As a qualified childcare practitioner with over 11 years' experience in Early Education and Childcare I have a wealth of experience and knowledge in working with children aged 0-5. A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.

Since I was young I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I liked the idea of helping people, especially kids. I went from wanting to be doctor, to a pediatrician,  to a neonatal nurse, and I finally settled on a nurse. I knew nurses face many challenges that I am preparing myself to overcome. Working long hours being one of them.

Historically, the nursing field is one that has consistent positive job outlooks, as there is typically a continued shortage. Healthcare is the backbone of most communities, not just for its services, but also for the jobs it provides and the economy stimulation. Jill Bernstein, author for “Changes in Health Care Financing and Organization” states, “The health care industry is a critical component of the national, and most regional and local economies of the United States” (4). The nursing field has suffered challenges due to the economic, social, and the political downturn of the U.S. Nevertheless, there is still some noticeable growth taking place and opportunities available. This shows encouraging signs for new nursing graduates.

Did you know that Nurse Practitioning is the number one populated health care job? With about 2.5 million registered Nurses, the job seems to be the biggest and most demanded job in America. (Frederickson 4) Nursing is a job that consists of helping a wide range of people with a variety of problems. You have to have good skills, knowledge, characteristics and training to become a Nurse Practitioner. Nurses can work in different places such as offices, health care centers, hospitals and several other. It is most likely for licensed nurses to work in hospitals. (Frederickson 94) They can work independently or as a joint team with other Doctors or Nurses. Nurse Practitioners earn a very high salary and earn many benefits. (Maurer 2) Nursing is a job that demands hard work and several years of training, but the reward of helping people and the high pay makes up for it.

During my term in school I have often thought about what department of nursing I would like to go into, but I did not put too much thought into the steps it would take to become a nurse in Illinois. I have been so focused on being a mom of four, going through nursing school and keeping my job (not in medical) of eleven years that I haven’t had a real mental opportunity to consider how I will retain a holistic life balance, which stressors or challenges I may face, how I will continue to learn throughout my life as a nurse, nor what type of contributions I can make as a professional nurse. Through researching these questions, I have learned a lot about, the process and myself.

I am seeking employment as an entry level nursing assistant. I would like to join my personal healthcare experiences to the Mercy team’s talents to jointly give the best service to the patients of Mercy Hospital. I have been interested in nursing the past six years. Over the past two years, I have become passionate about nursing, specifically ICU nursing, and I coming to a point in my life where I am wanting to begin stepping into this career choice. I am very compassionate, empathetic, and feel that the experiences that I have endured with my daughter these past two plus years have given me a passion to provide excellent and loving care to ill patients.

Through seeing and encountering first-hand the compassion and civility nurses pose both through recent experiences of my own and close family members, I was urged to follow into a profession where by dedication and benevolence is core. Adult nursing was the nursing branch that appealed to me most due to the broad basis of patients and medical conditions I could come in contact to, along with its wide scope of sectors and opportunities for lifelong learning and development. Post completing a degree in nursing I am extremely keen to venture into nursing within an emergency department. Providing critical care to a variety of illnesses and patients daily In my spare time I enjoy reading periodicals related to nursing and keeping up to date with current healthcare issues by reading articles from the RCN and the Nursing Times. Furthermore I am a member of Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.

Since I was a young child, I have wanted to pursue nursing as a career. My mother inspired me to be a nurse, not because she is a nurse or because she told me to pursue this career, but because of her love and compassion for people. I aim to follow in her footsteps but on a much greater scale. A few years ago I initiated a goal to pursue a nursing degree in order to gain some experience then travel around the world to assist people in need of medical care, specifically in undeveloped countries. These people do not have the means to receive medical attention because of where they live, I want to help them for that reason.

As a responsible and supportive individual I have considerable experience working within the care sector caring for individuals. In conclusion, I’ve come to realize that working with the elderly is an area I would like to pursue as a career. I feel as though I have responded well in bathing patients and communicating with them. I sense that I have taken every step necessary in ensuring total patient comfort and kept in mind at all times the well-being of the patient. Rotation in the NICU has provided me with ample opportunities to work with critically ill patients having complex medical issues.
