Every ad has an appeal type. In this assignment we were assigned to use the two ads that we had chosen for assignment two to determine their appeal. The first ad I chose was the Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty. The second ad I chose was Ultimate Miracle Worker by Philosophy. An appeal type “refers to the approach used to attract the attention of consumers and/or to influence their feelings toward the product, service, or cause” (Pitterson, 2015). There are a total of 5 different appeal types. They are Feature Appeal, Competitive Advantage appeal, Favorable Price appeal, News appeal, and Product/Service popularity appeal. Both of these ads I have chosen for this assignment feature a certain appeal type. This ad is highly informative as shown in the example that was just given and it also, tells a person where to exactly purchase this product on the ad itself. It says, “get free samples of Ultra Repair Cream at Sephora” (“Banish Dry Skin Even Relieve Eczema,” 2015). This is why I believe this ad is considered to be a Feature appeal type and how it fits the advertisement. It shows the dominant traits of the product and is highly informative about the product to viewers looking at the ad. In the second ad, Ultimate Miracle Worker by Philosophy shows a combination of three different appeal types. The first appeal type that I noticed featured in this ad was a Feature appeal. The ads describes how the product will protect your skin from sunlight and even features a full light spectrum to show how effective the product is to light.
