In short, this course was very informative and it the most significant learning experience for me was defining critical thinking because I was intimidated by the word critical thinking. For the most part, I knew what the term critical thinking meant because I apply it in my everyday life. However, in our first assignment, I had to read to read define critically thinking several times to get a better understanding. In my own words, I described critical thinking as analyze a subject in more depth, but I learned in our reading assignments that the definition of critical thinking is “define as a set of skills which an individual applies to not only to another person reasoning, but also to one’s own reasoning” (Black, 2012, p. 59).

In my job, I have to do a lot of power point communication and I take what I learned from the subject and apply it in my presentation at my job. In hindsight, I did majority of previously presentation by being nervous and my preparation was not effective. However, in the text I learned that, there is an art to effective and persuasive speech, psychology also comes into play in terms of creating a presentation that incorporates an understanding of the way that people make up their minds about something (Excelsior College, n.d., para 2). How will you apply what you learned in your future work? Please provide a specific example or scenario. In the future, I’ll be applying new understanding of critical thinking in which will allow me to demonstrate the ability to remember information and apply it. Another significant point was communication in which I had the opportunity to demonstrate my ability in advanced written communication; thirdly, I have a better understanding of recognizing diversity in which will give me a better understanding in communicating with people of different cultures better than I previously did. Finally, the most important topic I’ll be able to use in the future is ethics because I can apply ethics to everything I do and I have a better understanding of why my job or future jobs requires me fill out their forms before I can have my email accounts
In my own point of view of what I think critical thinking means is a guide to make a logical decision based on a number of variables such as factual evidence and credible resources that can create valid statements behind the action of thought process including being open-mindedness and demonstrating the differences of valid evidence and assuming to make and communicate their point of view to be understood by the others in a conversation.
Critical thinking is one of the most important traits that a person can have in their day to day lives. It involves the person to have the ability to ascertain claims and make judgments based on well-support evidence or logic rather than anecdote or emotion. There are 8 protocols that critical thinkers’ exhibit in their day to day lives in order to become better at their craft.
Over the last thirty years, the health care system has incurred dramatic changes, resulting in new advances in technology and medical theories. Greater demand for quality care by consumers, more knowledgeable patients, remarkable disease processes, shorter hospitalizations, and the continuing pressure to lower health care costs are all contributing factors in the necessary changes to the nursing practice. In order for nurses to deliver optimum care, they must develop a higher quality of thinking capability. We will review the information given in this research paper to discuss the impact of critical thinking in the nursing profession, as well as the various strategies / techniques used in assisting

Critical thinking is a complex sector of education and how to apply it to teaching students. It is a difficult term to define and teach to a student, it has been a mystery to most teachers to teach students to think critically. Just as Brookfield, explains in chapter one of his book that outlines
The Purpose of this paper is to apply the 10 steps developed by (Browne & Keeley, 2010) and I will apply those methods on the following memo. A memo was drafted by Ms. Mary Ford (personal communication, January 30, 2012) who is Director of Amalgamated Public Employees Union (APEU) Local No. 121 to Mr. Hector Fuentes the President of APEU Local No. 121 on the issue on New Mexico State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Outsourcing, proposed by the New Mexico Governor Gloria Gainor. This is response memo to the Governor’s (personal communication, October 20, 2011) letter informing the APEU Local No. 121 the intent to
The outcome that I think will be the most challenging for me will probably be demonstrating critical thinking skills in response to readings/texts. That will probably be challenging because defining what appeals to the ethos, pathos, logos can get a tad bit confusing for me and sometimes I can mix things up. For example, if I think something is appealing to logic, in reality, it is appealing to emotions and values. Interpreting visual arguments can also be difficult due to the fact that interpreting is dependent on one's background knowledge and experiences. So the way I interpret something could be different to what someone else interprets.
In the book “Asking the Right Questions, A Guide to Critical Thinking” M. Neil Browne and Stuart M. Kelley discuss the ten steps to critical thinking. In the following pages I will apply these steps to a memo that was sent to Mr. Robert Shaw of Triad Insurance Company of Indianapolis and discuss them in detail. The memo was from Ms. Denise Khali, Vice President of Human Resources. D. Khali, personal communication, October 04, 2010.
I learned that it is important to try and let prospective employers know that you can feel their needs and if they have any questions about your abilities you should clear them up right away.
Critical thinking primarily includes the skill of analysing argument, making inferences using inductive or deductive reasoning, judging or evaluating text, making decision or perception on a writing and even trying to solve issues. It requires cognitive skills and dispositions – which can be considered to be ones habits or openness to various view- points. Critical thinking pertains to the reading and writing process and it involves general and domain specific aspects of critical thinking. In my opinion, critical thinking is a cross- disciplinary skill vital for college and employment. Prior to this course, I had a vague idea of what critical thinking means and how it is done. However, now I have developed a different perspective
2. If critical thinking is purposeful judgment, then if I do not agree with your judgment, that means I’m not thinking critically.”
……What is critical thinking, critical thinking is -------it helps a nurse --------and all of these steps contribute to good patient outcomes. Critical Thinking is becoming more understanding to me. I have always been an open minded thinker, whenever it came to looking at different point of views on whatever is in front of me .My mom always told me that I challenged everything she gave me to do, or told me to do. She told me I was very stubborn. If I asked a question and she gave me a answer, I would always question her why! I never knew it was a trait of, what I know now as being a Critical Thinker. Looking at Fair-Minded Thinkers, I possess the quality of having courage. The Courage to question what I was taught growing up, to seek truth and logic in beliefs and everything I knew at this point in my life. I was always taught that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Not saying I don’t believe in god, but I questioned that after reading about Egyptian history. After about 6 months of reading and research I found some very uneasy things that needed some attention.
Critical thinking was the first concept that I was introduce too when I started the course back in September. I hardly remember it from my pass psychology class so it was kind of new to me when I first started to learning about it. I thinking that why I chose it as one of my most important concept, because it was what introduce me to the course. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgement on the base of supported evidence and not from emotions. I like it
According to Supon, one of the fundamental purposes of teaching critical thinking is to enhance the abilities of students to become critical thinkers. Corporate leaders, educational researchers, employers, and parents have continually pushed teachers to assist their students in the development of critical thinking ability. Critical thinking is a skill that ?involved not only knowledge of content by also concept formation and analysis, reasoning and drawing conclusions, recognizing and avoiding contradiction, and other essential cognitive activities? (Supon, 1998).
