Every ad has an appeal type. In this assignment we were assigned to use the two ads that we had chosen for assignment two to determine their appeal. The first ad I chose was the Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty. The second ad I chose was Ultimate Miracle Worker by Philosophy. An appeal type “refers to the approach used to attract the attention of consumers and/or to influence their feelings toward the product, service, or cause” (Pitterson, 2015). There are a total of 5 different appeal types. They are Feature Appeal, Competitive Advantage appeal, Favorable Price appeal, News appeal, and Product/Service popularity appeal. Both of these ads I have chosen for this assignment feature a certain appeal type. In the first ad, Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty shows a Feature appeal. “Feature appeal focuses …show more content…
This ad is highly informative as shown in the example that was just given and it also, tells a person where to exactly purchase this product on the ad itself. It says, “get free samples of Ultra Repair Cream at Sephora” (“Banish Dry Skin Even Relieve Eczema,” 2015). This is why I believe this ad is considered to be a Feature appeal type and how it fits the advertisement. It shows the dominant traits of the product and is highly informative about the product to viewers looking at the ad. In the second ad, Ultimate Miracle Worker by Philosophy shows a combination of three different appeal types. The first appeal type that I noticed featured in this ad was a Feature appeal. The ads describes how the product will protect your skin from sunlight and even features a full light spectrum to show how effective the product is to light. The ad tells viewers that it will help bolster your skin’s natural transformation; patented high-performance bi-retinoid and active plant cells provide
The final and the strongest appeal in the advertisement is pathos, the appeal to emotions. Throughout the ad sick children are being shown and getting treated by a doctor or nurse. Showing the family and children laying down on beds who are being diagnosed for cancer. By showing these images the audience feels a sense of loss, fear, pain and grief, even though they do not personally know the children. Also, by not helping these children the audience might feel

As the article “what we are to Advertisers” by James B Twitchell informs that Advertisers use the strategy of positioning to attract consumers to their product. Positioning is a marketing strategy that exerts a brand to get the attention of customers. The product itself doesn’t even have to attract the consumer, the advertiser just needs to make an ad that creates a spark into people's minds. Although a product might be similar to its competitors, an ad can make a difference with how they are interpreted. Twitchell makes to understand that even though all of us are put into a category, we somehow all connect.
What captures the attention of people when they view an advertisement, commercial or poster? Is it the colors, a captivating phrase or the people pictured? While these are some of the elements often employed in advertising, we can look deeper and analyze the types of appeals that are utilized to draw attention to certain advertisements. The persuasive methods used can be classified into three modes. These modes are pathos, logos, and ethos. Pathos makes an appeal to emotions, logos appeals to logic or reason and ethos makes an appeal of character or credibility. Each appeal can give support to the message that is being promoted.
Marketing is often thought of as advertising and selling, but marketing encompasses more than just selling a product or service and advertising it to entice customers to make a purchase. Perrault, Cannon, and McCarthy (2009) defined marketing as "the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client" (p. 6). However, Kotler and Keller (2009) stated one of the shortest definitions is "meeting needs profitably" (p. 5). The author's definition of marketing includes all of the activities a business
Recently, Fenty Beauty released a commercial onto Instagram, Twitter and Youtube. This is the ideal method for displaying the makeup line because commercials have motion, which allows the viewer to see the use of the products in various looks. This advertisement shows a wide variety of people from different cultures and parts of the world. This makes it relatable to almost all people watching it because people automatically connect to advertisements where they see people that they associate with themselves. Therefore, by using this technique people will have a positive image of the brand and are more likely to buy the products. Along with the use of diverse models, there were animations of the products all linking together. By showing models in various shape, skin colour and background, Fenty Beauty focuses on an audience that has been rarely targeted. The audience for the makeup line are people with darker skin tones. The market for this audience was nearly untouched so there was definitely money to be made. This advertisement is also very unique in the way it shows its products. It has an aesthetic feel and makes itself visually appealing by using varying shades of colour, shapes, and camera angles along with upbeat music synced animations keeps the audience engaged. This creative use of visuals make it more appealing to the audience so that they are more likely to buy the product. The visuals show all the products in the product mix. The packaging of the products in the
The main purpose of commercials and advertisements is to persuade the viewer to purchase the product that is advertised, but not all commercials are successful in this endeavor. Companies, such as Budweiser and Kleenex, appeal to the viewers’ ethos, logos, and pathos in order to influence them to buy the advertised product(s). In order to appeal to each of the categories, companies use different tactics to catch viewers’ attention. The use of ethos, logos, and pathos can make or break an advertisement based on how it is being used.
It is generally assumed that all Romanians are liars and thieves. This is a stereotype. Yes, most of them are poor and some of them have no choice but to take things and lie. This is how some of them survive. Especially the Roma (gypsies). Most people assume the gypsies and the Romanians are one and the same when they are not. The Roma have the Romany language somewhat mixed with their home country, the ones who live in Romania mix Romanian with the Romany language. The Romanian language is a mix of Latin which dates back to the Roman times, Turkish, Greek, and Slavic languages. It also has some words that are derivative of German
I selected the Louisville Cardinals’ to discus this week for my week two assignment. This was Louisville’s fourth conference change since 1996.Louisville join the Conference U.S.A that year and was not welcome by its other conference colleagues, because the men’s basketball team was on probation by the NCAA. The Louisville program was also apart of a 60 minutes investigation, their home football games were being played in a minor league baseball stadium and their school has some serious Title IX issues according to Murphy, B (2014, July 1). Despite all of the surrounding issues Louisville went on to become successful on the field and basketball courts, they join the Big East conference and made their brand very attractive.
Nowadays, commercial is becoming a major part of mass media. It does not only try to inform people about the availability and attractiveness of industrial good productions but also contribute to build an awareness of resources and alternatives for customer in daily life. There are thousands of commercials, so to attract customer, advertisers use various kinds on their commercial to make people aware of the firm's products, services or brands. Though they use various kinds on the commercial, the main goal of advertising tries to convince customer to buy their products, or do what they want. An excellent commercial will create a deep impression on their customers, or who want to become their customers by using three classical appeals:
Advertising is a form of communication used to encourage or persuade an audience to continue or take some new action. But when advertisers produce an ad, they have many different variables that come into play if they want to successfully persuade consumers. The first most important step they have to figure out is, what type of audience they are trying to target. They then create images and intend to appeal specifically to the values, hopes, and desires of that particular audience. This is why someone would rather pick the well-known Malboro cowboy ads over the new female cigarettes of Virginia Slims. Each of these ads targets a specific audience;
magazines, on the internet, and practically everywhere there are ads. They make the customer feel as though they are not good enough, as if they have something missing. Weight loss products make claims, that are usually false, promising that the buyer will look and feel better about themselves. By showing pictures of other's results after using the product, a customer could be convinced into investing in the product themselves. Beauty products are advertised in a similar way. Usually targeted towards women, most of the time they contain pictures of beautiful women, using or wearing whatever lipstick, nail polish, or shampoo that the particular company is advertising. When a
The average person will watch approximately 2 million commercials throughout their lifetime. In this technologically driven environment, it’s the most effective method of appealing to an intended audience. However, there is a lot more to an advertisement than meets the eye. There are numerous methods being used in order to appeal to the audience. Corporations and businesses focus on rhetorical appeal when it comes to creating a successful advertisement.
The best and most effective type of advertising is the one that appeals to emotions because it is the visual part of the ad that makes you react on instinct. In the advertisement that I chose, the Bonduelle Food Service company is a company that predominantly sells vegetables. Like any food company out there they want to capture your attention and they want you to choose their food because it is the best and you will not find their product elsewhere. By taking a look at their ad, I’m immediately drawn in by their choice to use vegetables as if they were performing a regular human task. The texture and colors used in the advertisement makes me consider that they have perhaps have the best, clean, and maybe even softest vegetables. This is one good example of
Another example of marketing strategies during the ad is the use of pathos (emotional appeal). For instance, the ad slogan “you don’t just wake up looking fabulous” implies that the viewer ‘needs’ Special K to do so, appealing yet again to the viewer’s
