Cannabis is the most hated but yet very beneficial drug in the world. The United States has had strict laws against the use and distribution of marijuana since 1937. (The Union, Brett Harvey) Federal and state laws on medicinal marijuana are very different from each other. Cannabis has a lot of health benefits, this is the reason California was the first state to legalize it for medicinal purposes. (How weed won the west, Kevin Booth) People in America have been getting arrested for the use and possession of marijuana since it was outlawed. Charlie Lynch was one of those people in 2008. (Lynching Charlie Lynch, Rick Ray) I believe medical marijuana should be a legally taxed substance in the United States.

Legalization of marijuana should be legislated for medical use across the country. Marijuana does not have a potential good value that it should have, in the eyes of the government and the public. In reality it is actually natural and a effective medicine. The debate about medical marijuana is spreading like a virus across the country. Marijuana can be that one thing to clear off US 13 trillion debt as well as it can decrease crime rates and create more possibility of jobs for people who do not speak English language. Research shows that medical marijuana is bad for health and the government is in lack of manufacturing and handling the marijuana drug, classified as B class drug in the United States. It is legal in 20 states as medical marijuana use. Both the sides have valid argument but the pros out weigh cons by many reasons. Unlike other most legal tobacco products, medical marijuana is less harmful and has the capability to reduce the pain within diseased people.
“Studies in the early 1970s showed that marijuana, when smoked, lowered intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with normal pressure and those with glaucoma” (Welsh). Other illnesses marijuana helps would be epilepsy. For example, Robert J. DeLorenzo, of Virginia Commonwealth University, gave marijuana extract and synthetic marijuana to epileptic rats. The drugs rid the rats of the seizures for about 10 hours.(Welsh) Cannabinoids like the active ingredients in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC), control seizures by binding to the brain cells responsible for controlling excitability and regulating relaxation. It makes it one step closer to finding a cure, with more research and data. Some myths about marijuana are that people get addicted to it easily. The marijuana plant contains chemicals that can treat a wide range of illnesses. From Alzheimer’s to Crohn’s disease, from anorexia to multiple sclerosis, and from epilepsy to Tourette’s syndrome, this is but a few of the diseases that medical marijuana can help relieve or treat. It can also help stimulate a person’s appetite and can relieve nausea in AIDS and cancer patients. Before it was prohibited in the 1930’s, it was used in many types of medicines. A few of these medicines include
Today medicine is becoming more and more expensive and less natural as we advance in the medical industry. Medical Technology is so advance that there is a treatment for every kind of sickness. Some more dangerous than others but one of most simple and natural of them all is Medical Cannabis or better known as “Marijuana”. It was first prohibited in 1937 under the "Marijuana Tax Act" the move was made to protect the patents and fortunes of a few ultra-wealthy capitalists. But since then the drug has been proven to help with medical treatments. Marijuana is becoming more mainstream: more than 20 states have legalized it in some way or another, and several other states are thinking of changing their Medical Cannabis
Next, let’s examine groups that support marijuana becoming officially authorized. These groups dispute that it has medical benefits for patients that have cancer or AIDS. It helps relieve pain, relaxes, and may help the patients get their appetites back. Marijuana is also known to help slow down the progression of the disease in Glaucoma patients. People suffering from epilepsy use marijuana to prevent the epileptic seizures. It’s also known that marijuana helps with the treatment of people who maybe clinically depressed.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “currently, the two main cannabinoids from the marijuana plant that are of medical interest are THC and CBD.” The primary chemical in the cannabis plant, THC, releases the mind changing effect, increases hunger and reduces sickness that involves nausea. Therefore, the FDA approved THC based medications which are used for its beneficial purposes. THC may also decrease pain, swelling/redness and muscle control problems. CBD, the next main component in the cannabis plant, is a cannabinoid that does not affect the mind or behavior. CBD is more of a physical effect on the body. It may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation, relieving seizures caused by epilepsy, and perhaps even treating mental illnesses and addictions. Recent studies and experiments done on animals have shown that extracts from the marijuana plant may help deteriorate specific cancer cells and decrease the size of other cancer cells. As shown from the studies of medical marijuana, many wonder why the federal government hasn’t legalized it nationwide for medical use; if not legalized for recreational
“Marijuana has been effective in pain relief, it can cause one to sleep better, it can help with depression, and it is a much safer substitute for alcohol, and other drugs” (Lau, et al., 2015). Marijuana has been tested and proven to be a safer option as opposed to alcohol, cigarettes, and other more frequently used drugs. Unlike other man-made drugs that have been tampered with, cannabis is an all-natural plant grown straight from the ground and ready to use. Marijuana can be used as a stimulant or a depressant and can really calm someone who has suffered from PTSD, epilepsy, or depression, and it can even help one tolerate pain. According to WebMD as of June 13, 2016, “marijuana has been used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, appetite loss, cancer, and Crohn’s disease; it has been used to help patients with a number of eating disorders, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, nausea, and wasting syndrome (cachexia)” (“Medical Marijuana FAQ,” 2016). As I said before, when this drug is used properly it can provide one with a plethora of
Medical marijuana is very a big and controversial issue in today's society, currently the community is divided on the issue. Questions are always being thrown around such as "how does marijuana affect the body?" and "what good does’ marijuana do for a person?" Researchers have tried to answer these questions with multiple studies and they have shown some of the positives of medical marijuana. If something is able to help someone who is in dire need why not use it on those people to find a better solution for them. I myself am on the supportive side of the issue of medical marijuana. I don't think it should be legal to just anyone though I believe there should be a legal age law, a driving while under the influence, and a public intoxication law in effect for medical marijuana to be legal.
One major topic in the marijuana community is the medical use of this drug. Many people argue whether it should be used this way or not. ¨Experts report that there are currently 4.2 million medical cannabis patients in the United States, and these individuals believe they are receiving genuine medical benefits from using marijuana.¨ (Netzley 26). This is stating millions of people using this drug for medical purposes are feeling better from it. People who have cancer or any form of chronic pain should be able to use this to help them, its not only used to take away pain but is used for nausea and appetite loss. ¨Researchers have learned that this chemical binds with receptors in muscles, nerves, and the brain to reduce pain.¨ (Netzley 27). Many people use this drug to ease pain from multiple sclerosis, HIV, or inflammatory bowel disease to help relax their body. A lot of the people who use this drug for pain, can take it in many forms like smoking, eating, or in pill form.
