This movie poster uses two different shot types: low angle shot and canted angle. Low angle shot makes the characters seem powerful and influential, while making themselves feel small and weak. Suggesting that the world is shaking and falling apart, the camera angle is slightly tilted.
There are lots of signifiers and signified in the poster. Flames are often associated with fight, war, and destruction. There is a colour scheme of yellow, red, and black; red symbolises aggressiveness, anger, and fight, while black symbolises power, strength, rebellion, and authority. In addition to that, the guns being held by the two characters are often signified with war, fight, or broken peace. From the signifiers and signified, it is suggested that the movie is mostly about a war or a rebellion between the two characters and someone else. Usually, women are characterised as being weak, dependent, and feminine by wearing pink clothes or dress. However, it is interesting how the woman is characterised as a strong, powerful, and masculine being. She

It also makes the audience to be curious about the relationship between the two characters and influence them to watch the film as she is holding a robot’s head, which indicates that she is fighting against them. Grabbing the audience’s attention the most and suggesting that they are the main characters, they are standing in the middle of the poster. What appears to be the Golden Gate Bridge is in the background, giving the audience a clear evidence that the film takes place in the United States. There is also a flag of the United States fading away. As the United State is often associated with power and stability, lost power and stability of the world is suggested in the plot. This is also why lots of natural disaster movies - such as The Day After Tomorrow, Cloverfield, and Godzilla - portray damaged Statue of Liberty to symbolise the
The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the two main characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high angles to illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of view shots to show the imbalance during Ben’s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an oblique angle to show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high contrast with streaks of blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur.
Low angle shot, where a camera points upwards from below, generally make people or things look bigger, more courageous and important. However, same angle shots sometimes will be chosen to emphasize different effects in one film. In the movie “Night of the Living Dead,” the director George A. Romero uses low angles for different purposes.
The signs of the time are also shown through the use of specific camera shots, which humble the characters and show their frailty. Long Shots, in particular, are used to exemplify the smallness of the characters (without power) in the vastness of the world around them. In the scene in which the
Its vibrant blue color puts the viewer at ease, making the painting appear to be a tranquil and peaceful scene. As the observer’s eyes drift downward, they see the chaos as the Texans slowly lose the battle. At the top of the left building, a Mexican flag flutters in the wind, and to the right, another Mexican flag raises as the Texas flag is tossed to the ground. Through all this, at the bottom of the painting, hope is still shown: the Texans will not give up. Patriotism is shown as although they are outnumbered and their flag is lowered, they are still fighting. On the right side, it shows a man much larger than the others, shooting a man holding a Mexican flag. This figure represents patriotism in the physical form, and the observer can assume this man is an important figure in the battle of the
I assume that people usually see art such as murals like this one without thinking what it really stands for and the purpose it has. In this mural people could see it as a mural with animals and the statue of liberty; nothing more and nothing less. I mean basically it is pretty much that but the way it is displayed on the wall it tends to go with the flow. What I mean by this is that each detail in the mural connects with each other in terms of portraying the message straight forward. Okay well the scene begins on the right side where it displays butterflies flying around a person most likely a Native American woman. Then the bigger picture opens up on the feathers the lady is wearing on her head. The bigger picture starts with historic extinct animals such as the wooly mammoths roaming on the land and Pterodactyls flying on the sky with a clear direction to where they are going. Then the eagle appears on the left side flying towards the Statue of Liberty where the clouds transition to the Statue of Liberty’s hair. The statue is faced towards the left side with a big yellow ball behind her head which is most likely the moon. Then the Statue of Liberty’s hair transitions into waves where right next to it are whales swimming in the
In fact, most of them are unidentified and the reader may not identify a specific person that speaks in the different chapters. Thus, the audience may understand it is an embodiment of females focusing on structuring the major theme of the book, which is gender inequality. Additionally, the description of the female characters is equivocal such that the reader has to picture the image of the women. Although the author provides various photos in the book, there is absence of an explanation. Before this, the writer only concentrates on telling the story (Kim,165). Additionally, the author uses poetic approach to explain the setting in the book, which gives the novel distinct styles of writing. In fact, the poems are only meant to provide the reader with a description of the mothers and daughters, and this creates a distinction in the narrative. Resultantly, the audience perceives that when a poem appears in the reading, the author is probably narrating the plight of women. Notwithstanding, the novel uses visual art technique to communicate to the audience. in many instances, the author does not provide a description of an individual such that the reader has to imagine the person. In doing so, the readers are in suspense but the author offers a drawing that may be used to demystify the situation. in support of this style, it is apparent that the visual art may have
Fire is one of man’s oldest tools, and Bradbury’s use of it as a symbol can be viewed in many different ways. Another use of symbolism is his use of the Salamander and Phoenix to resemble their iconic fire trucks, and the emblems on their uniforms. Bradbury starts off using the symbolism of fire, the Phoenix and the Salamander to demonstrate power and destruction, however; throughout the story the original meaning of these symbols begins to transform much like the protagonist Guy Montag, and eventually other symbols like the sieve and the river shed light on the transformation of Montag. All of these symbols come together with the use of allegory to bring an understanding of the larger issues faced by their society, such as the overuse of technology and censorship.
The theme of this art is liberty. It was designed by Eastman Johnson on 2nd march, 1962. It is located at Brooklyn museum. This art demonstrate the journey of America to freedom. Americans love for freedom was represented by the liberty poles. The art shows the idea of Americans attempting to occupy a more prominent place in public and private discourse in the United States (Walker,
Although this illustration has no reference to the novel, it is the picture that I chose to use, depicting the woman and her way of getting what she wants. As the audience, I have control over what I am reading and can express myself in any way that I would like, without having to worry about what society thinks of my views and opinions.
In The House On Mango Street, the metaphor of the “[red] balloon tied to an anchor” (Cisneros, 9) helps reveal the theme of how societal expectations limit women. Cisneros uses red as the balloon’s color to indicate sexuality as in the “Red Clowns” chapter and the “red lips” (88) of the femme fatale in the chapter “Beautiful & Cruel”. She also uses the anchor to symbolize the double standard and the objectification of women. The anchoring of the red balloon represents the oppression of women’s sexuality because the anchor keeps the balloon from being free. The red balloon floats, but it can not fly. In a similar way, the double standard and objectification keeps women from being free. Women on Mango Street are able to express their sexuality to a certain degree, like a floating balloon, but they face abuse and judgement. The judgement and objectification keeps women from expressing themselves, acting like an anchor. Cisneros also expresses this idea through the act of wearing heels. When the girls wear the heels, they feel more feminine and excited, claiming that they’ll “never go
In the opening chapter, there is an immediate foreshadowing of feminism in the novel and what the story is about, “Ships at a distance have every man’s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men.
The symbolic meaning of fire is demonstrated throughout the book in many different fashions but mainly it is portrayed as a symbol of life and social order. If
By doing so, the audience can feel sympathy, drama, and suspense throughout the film. A good example of a low angle shot is when District Ten is listening to the organizer of the games. When he is picking tribunes, the angle of the camera is down which displays that the tribunes are inferior to the organizer. The different types of shots also bring attention to something the director wants the audience to focus on. Along with informing the viewers of something from the character’s view point. A majority of the film is shot in subjective view, giving the audience an extension of Katniss and seeing what she is seeing. Although this is the case, there are objective shots to show the viewers the computer generated special effects in the film. It is also noticeable that the editing used helped capture the concept of social class in this film.
What is a photograph? The simplicity of taking a photograph leads many to ponder its artistic value. Yet, it is undeniable that there are some photos that cause an emotional reaction deeper than simply observing a recorded point in time. Surely, there are photographs that cause more reaction than some modern art pieces. There seems to be two types of photographs. The first classification is the ‘time capture’ photo – an image with the sole purpose of recording a particular event or point in time. The second nature of a photo carries a ‘deeper meaning,’ which has the ability to change the observer’s mood and cause a reaction. But what distinguishes these two varieties? There are a
Traditional gender roles of men and women are associated with Lily’s painting. In the novel, men are portrayed as tough, smart, and rational. For example, Mr. Ramsey is described as being “lean as a knife, narrow as the blade of one...” (Woolf 8). Women, on the other hand, are portrayed as caring and gentle, caring for their families. Mrs. Ramsay is a
