Global warming is the recent and ongoing rise of temperature on a global scale. Over the past century, the Earth's average temperature has risen 1.4°F (Carlowicz, 2010). Global warming is the effect of an excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses trap heat from escaping back into space to keep the Earth from freezing, this is called the Greenhouse Effect. An excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap too much heat, thus, causing Earth's temperature to rise.

Global warming refers to the rise in temperature in the Earth's atmosphere and oceans. Each year the temperature of the Earth increases gradually with an insignificant amount; however, with pollution produced by humans, the rate has increased even more compared to pre-industrial levels. According to NOAA, "Global surface temperature in 2016 was the warmest since official records began in 1880. It was the third year in a row to set a new heat record, and the fifth time the record has been broken since the start of the 21st century.” The earth is getting warmer every day and is starting to become a real problem, especially when it is approaching the threshold. The rise in temperature is so rapid that it could influence and change the composition of the world's population. In fact, the consequences of global warming are unnoticed in our daily lives because they are affecting us slowly. The rising average temperature of Earth is changing our lives for little things. There is much evidence that the Earth is warming as a result of the increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Perhaps the most notable signs of global warming are the natural catastrophes like hurricanes and winter storms. Giant Panda Bears (Aliuropoda melanoleuca) are by far the cutest mammal alive and can be the most stubborn when it deals with certain behaviors. Panda are considered to become extinct due to the fact that they are starving because bamboo is dying and they take a long time to germinate (National geographic 2016). In order to save the species from becoming extinct, some Giant Panda Bears are captured so they can mate with other Panda Bear to produce more offspring. One may think that the panda bears that are kept in captivity can easily mate with other panda bear but that is not the case. Giant Panda bears are particular when it comes to their partners and if one Giant Panda bear does not like the other bear, they will show no interest in mating

I read two articles that I found interesting on the science daily website. The first article is about how nutrient pollution is changing the sounds in the sea. The second was a video about a comeback for Pandas.

Panda bears are considered as a critically endangered species as their population have been constantly declining for years due to the various threats they face within their environment. Low population can lead to these panda bear facing a significant risk of extinction. According to a recent census taken in 2014, it has been reported that there were 1,864 giant pandas alive in the world.

The Giant Panda is a member of the bear family. It also is closely related to raccoons, weasels, and skunks. Nevertheless, it primarily resembles a bear, considering it has a similar size and shape. Its fur is thick, mainly white, with black spots on its shoulders, limbs, ears, and patches surrounding its eyes. It has a chubby figure, with short legs and a stubby tail. It grows to be from 5 to 6 feet long, adults weighing anywhere from around 200 to 300 pounds. Its lifespan is commonly 20 to 25 years, the longest recorded being 30.

The zoo, as an institution, has changed and evolved over thousands of years of human history. Society should be educated about the causes of global warming due to the way people are treating the environment.
