Nursing Care Model Paper Nurses play a significant and pertinent role in healthcare delivery. They are educators, counselors, offer one on one care and attend to the needs of the patient. They implement direct care, augment quality patient care, advocate and bring comfort to the patient. Nursing models are designed to guard and support professional practice. Nursing care models provide the infrastructure for organizing the delivery of care to patients and families (Dubois, C. et al. 2013). The nursing care model creates a process used when caring for patients and it varies depending on the healthcare facility and the form of nursing leadership utilized. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the two nursing care models with my experience. At the long-term care facility that I currently work, nurses utilize a functional nursing care model, which I will discuss in the paper along with the synergy nursing care model method. …show more content…
Instead of one nurse having entire responsibility for the sick elderly patients, each nurse plays a certain role. The nursing staff in our organization work together to ascertain that the patients’ needs, and goals are met. I currently work night shift in a long-term care facility; the facility provides support and assistance for residents with their daily living for both abled and unable residents to meet their fundamental needs. The facility consists of eight floors, and each floor has an average of forty residents. Shifts are eight-hours, usually run by one or two RN/LPN with two to three CNAs on each floor at night. On a lucky day, there are two nurses on the rehab and acute care unit, but in most cases, one RN or LPN that knows and understands the floor is assigned to charge each
Theory development stems from personal experiences, intuition, and knowledge of the theorist (Burns et al., 2013). When a scholar develops a theory, it has to be tested through research. The findings of the study are then presented to experts in the area of academics and the field of practice (Burns et al., 2013). The presentation of the findings allows experts to provide constructive criticism, highlight the pros and cons of the theory, and acknowledge whether or not the theory can be accepted as a guide to practice. This theory evaluation paper will give the reader a theory description, theory analysis, and an assessment of Dorothea Orem’s self-care deficit theory of nursing (Alligood et al., 2010).
Anything… the word I professed some time ago. I prayed the prayer that I would do anything. The woman who tends to always be in a state of trepidation, prayed that she would do anything for Him. From that one word, many plans surfaced. I had hoped that it was just spontaneous thoughts and that they did not mean anything. Among the list, was the idea of becoming a nurse. It was an outlandish notion. How on earth could I be a nurse? Somehow that random thought has turned into a reality. I am currently striving toward one of my “anythings”. I know that my current situation is definitely not by my own doing and that He has been continually opening doors. It has not been an easy road. Thoughts of doubt, negative
The purpose of this paper is to conduct an in depth exploration of the nursing care considerations of patients in a specific clinical area. Through the synthesis of prior knowledge, clinical experiences and skills, evidence based best practices, and care of patients a comprehensive care and teaching plan will be composed. Integration of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills, combined with evidence-based research will provide confirmation of nursing process comprehension. The inclusion of reviewed literature will further support knowledge and understanding.
The health care industry is experiencing a surge in the number of baby-boomers needing health care and increased demands on the physicians providing the care. This trend has made the role of Advanced practice providers more important (cite). It is imperative to understand the differences and similarities in the advanced practice provider roles as it pertains to healthcare. This paper will identify specialty nursing roles including advanced practice registered nurses (APRN). It will further compare and contrast the advanced practice nurse (APN) and physician assistant (PA) roles in practice.
The Salary of an RN is about $36.94 per hour, but the work schedule of a nurse is crazy. Nurses never really get a break especially floor nurses. I have talked to quite a few nurses and they have said that since you don’t truly get a break you tend to gain weight do to constantly eating/snacking. The education needed to be a Registered Nurse would be a Bachelor Degree which is a four year process. To be a Registered Nurse or RN you will need no training. On the job you will administer basic health care which is a temporary health coverage program for low-income, uninsured United States citizens or permanent legal residents of Contra Costa County. As an RN you will being giving patients intravenous medications. An intravenous
broad range of individual patients. The patient should be able to benefit maximally from the care he/she receives.

This process paper will evaluate the complex relationship between disease pathophysiology and how it has progressed to the patient’s current state of health. It will include a comprehensive discussion of chronic and acute problems leading to the patient’s hospital admission, a complete description of interrelationships and pathophysiology for all medical diagnoses, a comprehensive discussion of the client’s signs and symptoms and results of all diagnostic studies to the underlying pathophysiology, and a comprehensive listing of all medications ordered at the time of admission with explanations of why each was ordered and identification of the most common side effects which may
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has identified nine essentials that are incorporated into master’s nursing programs to help direct the practice of advanced practice nurses (APN’s). Essential II outlines how an APN can utilize organizational and systems leadership to promote safer and more cost effective care. By incorporating effective leadership skills, APN’s can help transform healthcare and make quality improvements for the patient, the institution, and the community. According to the American Association of College of Nursing (2011), an effective leader assumes and applies “the skills of communication, collaboration, negotiation, delegation, and coordination” (p. 11). APN’s must be able to establish and maintain a healthy
The moderate sedation policy will be revised to require one on one nursing staff to monitor patient from admission until discharge criteria is met. Patient vital sign parameters will be included along with frequency of monitoring. All staff who assist or perform moderate sedation will complete required training as described in the policy. Annual recertification will be completed by all practitioners and registered nurses through continued education, observation, and implementation.
Nursing, as the largest health care profession in the United States, plays a tremendous role in health promotion and delivery of care. From the 2.7 million employed registered nurses to the current Deputy Surgeon General of the United States, nursing infiltrates all aspects of healthcare (Bureau of Statistics, 2015). Therefore, as a profession, nursing must understand the intricacies of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and within its framework develop strategies to “advance nursing, health, and healthcare through education, clinical practice and research,” (Young et al, 2017). This paper aims to review portions of the ACA as it pertains to nursing, and offer an example of nurse practitioner innovation in practice.
The national league for nurses defines critical thinking in the nursing process as “a discipline specific, reflective reasoning process that guides a nurse in generating, implementing, and evaluating approaches for dealing with client care and professional concerns” (Kozier, 2008). This definition is imperative to help a nursing student learn how to think in terms of nursing care. Nursing students must achieve a comprehensive understanding of critical thinking in order to understand the nursing process. The purpose for this paper is for nursing students to learn how to use the nursing process, how to properly document their findings and assessments, and correctly implement APA formatting in a formal paper.
I will have to admit that this is the toughest theory/model for me to follow. I believe that I have read every article on the internet for the past 3 days. I found it difficult to find order in Johnson’s categories and subcategories. I think I understand Johnson’s overall philosophy which is for the nurse to identify areas of disequilibrium and help the patient towards balance and equilibrium. (George, 2011)
According to the Arslanian, Hicks, Whall and Algase (2005) nursing theories have unique views. Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) not only focus on diagnosis and medical intervention but also considers family, environment and patient responses in their plan of care. This makes them different from other health care providers like physicians and physicians assistants (Arslanian et al., 2005). I agree that it is important for us as an APN to use theories to guide our own advanced practice because theory gives identification to nurses, and distinguishes nurses from other profession by its unique contribution to the clinical practice. Nursing is an autonomous profession (Kenny, 2013). Nursing theory provides various information to understand the patient
Nursing care delivery model is a method that is used by nurses as implemented by their institution in providing care to their patients. The method of care can be varied throughout different healthcare settings and carried out by a variety of organizational methods. Each delivery of care method used by an organization is determined by the effectiveness of economic issues, patient safety and quality given, and patient population. Team nursing, total patient care, primary nursing, and functional nursing are four models that have been dominant in most inpatient facilities. Functional and primary care delivery models are the most commonly used methods in the clinics (Liang & Turkcan, 2016).
