Pie Chart
Data Visualization for Businesses
A picture is worth a thousand words. The ability to graphically represent your business data gives you the power to make informed business decisions quickly. (Microsoft.com, 2002) This representation must be visually appealing and easy to understand. By keeping it simple, it allows the broadest number of users to interpret the data, gain insights as to its meaning and facilitate communication on the data ultimately to solve the company¡¦s problem. Data visualization is the use of interactive, sensory representations, typically visual, of abstract data to reinforce cognition. (Wikipedia.org, 2005) That in itself is a method or technique of decision-making. To further break it down, the most

In Figure 1 is the method used to create a pie chart and an example of one complete.
Figure 1
Problem: A pizza parlor owner polled their patrons on what music they would like to listen to while waiting in line and eating in his establishment. He would like to have the radio playing and needs to know what music genre would be conducive to sales and preferred by his patrons. Here are his findings.
Sample size: 100 customers
Rap: 50 Alternative: 25 Rock and Roll: 13 Country: 10 Classical: 2
50 „i 100 like Rap = 50%
Then for drawing a proportionate pie chart:
Percent „i 100 x 360 degrees = the # of degrees
**Circle = 360„a
¡K Therefore Rap will occupy 180„a of the circle
1. Draw a circle with your protractor or stencil
2. Starting from the 12 o¡¦clock position on the circle, measure an angle of 180 degrees with your protractor. The rap pie should make up half the circle. Mark off the radius with the ruler.
3. Repeat that process with each remaining pie and drawing in their radius according to their percentage of 360 degrees.
The pie chart in Figure 1 quickly tells you that the majority of the patrons like rap best, and the remaining students prefer alternative, then rock and roll, then country and ending with classical music. Simply and quickly we are able to see that the majority of the restaurants¡¦ patrons prefer rap music. Pie charts work well when the values of

Data is a group of information that are used for various purposes like analysis, evaluations and to arrive at certain results or conclusions. Data reporting is a process where data is extracted form a source or many sources and then converted into a format that can be used for a purpose.
Part 1 – Complete the following chart using information from the lesson. Print the chart.
11. For each of the following, indicate whether you would use a pie, line, or bar chart, and why.
11. Make up a scatter diagram with 10 dots for each of the following situations:
1. The 4 corners of the heart (1 point each corner) and draw the outline of the heart (0.5 point).
Still I was a bit lost, I went on and to have another reading to what was I supposed to do in the assignment, I decide to use the example of finding the circle area, a copied and pasted, but it did not work, I only got a syntax error, I keep playing with it and decide to use the forum
Figure 1. There need to be another box indicating how you get from 60 to 52 and finally to 39 participants.
This will equal six and the 25 will be multiplied by it. Your results will then be converted from degrees to radians and then multiplied by pi and then simplified for a smaller results which gives the numbers: 5 pi divided by 6 =0.27
The circle graph, also known as a pie chart or graph, was introduced after the line graph. The example in the book was someone keeping track and showing how they spend their day. This is a good example of how to get the students involved. They could easily keep a schedule of their day and make a circle graph. That sounds like a great extra credit project to me.
The music you listen to comes in many forms of music. Like pop (aka popular music) hip-hop, rap, r&b, country. You might think they have nothing in common with each other but they do, they come in many ranges, many different sounds, and some of them have a rich history. On the following chart, circle the number of the items that you marked above. After you finish, count the numbers circled on each line, counting across. Which category did you score highest? Write the three highest categories in the following space:
Data comprises of factual information. Data are the facts from which information is derived. Data is not necessarily informative on its own but needs to be structured, interpreted, analysed and contextualised. Once data undergoes this process, it transforms in to information. Information should be accessible and understood by the reader without needing to be interpreted or manipulated in any way.
