My Political Philosophy

Over the length of this course, we have discussed several aspects of politics. We have studied citizenship and obligations to society as a citizen, justice and what it means to us as individuals, and how to go about enacting change within a community and around the world. Some of the most important topics from this class included the characteristics, duties, and obligations of rulers of government. In addition to the concept of rulers, we also studied the notion of authority and the moral and metaphysical implications of authority to individuals ' autonomy. Within each concept of study, we read works from many authors with conflicting ontologies, constructed from their differing views on human nature.

When people have imbalanced access to work, housing, healthcare, ownership, education, et cetera, inequality is present. Inequality affects everyone in the world and comes from people’s fears of one another and other people’s opinions.

In a perfect society, people are the ones in charge of their own individual rights, but occasionally those rights can interfere with the rights of others. Therefore, it is a must to set boundaries and limits to the people to create an equal and balanced society. Some ways to create such equality is by providing laws and rules that majority of the population agrees to obey and follow.

For this week’s forum, I chose to answer topic A question. The concept of equal opportunity is very important in a just society. This is because by creating equal opportunity to everyone, there would be maximization of the social well-being in the society. What the phrase means is that there should be fair processes in society where no one is discriminated. Equal opportunity can be realized as it expresses value for moral equality.

In Steven Cahn 's book, Political Philosophy, The Essential Texts, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau created the circumstances to enable the fundamental principals of philosophy and politics. These knowledgeable, astute and significant men have helped to achieve the structure of our past and present democracy as well as a plan of action for the rights and values that we as citizens can all relate to today. They are grounded in their thinking and tied together as a whole in ideas and practices of politics, philosophy and humankind. Possessors of morals and ethics reflected in their works have influenced current social interaction and the foundation of our current practice of democracy in which we have relied upon this present day. For over a hundred years, theorists have deliberated the nature of our species and the method of governing appropriately to warrant the Commonwealth. Today in politics there is a palpable disunion about the useful role of system and a sharp division regarding human nature.

In a society, all people have different capabilities as well as the resources they own. However, the distribution of these resources within the society is what is referred as distributive justice. It enables the less fortunate in the community to have a sense of belonging, and it also gives them a say in the society. Through distributive justice, people can peacefully coexist. Distributive justice is also viewed as a way in which things like rewards and costs are shared in a group of individuals depending on their capabilities. Nevertheless, distributive justice has different approaches depending on the situation and the norms of a group in the society. In this case, distributive justice can be applied to promote equity

I am writing to you today in order to recommend some policies based off my political philosophy as you embark on your journey towards winning the seat for the Presidency. The first policy deals with equality among voting regulations. Many large corporations spend too much money on political campaigns. As a result, this way of spending money leads to the candidate answering the large corporations, not the average citizen. The current way of campaigning creates an oligarchy [the wealthy] in our government. The rule by few by the many. However, the government should be more democratic [the poor] in nature (3.1.2). Therefore, I invite you to eradicate such policies that eradicate that allow corporations to have no cap on how much they can donate;rather, there should be a more even playing field that allows the lower class to donate money but is not undermined by large corporations. This policy would be beneficial to all citizens because they will all have equality amongst the law. The candidate will have to listen to the public, not just large corporations. The next policy addresses the issue of people’s rights. The human is, by nature, a political animal (1.2.9). Therefore, I am suggesting that people’s ability to communicate is the most powerful political tool. This policy addresses the many injustices in our society.
