Organizational Behavior, Terms, and Concepts
For a business to be successful there must be a well-built foundation amongst its human resources. These workers must be kept content. In turn, they work hard and increase productivity. Organizational behavior is a way to observe the employees, while Organizational culture aids in bringing the people of the firm together. This is done by letting the people of the organization build a system of shared ideas, views, actions, and beliefs (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, Chapter 1 & 16, 2008). In both places of business, each meeting has a question and answers option. At the proper moment, employees are given the chance to voice concerns or ask questions. Conferences are held at least once a year for District Managers of Charlotte Russe. This conference normally takes place before schools start their next year. This is a large conference due to the “tax free” weekend, and is a great opportunity to introduce new product. Therefore, a lot of information is communicated on how to set up merchandise and advertise sales. Also, the conference gives District Managers the chance to share accomplishments their teams have achieved, as well as, chances to improve. Non-verbal forms of communication may incorporate hand outs, newsletter via the company’s intranet portal, or E-mails. At Starbucks, EMA, and Charlotte Russe, members of staff may be given updates about the company through the use of a company portal. This portal is set up specifically for the business and its employees. Many times changes in operation, new products, and information on upcoming sales can be found here. E-mails are another form of non-verbal communication that is often used to inform workers of change or improvements that may occur in the future. Some companies make it mandatory to create an E-mail account through the company, like EMA. Others, like Charlotte Russe, only allow access from within the

Organizational behavior is the study on how organizational structures affect behavior of its employees within the organization. Organizational systems is the structure that an organizations uses to organize its functions and assign responsibility to its employees. Organizational behavior in any criminal justice organization is how the superiors and the employees relate
It is reasonable to suggest that the overwhelming majority of humankind has either been part of or required the services of organizations at some point in time during their lives, and many of these consumers will likely testify that although every organization is different in some ways, they all share some common characteristics. Furthermore, because all organizations are comprised of mere humans, they are subject to the same behavioral whims, weaknesses and vagaries that also characterize the human condition from day to day and over time. To gain further insights into these concepts, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer-reviewed and scholarly literature to develop a comprehensive and robust definition of organizational behavior. This review is followed by a summary of the research and salient findings in the conclusion.
Organizational Culture is the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that has developed within an organization and guides the behavior of its members. Organizational Development consists of special applications of knowledge gained from behavioral science to create a comprehensive design to improve organizational effectiveness. Through the collective experiences, the members of an organization solve two important survival issues. The first issue addresses external adaption which deals with reaching goals, how they are to be accomplished, the methods to be used to achieve these goals,
The following essay will be described the organizational behavior terminology and concepts applied in the organization. The following topics will be presented: Organization culture as internal and external environment of control. Diversity as of individual differences based on gender, race and ethnicity, age, disabilities, and sexual orientation. As the last subject communication as the human skill that helps the organization to work well with other people, and resolves conflict. The point of view for experiences in my organization will be included in this paper and conclusion.
One major corporation that is affected by organizational behavior is the west coast based 24 Hour Fitness, Inc. The company operates and owns more than 300 fitness centers that offer aerobic, cardiovascular, and weight lifting activities to the company’s more than 2.7 million members. Some locations offer even more amenities than those listed. The fitness centers are located in 16 states as well as Europe and Asia (www.hoovers.com).
The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem-solving and emotional roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52).
An organization’s culture governs day to day behavior. This type of power may be seen as a control mechanism, which businesses use to manipulate internal and external perception. Every organization has a set of assumed understandings that must be adopted and implemented by new employees in order for them to be accepted. One of the most important things a business needs to be successful is happy employees. It is important for employees and managers have an established plan to deal with critical matters. Managers must study the behavior of their employees to decide how they will achieve their desired goals. Organizational behavior is "the study of human behavior in organizational settings, the interface between human behavior and the organization, and the organization itself. (Griffin, 2012)" We can divide organizational behavior in 3 separate categories. The first one is the individuals within the organization. The second is the work group which is made by placing workers into specific groups. The last one is how the organization itself behaves.
Businesses today often promote change to create a better more productive work environment. These changes occasionally produce unwanted results which were not expected or planned for. By monitoring organizational behavior unwanted or negative results can be minimized so change can be effective within an organization. What is Organizational behavior? Prior to this course, I never known that much of what is organizational behavior an in which ways it can impact the organization. Over the course my knowledge about Organization Behavior has expanded. Organization behavior is the systematic study and application of knowledge about how individuals and groups act within the organizations where they work. In this paper, I will discuss the behavior in an organization for which I was employed with for two years, which was not a well-organized organization.
The study of Organizational Behavior has included an in-depth look at corporate culture to gain an understanding of the diverse variables, namely people. OB, as defined in the text, is the study of individuals and groups in organizations (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2005, p. 3). This field of study is considered "interdisciplinary" because its focus extends to several disciplines: sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, and political science. Individual performance, organizational culture, motivation, hierarchy, change, and diversity are just a few elements that affect organizational success. Managing people within organizations is central to success. In examining corporate culture, many experts attribute its make-up to various factors.
There are a few factors that determine an individual’s well-being as essential as income. Income is paramount to live a sufficient lifestyle for self and those who are dependent on us. Income is a stable aspect of job to the workers, organizations and the society in general. Income has huge role to play in determining the behaviors, attitude and perceptions of individuals in an organization and this can be a major driver of organization behavior. Using utility theory, in particular the concepts of marginal utility and marginal rate of substitution the author analyzes how the job satisfaction and wages of family employees differ from those of regular employees. The objective is to infer that the family employees have more job satisfaction than regular employees while receiving lower wages. Income can cause both positive and negative affect work and family balance. The effects of income has not been widely discussed as one of the major contributor to organizational behavior topic and instead topics such as monetary incentives and pay-for-performance schemes have been documented exhaustively. Finally, some (e.g. Lea & Webley, 2006) have argued that the psychology of money is a visceral one, exhibiting similarities to the effects of other visceral influences on human behavior such as hunger and thirst and, as Loewenstein (1996) notes, visceral influences are often underestimated by individuals, partly because people tend to forget how important they were in
