While attending UMD, I have held four different jobs. My main job is a summer internship through Bolton & Menk, Inc. I worked there this past summer and was re-hired for this upcoming summer. My job duties included data entry, construction observation, field measurements, and daily field reports for many multi million dollar road construction projects around the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Mystic Lake Hotel. I observed the installation of storm sewer pipes and service entrances in addition to doing field calculations to correct pipe grades. I also observed parking lot and roadway preparation and asphalt laydown. Concrete work was checked and tested for compliance with state regulations in addition to checking string lines for …show more content…
I got involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers my freshman year and now hold the officer position of Secretary. I also am part of ASCE’s concrete canoe team on campus. Both of these clubs have opened up opportunities for me, and I recently was able to attend a regional conference to help better the club on campus. I am learning networking skills with professionals in the industry as well as leadership skills. Being part of the concrete canoe team has shown me how the design process works in addition to how to actually build the canoe from start to finish. There is also a technical paper component with the canoe which has helped me to write technical lab papers in other classes. Aside from ASCE, I am part of UMDawgHouse where I hold the position of Co- President. Through this club I have been able to learn skills on marketing and game-day promotions with assistance from UMD Athletics. I am also an active member of multiple UMD intramural sports teams throughout the year. I captain a fall, winter, and spring co-ed volleyball team and also compete on a winter broomball team. Academically, I have been on the SCSE Dean’s list for 3 semesters in addition to being fully admitted into the Civil Engineering Department’s Upper Division.
My future aspiration is to work as a civil engineer with a focus on transportation, specifically designing roads and highways. I plan to take transportation-related
I felt anxious about attending RU. Now that I have been here a week I am feeling motivated. Living close to campus gives me the ability to be completely immersed in the college lifestle, therefore, allowing me to have the chance to join various clubs and the chance to use the many resources that will advance my academic career. Being able to join a club here at Rutgers will help me be able to feel like a Rutgers student. The amount of opportunities this school has is endless, and I plan on taking full advantage of such benefits.
I grew up on a farm about 3 hours north of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul. I grew up as the oldest of 9 children, making our house a very busy place. It is there that I attended school at Menahga Public Schools, about 15 miles from our home. I graduated with about 45 students in 2014. I attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College as a Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) student for my Junior and Senior Year, attaining an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts, also in May of 2014. In the Fall of 2014, I attended the University of North Dakota (UND), looking to attain my Bachelors of Science. I attended UND for three years, graduating this spring with my Bachelors of Science. During my life I have held a variety of jobs, ranging from farmhand to
I was born Bosnia-Herzegovina and I can fluently speak the language. Coming from this helps me understand tradition that much more. With that being said and how Fish Camp is, being apart of the program and tradition would be great. One of the best decision I had made when I came to Texas A&M was joining a Freshman Leadership Organization, more specifically FORME, Freshman Organizing and Running Mixed Events. Through my entire camp, they kept telling and emphasizing the importance of getting involved and it finally made sense after a month of being in FORME. The strong friendships and the amount of fun I have had throughout my first semester and start of second semester is almost unbelievable. I feel like it is important for me to lead the next
I am a junior majoring in computer science. I earned my Associate of Science at El Paso Community College in Fall 2015 and my high school diploma at TMECHS in Spring 2016. This is my first year at Texas Tech University. I am required to take this course, but I’m looking forward to learning how to respond to situations that aren’t so black and
My job at Mercy Health Saint Mary Campus was ironic. Most of the experiences that I acquired were different from what I have learned from FSU. At the college, I learned the basic computer hardware, software, and operating system. I took a class on how to repair computer by taking it apart and troubleshooting it with software. The other classes were networking, security, and windows server. I was surprised that desktop support technician at Mercy Health has a different process of how to do their jobs. I don't have all the permission to do everything myself. Most of the jobs were assigned to a specific team. The WAN team who is responsible for the network equipment such as the routers and switches. The LAN team job is to configure the servers.
There have been multiple experiences that I have had that would make me succeed at Penn State University. One experience is when I moved across the country. My freshman year I really struggled in high school. It was a big change and did not take it seriously enough. Then sophomore year came and I got a hang of it, but then I was hit with big news. My father tells me, in January, that we are moving to Scottsdale, Arizona In March. I was upset and shocked at first but then was really excited for this new experience. The worst part was leaving my mom, sisters, and grandparent’s all behind in New York. When I got there, I did not have any friends and was scarred about the change in school and the curriculum. After a while, I got the hang of it,
When I first came to CNU for my interview to get into CNU. They were talking about the leadership program asking me if I knew about it and I did. But I thought to myself why would this great program want me, yes I did same community service and was captain of my Field Hockey team. But I was always the one to support people the one someone went to for help in a class or emotion support because my friends thought I was good at reading people I didn’t believe that, though. Why would this program want me! is what I thought but my family convinced me to apply what is the downside if anything I could tell my family I told you so. Which know looking back I see how completely wrong I was, thinking I was not even going to get into college. When I got
My time at Michigan State University, so far, has been more than I could have hoped for. I’ve celebrated personal and academic victories. I’ve had the opportunity to attend every home football game with the Spartan Marching Band. Attended a victorious B1G Ten Championship game. Attended the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl and have more friends than any other time in my life. While sometimes it can be stressful to be a college student—managing due dates, social events, working, and maintaining focus away from Facebook and my phone—having a major I’m actually interested in, makes it all a lot easier. I have friends who, in my opinion, should not have the major they do. They hate all their classes, both pre-requisite and their actual major classes. To me, it seems a little ridiculous to continue spending money and time on an education in something you clearly have no interest in, not to mention planning for a career in the same field.
My palms were sweaty as I walked into the University of North Carolina Hospital (UNCH) for my first day. As I navigated through all of the patients and doctors I realized I was out of my element. I only knew how to get to two places: the gift shop, where I told to volunteer, and volunteer services, where I was told to check in. As I walked out of volunteer services a young woman holding a baby called out “Do you speak spanish?”. “Un poco,” I replied - referring to my school’s spanish classes that definitely had not prepared me for this moment. She began to explain how she was lost and that she didn’t know how to get to the neonatal ICU. In broken spanish, and on my first day, I managed to guide her back to volunteer services where a real translator took over.
Curiosity is what brings me to the University of Michigan. All the sweat and determination and hard work, I have put in all my life will pay off when I get into the school of my dreams. The countless of hours and stress I put myself in will pay off when my job is something I love. My drive is what distinguishes me from everyone else. I have one goal, to have a career I love doing. All along that has been my drive. The only thing is, my goal was too broad. This is because I personally believe it’s hard to make a decision now about what I want my life to be, when this is the time where were barely trying to figure ourselves out. So aside from my goal, my drive was to get good grades, to have the best attendance, to be the best in my class.
It was July 24, 2015 and I was attending a soar session for Missouri State University. When I was signing up for classes I notice that I was short a credit to reach 15 credit hours. I looked and looked for a class that I would be interested in. I found this class, I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this class when I was coming in. When the first day of school came around I was really eager to attend my Kin 127 class. After a week of this class I knew that I would enjoy it.
Since I was little I always knew going to college was the plan for me, but in all honesty I never thought of attending University of Saint Francis until about a year or 2 ago. When I did hear about Saint Francis from a student that attends there I knew that it was everything I wanted in a college. It is close enough to home and it has amazing programs for my career choice.
The University of Central Florida is known for its refreshingly diverse atmosphere. The multicultural and multinational aspect of the campus immediately drew me to the school. The high school I attended, like UCF, was notable for its fusion of students of various cultures and backgrounds. I found this highly effective. I was given the opportunity to interact with students of diverse backgrounds over the last 4 years.
Among the other universities and colleges, I’m seeking admissions at Saint Mary’s because of its tight-knit community, small class sizes, and location. When I visited, the atmosphere was similar to my high school which prides itself on a strong and supportive community. SMC’s community will encourage growth both spiritually and academically while giving necessary support. Separating itself from other colleges with their small class sizes allows for a better environment to learn and engage with teachers. Aside from being located just outside of the big city lights, I found Saint Mary’s campus to be exceptional. What stood out to me most while walking around campus, was the overwhelming energy and positivity that students displayed. Everyone
As of today I have had many involvements at FIU but without one special event I wouldn’t have been were I am today. Panther camp on August 17th through the 19th had been first involvement at FIU .It was a retreat-like experience that helped me find other ways of making friends that I had not known of. For example, having the availability to speak to whomever throughout the camp and not be shy or worried of judgment. I was able to leave knowing that my experience in Panther Camp about making friends could be around campus as well and in other places that I wish to create friends.
