The poem is strongly based around the unconditional love the author feels towards what she believes is the greatest and most loving husband in the world. Throughout the poem she tries to find as many different ways she can to describe her undying love for her husband. Towards the end of the poem she concludes with ‘we may live forever’. With this phrase she is trying to convey that her love for her husband is everlasting and therefore their love will continue even when they die. Another great poem about love; written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning is ‘How do I love thee?’ This poems shares extreme similarities with the first as they are both sonnets written by women towards a man which is unusual in its own right- as sonnets were usually pieces written by men to woo a woman over. The general plot basically talks of the same thing as the first poem in the way that the writer brushes over different ways of describing her love for her husband and yet again concludes with her saying how her love will go beyond death with the line ‘I shall love thee better after death. Death is the major speaker of this poem, its persona shows how cruel and violent it can be, however she also speaks of getting everything out of life you can before death. Starting with line twenty three of the poem she begins talking about living a full life before death, "When it 's over, I want to say all my life/I was a bride married to amazement/I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms." In the beginning, the boat this girl is in is being is tossed on the sea, and comparing this to her restless feelings of being forced to be with this man that she does not want to be with. In the next stanza, she described the she found that her brothers “were angry with [her]” (Book of Songs). This girl clearly feels that her brothers are not at her defense as she does not believe that she should be forced to marry a man of her choice. It also shows that she may potentially be doing something that is going against their family beliefs, as her entire family is angry at her. There is a clear sad mood in this first song because she expresses that she would rather be with someone much more desirable, and that she is not fond of this chosen person. In the first stanza, she clearly express that she loves this man, but she tells him not “break the windows [they] planted” or else her family will be angry. This means that her family is more important than her lover, as she prevents her lover from entering because she does not want to anger her family. Her tone throughout the poem makes it sound like she is going through a lot; she is not happy and she is very hurt. The way she uses the type of specific words in her writing that gives you that type of idea and imagination. A specific word that she uses throughout her poem is Dreary. Dreary is defined as dull, sad, boring and/or sorrowful. That key word now makes sense and relates a lot to the tone throughout the poem. I find the sentiments to be ambiguous, as well. While my first instinct was that it’s a woman speaking about her lover/partner, that’s not concrete, either. When speaking of a relationship with such conflicting feelings of intimacy, love, or closeness (whatever one’s take on the poem is), that isn’t only found between lovers. It’s can also be had in the occasionally damaging love/hate relationships that can occur between adult children and parents, as well as other intimate relationships.

What makes this text so important and remembered is that it provides the voice of a woman, which is extremely rare for this time. These two works are both poems, the first (Poem A) having a regular rhyming pattern and the second (Poem B) with no apparent rhyme. In both cases there are deep cultural assumptions about the gender of the author. In Poem A the speaker seems to be a woman, since it is the daughter who goes back to her parents' house and takes care of them, whereas in Poem B the author is a man, because it is assumed that it is the man who goes away and then calls home.

The poem “The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter” author Li Po has shown this phenomenal story about a wife waiting for the return of her husband. It starts the livelihood of a wife being stubborn in the first year of marriage, however, regrets spending quality time with her husband. Eventually, time has gone by so fast resulting the husband to leave on a long journey. Throughout the absence of the husband, the wife is felt depressed or lonely without having him right by her side. Po has left the story open minded for readers to think what would happen next, hence inspiring many others who have felt the same as the wife did. As you may know by now, the theme that portrays this poem is a sense of depression and loneliness. Not only it illustrates the feeling of being unattached, but it also shows the importance of valuing time. The interpretation of being alone in my words means that only one person in your life is the only one to cure your lonesome. For this reason, the state of being isolated or depressed has done a lot to her, time is a cherishable moment, and the femininity of the poem was written by a guy.

Li Qingzhao, born in 1084 in Zhangqiu, China, during the Song Dynasty, is regarded as China’s greatest woman poet. Born to a mother whose grandfather worked as a prime minister and a father who was a notable prose writer and professor, Li was fortunate enough to become an educated woman, and had the opportunity from a young age to experiment with and forge her poetic identity through her own drafting of ci (lyrical) and shi (traditional) poems. Li was also able to compare these poems with those written by friends of her father, which was considered very bold for a woman to do during a time in China when most women were uneducated and expected to be mere housekeepers. Naturally, Li also used her poetry as a means of expressing her emotions, through which she often reflected upon her feelings of her marriage to husband Zhao Mingcheng and her life as a whole. Through the poems included in Li Ch’ing-Chao Complete Poems by Kenneth Rexroth and Ling Chung, one can clearly see the changes in Li Qingzhao’s emotional state, namely throughout her youth, her time apart from her husband, and after her husband’s death.

It seems that the parents had little appreciation for their daughter’s achievements and doings all this while. The mother only wish to see her being her mother’s pride and joy, while in his father’s dream, she is the one who will help the family, maybe even being the provider for the family. This is a burden being carried by the girl that made her worked very hard. In conclusion, the moral of this poem to me is to speak up for what you believe in despite if you have an army standing behind you or you conquer the situation on your own.
