According to Porter’s competitive forces model, exist five major forces, which managers should analyze, and strategies developed for the company to increase their competitive edge. They are the threat of entry of new competitors and of substitute products or services, the bargaining power of suppliers and customers (buyers), and the rivalry among existing firms in the industry.
In the case of Kudler Fine Foods, their strategy is increase loyalty by offering added high margin services, leveraging the company’s better understanding of customer purchase patterns and providing more efficient operations. The other strategies are increase profitability by cost reductions through supplier partnering programs and get new clients through social network marketing and word of mouth. Each department is working as a team to expand services through new customer focused programs, better information management, building targeted awareness and increasing behind the scenes efficiency. Those actions will increase revenue and reduce costs.
Historically, the company tracked information such as dollar value and profit margin per transaction, dollar sales, and profit levels by day and dollar sales and profits margin per item. However,

Kudler needs additional market research in the control, monitoring, feedback to evaluate the plan. The marketing strategy will prove success if the company finds new ways for consumers to think of Kudler first when it comes to gourmet and fine foods. Kudler’s products have to stand apart from its competitors to appeal to people. The right price, placement and promotions for the gourmet grocery store will give the stores an advantage over its competition.
Kudler Fine Foods currently has three locations-La Jolla, Del Mar, and Encinitas-throughout San Diego, with a fourth location possibly in the company’s near future. The company maintains several systems including strategic plan, legal, finance and accounting, sales and marketing, human resources, and operations.
