In order to be competitive enough and be able to take advantage of sudden rises in demand, Albatross Anchor needs to develop two manufacturing lines. This will ensure each anchor has its own production line. The two lines will also ensure that there is no need for changeovers or switch of equipments which will result in faster production. Also, this will meet sudden demand changes and increase competitiveness. This long term pursuit will effectively reduce the production time required and increase batch production of each anchor model. In order for the company to take advantage of increases in demand and achieve high operational standards, the building needs a complete renovation. Due to the high rate of illnesses, accidents and injuries in the industry, the organization further developed a hazard recognition program. This was greatly supported by the directives and the standards the organization drafted. The organization also set a safety and health program. This mainly depended on the credibility of management’s involvement in the program. This program provided for the inclusion of the employees in the program. The program also provided for the inclusion of the employees in the different decision making processes such as the safety and health decisions. The employees were also to be included in the decisions that involved change in the work site practices and conditions. The program addressed hazards despite failure by the government standard to regulate it (Brain Mass, 2010).
The survey identified hazards to emanate from the following areas. The paint shop where chemical exposures were high as a result of the fumes generated when painting cars. It was identified that paint fumes are very toxic and could result in chronic medical conditions when employees are not well protected. The body shop was the second area that was identified for hazards. There were numerous machinery and many tools of work that were heavy, sharp, and dangerous. Cost of production is costs incurred by Albatross Anchor when manufacturing an anchor. There are two types of costs – fixed and variable. Variable costs depend on what materials and labor are needed to make the anchor and vary with the volume of anchors produced. Fixed costs, such as rent or utilities, are always constant no matter how many anchors are produced (Russell & Taylor, 2011, p. 230).
In the survey, 45% percent reported they did not feel safe while installing systems at utility plants. While Kelecton does not own these utility plants, they must review and, if needed, improve the employee’s safety equipment. Workplace injuries can cause a massive financial burden on Kelecton. While the visible cost of medical treatment can be high, the unseen cost can be even higher. According to Safety Management Group’s website, “A $2,500 clinic visit could easily end up costing your business $10,000 in indirect costs such as lost productivity, administrative time, insurance increases, OSHA involvement, morale, reputation risk, and media attention” (Safety Management Group, 2017, para. 1).

Just recently, All Weather Windows Commercial Ltd., has purchased a smaller company with a large glass manufacturing facility. This smaller company has approximately 150 employees that now work under our organization. Throughout this assignment, I will focus on basic safety initiatives to implement into the new facility. The reason I chose to focus on implementing basic safety initiatives, is based on the fact, this new facility is populated with many plant workers and has to now adopt my organization safety program.
Albatross Anchor has a lack of flexibility in order fulfillment partially due to several factors, many of which have been previously addressed that include the layout of the factory, outdated equipment, and the lack of dedicated production lines to name a few. These issues do not allow the company to take full advantage of the benefits of mass manufacturing such as bulk pricing for raw materials, and the ability to produce more by expanding the schedule of the production floor. Currently if the schedule were expanded a great deal of that time would be utilized in changing over the single production line in order to change products being
Safety considerations include convenience of employee access and their communicating systems involved in the project and should be considered as the general overall layout takes shape. Even housekeeping and appearance considerations can modify layout plans.
