learn and grow beyond just school work. She pondered for years what to do, until the age of 18, when she realized what she would enjoy doing for the rest of her life. Similar to the teachers that helped her, she is caring and nurturing towards kids. These traits helped her when babysitting, and helping special education kids throughout the years. After a year of planning she had a plan, and drive to get 2 BA degrees in her hometown, and move all the way to New York to get into a master’s program, she was ready. Lezlee
Kate Harvey was a surprising lady, even without the occurrence which lies at the heart of the acclamation. She was, for a begin, an expert lady in what was all that much the man's universe generally Victorian Britain. She was, in addition, an expert in that most brave of new trains - physiotherapy - about which the British Medical Journal was raising concerns. To numerous respectable Victorians this biomechanical perspective of the body in wellbeing and disease sounded uncomfortably like a code word - physical contact which may get rather excessively near the sexual - a perspective which adjusted strictly when spinal damage units and orthopedic healing centers were presented after the First World War. In any case,
From the time I first started talking, my mom instilled in me an appreciation for all facets of learning. Looking back, I now understand how important one’s values, principles, and experiences help shape individuals. It is the culmination of both my mom’s passion for teaching and my desire to make an impact in the lives of future students that I have chosen to pursue a degree in education. In my four years of post-secondary education at Lebanon Valley College, I hope to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
An outstanding teacher is extremely knowledgeable and understanding of the content being presented and teaches the lessons dynamically to cater to all students’ diverse learning styles. To ensure that the teacher is knowledgeable and understanding of the content an outstanding teacher has to have an on going, voluntary, self motivated pursuit of knowledge for their profession and the content they are teaching. A superior teacher must always strive to improve upon that knowledge base through research, investigation, and professional development. Outstanding teachers need to strive to be lifelong learners and continually grow in their professional development.
There are various teachers, but only a few outstanding teachers. To be an outstanding teacher, you need countless considerable characteristics.
I started to volunteer at my church in the children’s building working with children for ages 5 to 7 and really enjoy it. I have been a Sunday school teacher for first and second grade for 6 years. As my daughter and family dynamics changed I made the decision to go back in the workforce. I quickly realized I did not want to be in the same kind of work I had previously been in. My true happiness is working with children. Through the years, I have been asked by parents and friends why I am not a teacher. For so many years I didn’t have the answer, but I have continuously been shown the path for me is education, from relationships I have gained with children, to other educators and parents. This past school year I started my journey in Education as an Aid for Special Needs for an Elementary School in Little Elm. I spend most of my days with working with First and Second graders. I have 7 students I work with throughout the day. I have learned so much from working with these students; it will only help me to be a better teacher. To know the 3 main keys to success are very crucial in teaching all grade levels. This particular profession is interchangeable with ideas, implementations, and procedures. It is very important to know the keys and how they
What made them good teachers? How did they help you?Well 3 things that a teacher should have is a college and high school degree, understanding, and have patients.
What defines a great teacher? A great teacher is someone that can come in everyday and put a smile of their face and try to make a difference in their students lives. A great teacher is a teacher is a person that care about their students and want the best for them no matter. A great teacher is a person who tries to push their students to their top academic performance and inspire their students to follow their dreams and to achieve them. This teacher for me, that pushes everyday in the classroom and who inspires me to be a teacher is Mr. Jason Bagwell.
Growing up, I always had aspirations of becoming a kindergarten teacher. Teaching young children and wanting to make a difference by having a positive influence on their early developmental years, were just a few reasons that a kindergarten classroom had the potential to be a life changer type of career. Teachers play an important role in fostering the intellectual and social development of children during their formative years. As I grew older and began my collegiate career, my path took a different direction. As part of my project, I had the opportunity to interview an amazing kindergarten teacher, Ms. Melton. This is her 8th year as a school teacher and she is one of the four African American lead teachers at the rural school she works at.
