• Personal Situations – either my own or that of my colleagues
Ultimately these factors would result in my behaviour being that of an affiliative and democratic style of leadership. It is also possible that a coaching style my also become apparent, where the factor is that of a personal situation.

Referring to the Hay McBer and Goleman model, it is apparent that I sway very much towards affiliative and democratic styles of leadership. However from reviewing my recent behaviour, I am also inclined towards a coaching style, especially when the situation is that of a personal nature.
As a potential team leader it is possible that I may adopt more of an authoritative style especially when implementing working practices and achieving goals and objectives. Although this style can lower staff morale in the short term it has been proven within our business to gain long term results.
Upon asking my General Manager/Director to assess my leadership style, he made the following comments:
‘XXXX is very much in the affiliative style of leadership. Sometimes she will put peoples’ feelings first, putting their feelings ahead of the task in hand for fear of causing conflict. I feel that sometimes XXXX needs to move away from that style of leadership and progress more into a democratic and authoritative style. XXXX will know what needs to be done or changed but will refrain from putting the idea or solution forward in fear of upsetting her colleagues. Although when XXXX does move into the democratic space she can be very persuasive at getting team buy in and can be open to other team member ideas and suggested solutions.’

My leadership style is about how I treat under me with respect, approachable and willing to listen with different suggestions in decision making. I want to have a cooperative teamwork, little supervision, and motivation with professionalism. There is always room for training in developing skills and expertise and encouragement to go above and beyond.
My leadership style is both Participative and Delegative, which means as a leader I value and take into considerations the opinions and suggestions of my group but still makes the final decision, but also sometimes in some occasion or circumstances I allow the group members to conclude and make the decision themselves. Being both participative and delegative leader it only means that I can adjust to different situations, which I can strongly impose my decisions and at the same time recognize and value the opinion of others when circumstance calls for it.
A1. Leadership Style Upon conducting research, it is clear that the definition of “leadership” is not agreed upon. It is fluid, based upon many perceptions, situations, and surroundings. According to Robinson (2010), adopting a specific style of leadership is rather futile as it is, “contingent on the personal traits of the leader, the people being led, and the nature of the activity.” Tools are available to help guide potential leaders in determining a preferred style of leadership. For example, utilizing the “Leadership Self-Assessment

There are a number of factors that will influence the style of leadership a leader may choose, such as:
Before this lecture and assignment I never gave it thought about different leadership styles and what type I have or will deal with in the past, present, and future. This paper also gave me chance to break down how I’m a different leader depending on what situation I’m put in. As of right now it would be difficult trying to put my leadership style because I’m always in different positon that allow be that to specific leader. Right now I’m in a great position that allow me to lead other in the direction that benefit them and the
My leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in my 12 years of experiences in the Army. As a leader, I believe in being accessible and mentoring subordinates. I recognize success and work hard to assist my subordinates in overcoming their difficulties in performance. I welcome feedback sessions to remain flexible and open to change. This sets up the group to be very productive and adaptable and can be incorporated at all levels of any organization.
The threads of my leadership style have been influenced by my personal work experience and my time in practicum. Throughout my experiences I have been exposed to many different types of personal and corporate styles of leadership that I have been able to evaluate and reflect on to judge their effectiveness and take away key concepts that I have applied to my own leadership style. Chief among these is understanding the concept that over reaching change and improvement is a team effort that requires being open to input from all different members of the health care team. My personal philosophy of leader ship is heavily influenced by my bird type which is a dove. Doves tend to be natural team players that like to collaborate and work as a team towards a goal.
During my examination of the various types of leadership styles, I was able to take a few assessments online. There were two that stood out the most for me which, were The Type A and B personality indicator and the Hemisphere Dominance Personality Assessment. I found that the style that these two assessments closely matched my own style.
The contents and assignment in this course has helped me understand the various theories of leadership and how different leadership styles can have a negative or positive effect on followers and organizations. The leadership theories helped me understand the concept of leadership better because it educates me on the different leadership options that are available. Leadership and followership is not based on specific characteristics. Leaders must draw from things and approaches to find the right style. A follower’s attitude determines the way a leader leads. According to Johnson (2011) “Being a good follower means ensuring your boss is supported, but only if he is making optimum decisions”.
I look at myself and I see an individual who wants to help others succeed. Understanding that helping other is my main goal will allow me to analyze what kind of leader I want to become. Knowing when a person needs coaching and when a person needs me to take a step away will be a key aspect to my leadership style. I want the people I am leading to feel confident with the task, but also comfortable enough they can ask for help if they need any assistance. Having a caring response to each problem will allow me to act rationally and take the best course of action. I will motivate others by allowing them to buy into my philosophy of helping others and always giving 100% of my effort.
The University of the Arts London is a culturally rich and diverse workplace. This diversity has an impact on the choice of leadership styles and behaviours a manager should adopt in the workplace but there are also other factors that come into play.
The Affiliative Style. “If the coercive leader demands, "Do what I say," and the authoritative urges, "Come with me," the affiliative leader says, "People come first." This leadership style revolves around people-its proponent’s value individuals and their emotions more than tasks and goals. The affiliative leader strives to keep employees happy and to create harmony among them. He manages by building strong emotional bonds and then reaping the benefits of such an approach, namely fierce loyalty. The style also has a markedly positive effect on communication. People who like one another a lot talk a lot. They share ideas; they share inspiration. And the style drives up flexibility; friends trust one another, allowing habitual innovation and risk taking. Flexibility also rises because the
Leadership styles vary amongst every person in a leadership role. Styles may be categorized as authoritarian, procedural, transformational, participative and laissez-fair. Following an assessment of my own leadership style (How to find your style of leadership, 2016) it appears that my style of leadership is characterized as laissez-faire. I’m a leader who is not formally recognized but rather involves the entire team and makes informed decisions based on group ideas, discussions and team decisions. The amount of control I typically have is low and I expect my team to contribute ideas and decisions but ultimately, I am responsible for the final decisions and the success or failure.
Leadership style is usually viewed as relatively stable patterns of behavior that are represented by leaders. In the circumstance of leadership, agentic and communal features seem especially relevant. For example, agentic features such as independent, dominant and competitive are more attached to men than to women. While communal features such as helpful, kind, gentle, sympathetic and personal sensitive are strongly occupied by women than men (Eagly, 2003). In addition, according to Eagly and Johannesen-Schmidt
