I am doing the response on the practicum speaker for today (11/17/17) Matthew Vroman. He graduated from Bradley University in 2012 and went to L.A. and became a Technical Designer for an indie game studio known as F84 and for the most in the beginning part his days consisted of coding, designing, as well as dealing with other tasks such as meetings and customers. One thing that he spoke about the resonated and related with me was when he talked about his day in the life of Matthew Vroman. He talked about what his current tasks are after working with F84 games for the past five years compared to what his tasks were when he first started out. How he went from a less that managerial position and doing more “grunt” work too, after five years, being
Jeffrey Smart was an artist with exemplary vision and intense productivity throughout his career. Smart was a master of painting urban landscapes and industrial wastelands with “precise attention to clean lines, composition and geometry” (Pearce, 2012). In the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless takes a wild journey. Although some believe that his journey and thought process was noble and courageous, he was actually extremely fatuous throughout his journey. Many people that Chris met along the way made remarkable attempts at making him aware of the dangers that he would surely face in Alaska. Chris McCandless knowingly stepped into the treacherous wild without being prepared for what reality would throw his way.
3. To what extent does his job satisfy his needs? What is the role of work in his total life?
“Artists today explore ideas, concepts, questions, and practices that examine the past, describe the present, or imagine the future.” Contemporary artists use a dynamic combination of media and technologies, methods, concepts, and subjects to create works that reflects The Human Condition in modern culture and society. Three contemporary artworks that utilise these artistic practices to express The Human Condition are Michael Parekowhai, Tracey Moffatt and Vernon Ah Kee. Each artist has used artistic devices to express the contemporary significance of The Human Condition by creating works that reflect back to their own experience and the history of their nationality.
Nick Gillespie article, “Millennials Are Selfish and Entitled, and Helicopter Parents Are to Blame”(2014), asserts that as the title states, that children are the newest generation of children are the way they are due to an overly involved parent generation. Gillespie backs up this claim through his use of statistics. These statistics demonstrate the restrictions on children in today’s time period. Gillespie’s purpose is to point out the way helicopter parents are being overbearing and alert the reader to problems that they may be unaware of. Next, Gillespie discusses the nature of how children are acting and the fact that consumption of violence, and other forms allotted to previous generations has been cut off with little to no effect in
In the book Into the Wild the main character, Chris Mccandless, made a rational decision to exclude himself from human society because he believed that going beyond what his parents and society wanted he would live a happier life. Chris wanted to leave society and venture into the wilderness to find the true meaning of who he was. Chris Mccandless was neither crazy or ignorant to live off in the wild where there was no people or anything to interact with but nature. Chris wanted to find his inner self and not only was he a role model for kids all across the country but he also followed his dream. Even though it was selfish of him to leave his family, Chris Mccandless is not crazy because he followed his dream, lived his life the way he wanted to, and went into the wild to find who he truly was.
In the war, it often thought that soldiers, go to a country to keep peace in that part of the world. Unfortunately that is not always the case;during these tours ,soldiers die everyday from cultural violence, and misguided information by their superiors and in this story that has occurred. Jimmy Cross is characterized as a man who is filled with emotion and the loss of one of his men. “Cross carried a compass, maps,...He carried a strobe light and the responsibility for the lives of his men.” (Tim O’Brien pg. 4) Cross felt directly responsible for his men. Death lead Cross to the realization of who Cross truly is, and who he will become. Jimmy Cross has to find himself one way or another, when he is ready to face the truth is completely up to
This was by far the most challenging course that I have encountered while obtaining my Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from UCMO. That is not a negative comment as this course has actually impacted me professionally more than any other course I’ve taken to date. This course has taken more time to complete the assignments, more of my attention to detail, and more of my creativity. The last point was the best part about this course. I consider myself to be fairly creative and this course definitely allowed me to do that while bringing my somewhat odd personality to a professional forum. For this I am grateful. Let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?
This reading illustrates a decision made by New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) that give the citizens diabetes diagnoses to help them control their health. The author Jeffrey A. Bennett mainly discussed the tension between public intervention and personal privacy advocates.
In this article presented by theglobeandmail.com, Nathan Vanderklippe explains the controversial decision if North Korean skater, Jong Kwang Bom, deliberately tried to trip Japan’s skater, Keita Watanabe. At the start of the short track skating race, Kwang Bom dug his front toe too far into the ice below him and started to fall. As he was falling, it looked as if he tried to sweep Watanabe’s left leg with his right arm. Kwang Bom’s right arm had hit Watanabe’s heel and had caused him to stumble until he caught himself. When he fell, it didn’t look intentional until the internet got hold of the footage and started the controversy. Watanabe openly said that he thought the tripping was unintentional and that he forgives Kwang Bom. Later in the olympics, Kwang Bom matched against Watanabe again and was disqualified for preventing him to pass by putting his arm on his chest as he took the inside track of a longer race.
Mr. Combs’ used the opportunity of giving the commencement speech to share his experiences, values and advice with the graduating class of 2014 and as well as to motivate them. He continuously addressed the audience asking them if they knew how powerful they were. He also alluded to experiences from his life when he did not give up even though he was in a bad place in order to convince the listeners never to give up when they encounter difficult situations. Mr. Combs’ also urged the listeners to stay true to themselves so they can become the next big mogul or build the next big legacy instead of attempting be like moguls who already exist or build legacies to similar to those in place. The main goal of Mr. Combs’ speech was not only to empower his audience, but to also get them to appreciate how powerful they already are because of their achievements. Mr. Comb’s organized his speech chronologically. The beginning of the speech included stories of his first experiences at Howard particularly his first day, in the middle of the speech he spoke about how he left Howard

Today in seminar we had one speaker. His presentation was not well organized. He did not have any visual aids and did not have an outline that he followed. His speech revolved around his audience and their questions they had for him. His name was Jon Loughran. Jon graduated Olivet in 2014 with a degree in business administration systems. Currently he works as a State Farm systems analyst. When he first started working for State Farm, he did a lot of scripting. He did not enjoy this very much so he wanted to move away from more of the technical side of things. He is currently setting up security and working with that. His job is very flexible. He can work in any part of the day. However, he must get all of his hours in which is 38 hours 45 minutes a week. While

Chris Mccandless was a man that many would call crazy or maybe even immoral. He left everything to live in the wild and become “one with nature”. He had determination, a strong mindset, fearlessness and courage. I believe that my life and the life of Chris Mccandless are not similar in any aspect. In fact I wish that my life was more like his and that I had the drive and determination to do what he did.
