Marketing Plan: Phase I
During week two, Learning Team B will take a thorough look at the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant chain. Team B has decided that a new appetizer item should be added to the restaurant menu. The appetizer item being considered is cheese filled breadsticks served with Marinara sauce. The team will begin this marketing plan by giving an overview of the Olive Garden Restaurant, along with a detailed description of the new menu item being considered. They will also explain why marketing plays an important role in the restaurants success. If customers have tried breadsticks from these companies and did not like them, then they may think the same of the stuffed breadsticks from Olive Garden. It is important to market the stuffed breadstick differently than the low cost breadsticks from the other restaurants.
SWOTT Analysis One useful aid that Team B can use to identify “relevant screening criteria and for zeroing in on a feasible strategy is SWOT analysis.” SWOT analysis identifies and lists the strengths and weaknesses and its opportunities and threats (Perreault, Cannon, & McCarthy, 2009). Here are the strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats for the new breadsticks for Olive Garden. Two important strengths for Olive Garden is that it is a well know Italian food restaurant and they are known for their breadsticks. For Olive Garden to add a new line of breadsticks with cheese will be a nice addition. There are many people who will enjoy the cheese filled breadsticks served with the marinara sauce on the side. This gives Olive Garden customers a choice on what type they would like before their dinner, if not both. One weakness that needs to be considered for adding this appetizer menu item would be the fact that Olive Garden is known for their already plain breadsticks and some people do not like change. Olive Garden has always been known for a great Italian meal and family friendly atmosphere. Tradition has always been a strong part of the experience as each meal is start with soup or salad and their patented bread sticks. These and more have made Olive Garden a staple nationwide in Italian cuisine, however like any chain, it does come with a few flaws. Olive Garden’s qualities entail everything a family Italian restaurant with minimal flaws in its design image, food, and customer service.
I would definitely disagree with that statement. Olive Garden worked hard for their image and it took a long time to establish it. Only a bit of negative publicity could destroy the image. The ‘’The Sexiest Girls of Olive Garden’’ could have such a negative impact on Olive Garden. Thus, Olive Garden has to prevent an image loss.

Our team took the time to visit one each of the requested fast food establishments, Moe’s Southwest Grill (a Focus Brands group establishment) and Panera Bread Company. Olive Garden is a well known Italian place with phenomenal food served at your fingertips. You have many choices to choose from once you take your seat. For an appetizer they serve you warm and buttery garlic bread in a wooden basket. For additional fees you may order a salad if you would like to, which is something I would recommend because they toss the salad just right and add the perfect out of whatever dressing you desire. For an entree you have the choices of pizza, pasta, salads, chicken, shrimp, and seafood. After you have finished your entree there is extremely delectable desserts you can have, such as, cake, ice cream, cheesecake, tiramisu and many more items. Olive Garden has so many foods to choose
Panera Bread Company’s strategy comprises of offering a premium of the specialized bakery as well as excellent cafe experience to its customers who include suburban residents and urban workers (Arthur, 2016). The strategy is further enriched by an effective broad differentiation strategy. The company seems to be concerned with designing and producing its products in unique in ways in order to cater for its wide range of consumers and satisfy them adequately. The company developed this strategy after a thorough market research that aimed at identifying what consumers could want. The company had a pack of product that significantly excited customers that constituted of fast food as well as casual dining.
Those 21 and over should try out one of the Olive Garden’s wonderful mixed drinks. The moscato citrus berry cocktail and peach sangria are wonderfully refreshing. On the food side, customer favorites include a chicken piccata topped with a delicious lemon garlic butter sauce. There are also many pasta plates and bowls to choose from as well.
