Jose Goncalves Professor Neneh Kowai-Bell PSYC 2301 11.25.2015 Do you have any long-term goals? My name is Jose Goncalves. As almost everyone, I also have long-term goals. I look at my education as a primary goal. This was the major reason that brought me to the U.S. I have 4 years left , and I will do the impossible in order to achieve my target. What does it mean to have a good life? It depends on your values. For some it just means living a happy life, having a nice family, and just enjoying life. Others think of a good life as being successful and rich yet everyone has there own opinion. It just depends on someone´s values. I personally believe that having a good life means building a life by the side of your spouse and children.
In my community, I volunteer immensely with the 4-H and FFA youth in Pima County and Arizona. I am a cavy judge at local shows throughout the year, as well as a certified shooting sports leader to teach 4-H members safe shooting techniques with rifles. I was also given the opportunity to volunteer with Future Farmer of America student members through my sorority, Sigma Alpha. I will be volunteering with the Meat Evaluation CDE at the State CDE Day, and have applied to be a Camp Counselor at the Arizona State FFA Camp held at Camp Shadow Pines in Herber, Arizona in June. Volunteering with youth involved in agriculture has allowed me to give back to a community that gave me so much during my youth. 4-H transformed me into the young woman I am
Everyone desires to live a good life and people are always searching for ways to do so. In my case, by moving to the United States, I now have the opportunity to live a good life, but my definition differs from everyone else’s. I believe that living a good life means getting a good education, working hard, family support, willing to adapt new environment, having a leader, and becoming a self-made individual.
I believe the definition of a good life can be described in three simple words, freedom, love, and happiness. Freedom: we should be able to choose where we live, work and what we do with our lives. Love: everyone should know what it feels
So overall, to me the good life encompasses all of these previously mentioned things as well as spending countless hours surrounded by family and friends talking and laughing. I think the good life means working hard for what you’re passionate about and not just trying to please others. I think it also includes learning to be independent and finding the comfort in loneliness, unknown, and unrest and truly learning how to find peace in Christ during those times. As I continue through life, I hope to seek hard after Christ and be confident that he will never fail to lead me to what is best for me and what will bring the most glory to His
Organizations, groups, churches, etc. all have a vision and mission. As a graduate student, I have come up with a vision and mission statement that are motivational in my success. My vision as a MHA student in graduate education at Belhaven University is to remain curious, creative and a thinker who will remain courageous as I develop the servant leadership knowledge offered, that will allow me the opportunity to be a valuable Healthcare leader who can work both independently and collaboratively. I will face many challenges with an open mind and seek answers and ways to improve the changing arena of Health Care. As a graduate student I would like to expand my knowledge and my discovery of the health
I know that the sky is the limit when it comes to nursing fields but I have a sincere interest in mental health. I thoroughly enjoyed my clinical day at the Pavilion although I did recognize that the Nurses spend a lot of time charting which depleted my interest a bit. However, I do know that you can work in other settings I can work in especially if I continue my education to a master’s or doctoral level. Becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (PMH-APRN) would allow me to prescribe certain medications (depending on the state’s law I live in) and administering psychotherapy. (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015) However, these are potential long-term goals! Let’s talk about short-term.
By the end of my senior year, my main priority, like any other senior, is to wear my cap and gown, walk across the stage, and receive my high school diploma. To accomplish this goal, I must continue excelling in school with all A’s and maintaining my diligent study skills. I also need to take as many dual enrollment courses at Clayton State University as possible in order to shorten my time in college. After graduating, the next leading goal is to get accepted into either Emory University or University of Georgia, but preferably Emory. Should Emory accept me, then I definitely need to apply to and receive scholarships like Gates Millennium and Zell Miller, for example. In addition, I desire to preserve my current rank as the salutatorian. Perhaps if I persevere more, then I could possibly graduate as the valedictorian. To do this, I can always study harder and receive tutoring about topics I do not completely comprehend. Also, somewhere along the lines, I hope that can obtain a job as a
A long term goal is a goal that you wish to accomplish in the future. Long term goals require time, planning, dedication, and rescilience. Having a long term goal is important for a successful career in the future. One of my long term goals is to become a prosperous private practice lawyer. This is important to me because it will show my siblings and other minority children that no matter the circumstance or pressure put on them by society anything is possible. They can be successful.
Recently in a moment of personal reflection, I thought to myself, I have a strong passion and desire to live a life dedicated to helping other people. Conversely, I always wanted to play a larger role in helping people. I took pride in learning new experiences throughout my employment history. One of my short term professional goals is to become a leader with an executive position at a department in one of the top New York State Hospitals. Through my years as a front line staff member, I understood how it feels to have low employee morale. I understood what it was like to feel that the administration does not understand the everyday stress that their staff face. My experience would only advance my leadership skills. I am open to listen to
Discuss your short and long-term goals. Are some of them related? Which are priorities? Be specific in describing short and long-term goals you may have. Provide examples from any aspect of your life. In addition, if you have already accomplished some short or long-term goals you set for yourself in the past, you can discuss them
In the past, I have volunteered with a variety of organizations such as Rebuild Joplin Head Start, as well as local nursing homes. Volunteering locally has allowed me to see and understand the prevalence of large-scale problems existing within my own community and has encouraged me to want to solve local issues as a route towards my career in nonprofit work. For instance, with the Cross-Generational Sharing program I worked to develop, the Nursing Home Law Center came out with a statistic stating that over 50% of senior nursing home residents do not have family support and may never have someone visit them. As a result, I wanted to provide the residents with a communication outlet they might enjoy, as well as encourage activities where students could build relationships with the residents. Seeing the smiles the smiles volunteers could bring to their lives showed me the difference one can make when bringing volunteers together and working towards a common goal.
In my near future, I am leaning towards attending the University of Indianapolis mainly because of the strong DPT program they offer to their students. I have been accepted and have had the honor of being a direct admission into the DPT program offered at the University of Indianapolis. I found my career choice with my mixture of strong academic and athletic performances. I have plenty of first person accounts of rehabilitation to muscles and bones from sports injuries, and I have become curious about other types of injuries that a physical therapist would encounter outside of sports injuries. At the University of Indianapolis, I plan on majoring in Biology and excelling in all my courses, especially my prerequisites.
My short-term goal is to use the knowledge and experiences I have acquired as an undergraduate, coupled with the competitive coursework of the biology department as a catalyst for positive change. My long-term goal is to direct a multicultural health program that assists low-income communities in becoming more knowledgeable of their healthcare options. I think that as an aspiring physician practicing osteopathic medicine, I would be in the position to positively impact socioeconomically disadvantaged communities.
Based on the number of books and articles written about discovering lifetime goals, it appears that determining and setting goals must be difficult for most people – but it’s not difficult for me. My lifetime goals are to improve the well-being, quality of life, and happiness for my family, my fellow human beings, and myself. I want to realize the goals of lifelong learning and growth. I want to avoid debt and poverty, and to continue to be a productive member of society. My lifetime goals are broad and lofty, but to reach them takes goal setting on a smaller scale. I’ve set and achieved specific goals that have led me to my present goal: attending the University of Texas at Austin and graduating with a degree that will move me further toward
My short term goals are pretty simple. I want to maintain a superb grade point average, not only in high school but in the rest of my education also. One way I plan to do this is always work strenuously. Which can be difficult at times, so hopefully I won't need to worry about other aspects in my life such as finances. Graduating on time is another one of my goals. This is so important, so I can start the next chapter on my life. I will be applying for scholarships so I can get the most help possible, and I hope to receive many. Along with this, I plan to save up money from working at Pleasantview Nursing Home and Dana’s Dance Studio, both in Kalona, Iowa. In these two short term jobs, impacting people is important to me. I love helping the
