The Lighthouse Water Company Tina M. Abriani BUS/211 July 27, 2015 Bruce Bowring The Lighthouse Water Company The Lighthouse Water Company is owned and operated by a husband and wife team. Together they have formed this LLC (limited liability company). This choice of business organization is a state structure that affords the owners protection for their personal assets as well as some personal liability protection. (Investopedia, n.d.). This company must strictly follow state and federal laws and regulations for water treatment to ensure that the water being delivered to customers is safe and clean. People can become sick or slowly poisoned, especially by a high arsenic or fluoride content, if water is not treated properly. Due to mining …show more content…
They are respectful of one another and promote communication between themselves and their customers. Fair dealing and shared responsibility have unified them in their efforts to create a great company that provides excellent customer service. These attributes, their integrity and commitment to quality and safety will serve their customers well. The mission statement hangs alongside the annual water quality reports, business license, and insurance certificate, for the public to view. The Lighthouse Water Company’s owners are driven by forces found in the Maslow’s needs hierarchy theory which is, “A theory that specifies why and how people try to satisfy their needs through their behaviors at work.” (Jones, 2007, p. 211). The goal is to attain self-fulfillment, and they have had that through the journey of forming their company. They continue to strive to make their company better and do the best they can in all their …show more content…
These are, “recruitment and selection; training and development; performance appraisal and feedback; pay and benefits; and labor relations.” (Jones, 2007, p. 401). Since Lighthouse Water Company is operated solely by the owners, recruitment and selection is not required, yet. Training and development are a continuing effort in this company. To keep up with industry changes, regulations, laws, technology, and for up to date information on computer technology, just to name a few, education is a regular part of the business. The owners hold weekly status meetings, at which time they talk about how they might be able to work together better, communicate more effectively, and provide the service more efficiently. The profits received are divided between the owners and the company. The owners share a bank account and the benefits of owning their own company. There will be no mediator available to handle labor relations, so the owners will need to continue to work together
According to Maslow’s Needs theory, based on the fact that a person is justified as long as he still has not reached a certain level of satisfaction, has a better understanding of the fact that human motivation leads to a broad spectrum of their needs we could say that in order to motivate people, the manager has to give employees the opportunity to meet the needs in a way that together lead to the organization's objectives.
Maslow’s hierarchy is used within organisations by employers as their employees have basic human needs and a right to strive for self-actualisation. Successful organisations will be ones who care, understand, encourage and enable personal growth towards their employees.
Abraham Maslow developed the theory of human motivation called Hierarchy of Needs. It suggested that people need to be satisfied by all physiological needs before move on other high-order needs. I learned this concept in my secondary school which introduced how Hierarchy of Needs can be used in business management. At that moment, I can’t realize how this concept can be applied to manage people in companies, since I was student. It was difficult for me to imagine how this theory can be practically applied in the business world. When I study Consumer Behavior in this master course, it arouses my interest to understand that this theory can be applied to interpreting how consumer goods and
Although with all this information on the benefits of treating public water there is still information that is overlooked by governments. Fluoride is a pollutant, insecticide, poison, and a byproduct of fertilizer, nuclear power plants, and metal processing. Fluoride is also found in many processed goods, dental hygiene products, and pharmaceuticals meaning the average person’s intake is most likely far greater than the recommended levels. In the 1930s they were looking for an easy way to dispose of the toxic byproduct. During this time period one of the largest aluminum companies funded a test to determine how bad or good fluoride actually was to the people, this is when it was first deemed as a beneficial treatment. To me it seems kind of fishy that a company more worried about public relations and how to dispose of the toxic byproduct was trusted to carry out the testing themselves. This thinking came from the era where it was thought that smoking cigarettes would
Maslow's hierarchy of needs provides a foundational theory. It states that all employees have some basic needs that must first be satisfied in order to provide the framework for further motivation and empowerment.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs was introduced in the mid-1940’s by Abraham Maslow; it is one of the most popular theories of work motivation to this day. the theory was originally used specifically in a psychological setting, but was made more popular by Douglas McGregor in the late 1960’s and began to be used by not only psychologists but managers as well (Steers & Porter, 1983). The hierarchy is based on the fact that human beings have needs, Maslow took these needs and separated them into five categories: physiological needs, safety, belongingness or social needs,
Abraham Maslow is a psychologist who had developed the Hierarchy of needs model in 1940-50s, and the Hierarchy needs theory is still being used to day and for understanding the human motivation. In his hierarchy he believes that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. And when a human had fulfilled a person would seek to fulfil the next one. Maslow’s hierarchy needs is concerning the responsibility of service providers to provide a
The issue is that people can't drink this water because the governor stopped doing the same process of cleaning the water . He wanted to save money and because of this he forgot to add a major chemical in the water. People had concerns about this water but the governor really didn't pay no mind to them , he just told them don't worry the water is safe keep drinking it not knowing

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must feel accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult needs. The esteem level on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and respect. After the other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a prominent role in motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in their organisation by achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and abilities. The top need desired by such employees is self-actualisation. Maslow himself said;
Patagonia Inc. has satisfied Maslow’s Five Levels of Hierarchy Needs. The employees’ physiological needs of having food, water, and shelter for themselves and their families are met because their security needs are also being addressed by the company such as security of tenure, physical safety, and health safety, among others. These are benefits that employees are able to enjoy with their families. Their social needs are also met because the company offers many opportunities for employees to feel a sense of belongingness and acceptance through social interactions employees have with one another. Activities such as surfing, skiing, fishing, hiking, and drinking, are just among the many activities employees enjoy, which employees from different companies may find difficult to comprehend. However, Patagonia employees recognize that these kinds of activities and deconstructions are what pave the way for many of them to be more creative at work. Employees’ esteem needs are also addressed because employees know that the company respects them and recognizes their efforts, which is the reason for the unconventional benefits and work methods introduced in the company. The last stage is the realization of self-actualization needs, which is also being experienced by some, probably not all, employees in Patagonia. These are those who have a deep appreciation of life experiences especially that the company provides them opportunities to be of help to others and to the environment.
The Waterview is a snack bar located on a full season resort in the Muskoka District. The resort had made multiple changes of ownership in recent years and the present owners are attempting to restore the resorts highly regarded reputation. The resort had suffered from the deterioration of quality and service that led to the loss of loyal customers due to staff not meeting the high expectations of their patrons. Currently there is a poor working relationship between Rebecca Boddington, the newly promoted assistant operations manager and Michael Welland, a long time summer employee, who had been promised a supervisory position. Additionally, Boddingtons manager Mark Humphries the corporate operations and sales manager spends very
As Douglas McGregor began working on his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, he encountered Abraham Maslow’s theory. Maslow believed that people had 5 basic ascending needs. It was this theory that not only supported McGregor’s thinking about a hierarchy of motivation, but it also provided a strong theoretical foundation for his assumptions (Bobic, 2003). With a firm foundation McGregor shared his theory with the world, and his theory has had a lasting impact on management theory.
