She strived to help the people sick and in need. Nightingale showed her caring heart when she helped cure soldiers during the Crimean War. She showed her compassion as she helped the wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Over time, Nightingale noticed the unsanitary conditions at the base hospital. I am interested in nursing as a career because nurses get the chance to make a huge difference in someone's life, there is always exciting and challenging tasks in a nurse's life, and of course nurses make excellent money. A nurse can work in many different establishments, such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc. Every day nurses make a huge difference in someone's life. Most patients appreciate nurses more than anyone else. As a nurse, you get the opportunity to interact with so many different people.

Florence Nightingale was an immense impact on nursing, who “became famous for her revolutionary work as a nurse during the Crimean War” (Kent 30). “She dedicated her life to improving conditions in hospitals, beginning in an army hospital during the Crimean War,” (3 Registered). Her actions were then used by “concerned individuals, rather than by professionally trained nurses” during the Civil War, (Registered 279). Many of Nightingale’s ideas were brought into modern times, but with the improvement of technology and licensed nurses. To earn a degree as a registered nurse, there are several steps that are required to legally be a certified healthcare professional. The first step is to acquire the proper and required education and training. There are different educational paths one can take. You can pursue an associate 's degree in nursing (ADN), bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), or even further your education by earning a Masters in Nursing (MSN). To earn an associate 's degree in nursing, you are required to attend college or a university. The first 2 years you have to take the pre-requisites needed to enter a Nursing program. The pre-requisites included English, math, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, etcetera. After completing the courses that are required, one must apply to an accredited educational institute that offers a nursing program. Some institutes that offer this program are Miami Dade College, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University (NSU). During my term in school I have often thought about what department of nursing I would like to go into, but I did not put too much thought into the steps it would take to become a nurse in Illinois. I have been so focused on being a mom of four, going through nursing school and keeping my job (not in medical) of eleven years that I haven’t had a real mental opportunity to consider how I will retain a holistic life balance, which stressors or challenges I may face, how I will continue to learn throughout my life as a nurse, nor what type of contributions I can make as a professional nurse. Through researching these questions, I have learned a lot about, the process and myself.

Students who want to become a Registered Nurse after high school should either go into a Bachelor’s Degree program which is 4-5 years to complete or an Associate’s Degree program which is 2-3 years to complete. My desire to pursue a career in adult nursing is because I believe this to be one the most fulfilling and worthwhile careers to choose. While I understand that nursing is such a diverse and challenging career, being able to help people in their moment of need would make all these challenges worthwhile. Nursing is an exciting career path with a wide range of opportunities, it is hugely diverse and provides people with a chance to specialise in certain areas. I hope to make the most of these opportunities when studying for my degree, and I am confident that I will find a career path that is suited for me. I completed a Psychology degree in 2016, and this has given me a greater understanding of people and the way in which they think, feel and behave.

Nurses serve a very important role in a hospital. They have many duties such as administering medication to patients, relaying messages from doctor to family and vice versa, providing not only physical support but emotional support as well, etc. They keep things running smoothly and when things aren’t going so well they know exactly how to react to the situation.
