The idea that all views are valued and should be shared is the total opposite of the authoritarian manager style. Authoritarian leadership maintains structure through the control by micromanaging.
It is characterized by the collective decision-making of its followers. Democratic leaders offer their followers choices and support. They hold no formal position of power and gain their authority through active participation and delegation of tasks and responsibilities. This style reflects democratic principles that include inclusiveness and equal participation. Democratic style of leadership works best in a public university, a democratic nation or a close-knit neighborhood. As discussed during the presentations, some of the past leaders known for their democratic style of leadership are George Washington or Tommy
Leadership can be defined as the process of identifying a goal, motivating others, and make them to achieve the mutually goals (Giltinane, 2013). According to Humphreys (2002), successful leaders do this by applying their leadership knowledge and skills. A good leadership is not only good at management, but also use different leadership styles in different situations. A successful corporation must has a good leader who have the flexible ability which can provide a suitable leadership to make the company successful. Furthermore, there have no perfect leadership styles in the world. Different leader have different leadership styles which also have the different strengths and weaknesses (Ali & Waqar, 2013). The democratic leadership style provides for a happy medium between the autocratic and laissez-fair styles of leadership. In this scenario the leader attempts to provide direction to the group without overpowering or creating follower dependency on himself. This style of leadership is most likely to provide for satisfied and empowered followers. An example of this style of leadership can be seen in a workplace where employees feel empowered to work independently with clear and concise direction from leadership.
A1. Leadership Style Upon conducting research, it is clear that the definition of “leadership” is not agreed upon. It is fluid, based upon many perceptions, situations, and surroundings. According to Robinson (2010), adopting a specific style of leadership is rather futile as it is, “contingent on the personal traits of the leader, the people being led, and the nature of the activity.” Tools are available to help guide potential leaders in determining a preferred style of leadership. For example, utilizing the “Leadership Self-Assessment
A leader is described in different ways, some are naturally talented to be a good leader, and some obtain their leadership ability from their environments or from their experience, and others get leadership ability from academic, career, and accumulated skills. The leadership theories helped me understand the concept of leadership better because it educates me on the different leadership options that are available. Leadership and followership is not based on specific characteristics. Leaders must draw from things and approaches to find the right style. A follower’s attitude determines the way a leader leads. According to Johnson (2011) “Being a good follower means ensuring your boss is supported, but only if he is making optimum decisions”.
The purpose of this paper is to reflect and make an analysis of the general strengths and weaknesses of a leader, provide recommendations, thoughts of overall performance to improve on this person’s leadership style in which practices and theories were utilized most effectively. Upon such, draw conclusions and provide an integration of this leadership practice into my own leadership practice. The accomplishment of this will be achieved by identifying several key practices from published documents surrounding and encompassing the leader, and comparing them to known relative concepts for a holistic view of the approach.
In the article on "Daily customer mistreatment and employee sabotage against customers" Wang (et al 2010) attempts to explain an apparently paradoxical problem that often vexes managers: why would employees mistreat customers when the lifeblood of the business (and their jobs) depends upon customers returning? Wang sees this as a result of a negative dynamic of customer mistreatment of employees that boils over into resentment of customers, as measured by a statistical analysis of how customer aggression results in corresponding employee aggression. This example illustrates the value of theory for managers. Although intuitively, the conclusion may seem 'obvious,' change is only likely to happen if it can be statistically demonstrated that a generalized phenomenon is affecting the company's bottom line. Applying theory to employer and customer behavior can frame a problem in an objective manner and also suggest potential solutions. Leaders apply theory to more effectively manage organizations and target their interventions so as to bring about real change.

Unlike autocratic leaders who are the sole decision makers, in democratic style of leadership, the leader involves the entire team in sharing responsibilities and in the decision-making process. Leaders assign responsibilities and give full control to the team to complete the task, while being there for assistance if needed. Leader encourages feedback from his team and motivates them to share their ideas.
