Comparing my clinical experiences from last semester to this semester, I would say that I have already experienced more this semester than I would have at this time last semester. Even though I am doing LNA work while incorporating RN aspects, I feel the work that we are doing this semester is more RN aspect based rather than LNA work. Clinical was my favorite part of last semester, and it is still my favorite part of the semester. Over the past couple of weeks at Riverside, I have had numerous new experiences, including following a nurse, following the wound care nurse, and going in on my day off to follow both the wound nurse and the nurse practitioner of the facility. The one event I would like to focus this journal entry on is the experience I had working on Unit 5 this past …show more content…
This week was the first time any of us students branched off from Unit 3 or 4 and there were two of us that went onto the unit. Unit 5 is the dementia unit, where the residents tend to be in the later stages of the disease. This unit is also known as the “wanderer unit” since there are a number of residents who pace around the unit in a similar pattern for hours a day. This unit is different than any other unit that I have been on because on this unit, every resident has dementia. My first thought was that one of us would be following a nurse around on the unit, completing a med pass, and the other student would follow around with an LNA to get a different experience. I was content going up to the unit and doing any of the two options that I had made in my head, but I was surprised when I got up on the unit. Both the student and I were able to follow around nurses and participate in med passes. I was paired up with a wonderful RN who let me just jump right in and take reigns of the med cart. Normally this would have intimidated me, but since I had already followed around an RN last semester, I knew what I was doing for the
The event that stood out the most to me during my clinical experience this month was when my assigned patient and her family began asking questions about the care the patient was receiving and other non-medical related questions.
My first encounter with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA) was during my undergraduate nursing OB/GYN rotation. I was impressed with the CRNA when she placed the epidural to the patient in labor. I remembered patient had difficulty staying still due to the contraction, but the CRNA took her time to explain the procedure while comforting the distressed patient. Once the epidural was in placed and the medication started working, I could tell the relief the patient experienced. I realized then that a CRNA goes beyond the delivery of anesthesia, pain management and monitoring of patients. Thus, obtaining this degree will prepare me to ease the patient’s mind through education, pain management, monitoring, experience and compassion.
During my first day of clinical, I encountered an issue that I believe is very significant. As a student nurse, our duty for this day was to follow our health care aide around the ward and assist in completing resident care. The resident required assistance in many of her daily tasks. The health care aide asked if I would perform one of those and do perineal care for her. I turned down her offer because I did not feel comfortable with my skill level. The resident had a bowel movement during the night. There was a significant odour in the room that overwhelmed me. I really wanted to leave the room because it was so unpleasant, but I stayed in the room so that the resident would not be embarrassed. This feeling of embarrassment, I assume,
In my time volunteering at the hospital, I hope to gain many different experiences. However, there are a few main ones: adaptation through enrichment and dependability. First of all, I want to get to know and adapt to the environment of the hospital and learn how different processes work. This is a crucial part of being in the atmosphere of a clinic. Also, the experiences that I will have at the hospital will help me to understand the routines and entailments of the career I would like to pursue. I hope to become a Physician’s Assistant in the future and this will be the best way to know if it is the right position for me. This enrichment of my understanding will help guide my passion for this career path and hopefully strengthen it.
This clinical experience took place at Peyton Elementary School and Prairie Heights Elementary School. Kamille, Ben and I were to teach hand hygiene, covering your cough and brushing your teeth to three Pre-K classes. First we developed a lesson plan and teaching aid for our students. Then, we gathered supplies such as spray bottles, dye, subject specific coloring sheet and a dinosaur with large teeth and tooth brush. Kids Rock dentistry in Colorado Springs was nice enough to borrow us the dinosaur and also gave us activity books for the kids. When we arrived at Peyton Elementary School at 0800, we noticed it was a very nice school. We met the school nurse at the office where we signed in. She showed us to classroom where the children
Public health nursing is an important aspect of nursing field, which contributes tremendously to the safety and health of our society. Public health nurses work hard to assure our communities are healthy and are able to attain needed support to be self-sufficient. However, it seems their hard work goes unnoticed by vast majority of our society. This of course, is my opinion, but I would say that if I were to survey various communities, most people would say that “Nurses just work in the hospital”. I could be very wrong.
A couple of years ago, my mom got a bellybutton pain in her lower-right side of the abdomen. It was an intense pain which moved all around her belly. She decided to ignore the pain, thinking it could be something temporary. Days went through and nothing could relieve the discomfort she felt. My dad decided to take her to a private doctor right away. The doctor had her do some blood tests accompanied by some others. When the results were ready the doctor asked us to take mom immediately to the hospital. He said something related to surgery and I lose control on myself. We had never been as scared of surgery as this day. We knew this kind of surgery was not as risky as others. The problem was hospitals in Honduras. Doctors back then did not care about the patient. Patients in the hospitals would get their wounds infected and they would die. I lacked trust in the abilities of the doctors. Not because they missed the knowledge required in doing this, but their interest in the patient was none. They knew the government was going to pay them either way. Therefore, they mistreated some patients. My mom received a
Classes will also be held monthly for all nurse residents to formally educate the nurse residents taught by our clinical nurse educators. This time could be used to learn policies and procedures important for our facility along with evaluating the program. This would allow for social interaction for the new nurse residents. Through this social interaction the residents could vent and share stories of best practices and do-overs to help them feel confident that they are not alone.
I wish to be considered for the Los Angeles City College Registered Nursing Program, because I believe that this program will provide me with the techniques and knowledge to excel in patient care and become a successful nurse. I always knew that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives; after taking a few perquisites for nursing, I found that the science aspect of it piqued my interest. Studying about the functions of the human body, and how the environment, medicine, and genetics affect homeostasis, caused me to develop a passion for nursing. Therefore, I exposed myself to the hospital environment by volunteering in the ICU at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. My experience in the ICU was motivational and inspiring. I loved walking
I have done many clinical rotations over the past three years of my high school career. From those experiences I have gained much needed knowledge that will help me to be a more contributing member to my community and those around me. I have learned how to communicate better with patients and how to listen and understand their needs. Although
In this case study, Ms. A is a 26-year-old white woman who is experiencing low levels of energy and shortness of breath. Ms. A also stated that these symptoms seem to get worsen during her menses. While playing golf in a mountainous area, she had gotten lighted headed. The attending physician had collected the objective data. The objective information is elevated heart rate and respiratory rate while having a normal temperature. Some of Ms. A’s history is have menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal problems for the last 10 to 12 years and takes 1,000 mg of aspirin every 3 to 4 hours during her menstruation. Also during the summer when she plays golf, she takes some aspirin to help avoid stiffness in the joints.
First of all i would like to say that when i first arrived i was kind of nervous butexcited at the same time ireally did enjoy my experience on my clinical field shift so anyways when i first arrived we introduced ourselves to each other then we did a walk around the ambulance making sure the lights, signals, and etc. was working properly then the EMT took me inside the ambulance to give me a breaf overview of all the supplies and equiptment that is stored in the back of the ambulance soon after that the paramedic arrived so therefore we proceeded to start our shift
As a lab technician, I spent most of my time in my lab, but I would visit the Clinical Research Unit on slow days, as it deeply fascinated me. I couldn’t help directly, however I got to witness even more of the medical world. It didn’t happen all at once, but it was easy to see how my passion and desire to work with people in a nursing capacity unraveled. When my letter finally came from Utica, I knew that I was doing what was right for me—and eventually, the people I will treat.
As a student of nursing program I am doing 220 clinical placements at True Davidson long term care. On the first day of my clinical, I was so excited and quite nervous too. On that day, I picked one patient and it was my first experience to handle the client individually. I am going to write about that I eventually learn something from my first clinical experience. My buddy nurse told me to go to client’s room and ready her for breakfast. Then, I went her room and said her to be ready for breakfast. She looks at me and seems angry. At that time my mind was wandering that what I did mistake to her. It was the fifth week of my 220 placement, however, that event has left a permanent effect on my mind and it comes to my mind on every
In my placement as a second year student, most of my duties are focused on providing nursing care and general ward
