The services are focused on the residents we serve and improving their quality of life, along with reducing the cost of the pharmacy bill. Accuracy is an absolute must anywhere, however, it is extremely important in pharmacy. Errors could lead to harmful effects for the respective patient, which could possibly lead to death. The fourth objective we will look at is improving employee morale. Employees are a key part of our daily pharmacy operations. Increasing the morale of our employee can help them feel like they are integral part of our daily business. This can lead to suggestions that might help achieve our vision (Epstein & Manzoni, 1997). Having monthly team building activities can help introduce everyone. Getting to know each other is one of the toughest battles, especially if you have to work together. Therefore, monthly fun team building activities will help make employees comfortable with each other. Once that happens, they can work together to achieve many goals, and make suggestions in order to better achieve the goals. The next perspective we will discuss is internal process. This is like asking “What can we as a company change within ourselves to satisfy our customers?” Excelling within our four walls can help create a self-image that is note-worthy to prospective clients. The first objective we will look at is increasing the quality of employees. Employees need to be of high caliber, and/or with the earning to learn and grow. This is can be difficult to measure. However, if we gave bi-annual testing, we can seed through the employees, which have an
* Set developmental goals with each employee. These goals focus on building the employee’s expertise, skills, and abilities. The idea is to make strengths even stronger, as well as to develop the areas in which the employee’s knowledge and skills are deficient. As you provide your team members with these developmental goals and support them to attain them you will be building the company’s future and displaying to your team that you are there to support and develop their career.
Balanced scorecard is a methodological tool that businesses use to get a measure by which someone can determine whether the set goals have been met or exceeded. It adds non-financial metrics to traditional financial metrics to give a well-rounded view of the performance in an organization. Balanced scorecards also help organizations to predict their success in meeting their overall strategic goals.
The US is an aging society like many societies around the world and as a result, there is an increase in the number of patients admitted to nursing homes. The elderly population is a fragile population that undergoes mental and physical decline in health. This increases the number of medications used, which increase the risk of adverse drug reactions due to drug-drug and drug-disease interactions. Pharmacists have become increasingly active in nursing homes by providing medication therapy management services, but the benefit in reducing prevalence of these adverse drug reactions is not fully understood. Medication therapy management is a growing field that has been incorporated by pharmacists in different states to optimize therapeutic outcomes in individual patients. Understanding the relationship between medication management and drug- drug
According to the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA), on July 1, 1999, established a quality indicator that residents taking nine or more medications will be used to identify long-term facilities where medications potentially are overused and residents may be at increased risk for adverse drug reactions (ADR). However, this approach can be controversial because the medication is essential for older people health safety. There are many factors on the overuse of medication which can include age, health and the number health care visits. Especially on home care and long-term facilities, most of the elderly in this facilities are forced to take these medications due to facility policies (Hanlon, 2001). Another

Our initial expense will be building the pharmacy within the nursing home and rent. Building and renovations costs will be $50,000.00. We will then furnish our pharmacy. The pieces that will be purchased include two desks, a coffee table, six chairs, 2 couches, a room divider, shelves, cabinets, and a TV. These will be inside the pharmacy and in our waiting room. Along with these, office equipment will be purchased as well. This will include three computers, a printer, fax machines, phones, staplers, pen, paper clips, labels, and folders for storage. A very important required purchase will be the computer program. This will provide a setup for our pharmacists and technicians. Once all these items are in place, a refrigerator,
One of them is medication compounding; that is to prepare the drug in a particular dosage form to suit patients’ physical or clinical conditions. For example, preparation of an oral mixture (by crushing an oral solid form with a suitable solvent, which can preserve the shelf life) for an elderly patient who cannot swallow any solid food. Another service, compliance packaging help patients and caregivers in many ways. The pack is more useful if the patients have a long list of medicine with complicated administration instructions, such as to be taken on empty stomach or during meals and on a different schedule. The packaging designed would reduce medication error that would render the drug intake less effective, toxic and counter any confusion and forgetfulness. On the other hand, medication therapy management (MTM) is an individual counselling session by the clinical pharmacists. It is for everyone who is willing to pay a small fees (as this service is not covered by the health insurance) to optimise their drug therapy and clinical outcomes. Besides, sterile drug preparation is available too. Nursery homes and individual patients who need parenteral (injectable) medicine and eye products at home can enjoy the convenience of this service, as not many community pharmacies have a clean room to prepare

The Balanced Scorecard Institute reports that in the 1950’s General Electric was the first to use the Balanced Scorecard approach, but it was not until the 1990’s when Dr. Robert Kaplan a Harvard Business School professor and Dr. David Norton officially titled it the Balanced Scorecard. Once used as only a measurement tool for organizations, it is now a complete strategic planning and management system (Balanced Scorecard Institute, n.d.). Originally, businesses looked at the financial reports to distinguish whether it was a quality company or not. Kaplan and Norton however believed the financial reports only showed past history and an organization must also track how it is performing currently and look at ways to constantly improve future performance. Kaplan and Norton established there are four business segments or perspectives to measure and make improvements on. The four segments
Proper medication management among older adults can be challenging. Older persons may not fully understand the purpose of the medication and the importance of following the prescription as directed. Over the counter medication, herbs and supplements may not be considered medication; therefore, they do not inform their health care provider that they are taking them. Multiple health care providers can result in duplication of orders or adverse drug reactions. Improper management of medication may lead to adverse drug events ultimately extending a hospitalization or decreasing an older adult’s ability to function safely. Obtaining an accurate record of medications at all points of care promotes safer medication administration and prevents
