For my mechanical modeling project I will be doing a bicycle bell. The reason I am doing a bicycle bell is because the mechanics are simple but will teach me a lot. To create the bell, I will use my knowledge of modeling actual objects to make gears and other parts including the axle, and actual screws attached to the gears. You can see the actual bell on the link above. This will challenge me to learn how to use constraints with the gears. My plan is to begin by setting my trigger in a circular 360 degree motion. I will then constrain its motion to solely around 30 degrees depending on what it actually calls for. Next I will create all the different gears needed, a couple of small gears, a couple of large gears. These gears will be attached

One of the most fun projects this year, building mousetrap racers. With this project, however, challenges arose. Attaching the wheels to the axles, for example, presented a major problem. The dowel used was .75 inch and was too large to fit in the center of the DVD. Using washers and bolts was thought of, but they proved to be too heavy. In the end, bottle caps and screws worked to secure the wheels to the axles. The bottle caps were wide enough that when fitted against the DVD they wouldn't go through the hole. Another challenge was placing the mouse trap as far from the drive axle as possible without impeding the car’s movement. So an arm extension on the mousetrap was not constructed so upon snapping it would not hit the front axle.
Just like a dexterous robotic hand that can grab objects by controlling individual fingers, this project has grabbed my attention. One of the reasons why I am so interested in your project is because of my desire to build prosthetics. Even though I have very little research experience, I have a strong desire to work for this project to learn more about biomechanics ranging from understanding the biology behind it, ranging from neuronal signals and muscle contractions, to actually understanding how we can design mechanical parts to perform the daily tasks in life such as lifting heavy objects and even writing.
